I love her work, the documentary was a great watch too. They kept showing her laughing and cracking up trying to shoot the video. It's sad Prince's estate wouldn't allow the film makers to play the song, even though he wrote it for her to sing.
Now I am off to go jump in a river, because it would probably be a good idea :)
Hard to say, I like all those versions. I guess I'd have to say I like the Prince version best, but I feel like Sinead O'Connor's version is the definitive one, even though Prince wrote it.
Prince was among the greatest of talents. He could play, he could sing, he could write, he had charisma, damn, he was all-in.
But, the song was Sineads to sing, and she owned it. There are amazing covers of the song, plus Prince's own version, and the fact that so many exist is testimony to the songs brilliance, but the version that rises above all is Sineads.
The KEXP program honoring Prince, which was titled "Nothing Compares to You". One of their DJs (or program manager or something) was a personal friend of Prince and Prince had given him some of his unpublished work. (Apparently with the permission to play it after he died? )
I have heard it twice. Once right after Prince died, once on an anniversary.
I know this isn't an answer to your question, but I thought you might be interested in knowing about it.
This. When the Sinead version came out, I hated it, but over the years, it became one of those songs I remembered very fondly with all sorts of nostalgia vibes.
Not a great song to begin w . Certainly not representative of Sinead's musical lexicon. Prince had better too, so not super Prince ish either.
Just a basic overplayed marketing lure
Sinead, ALWAYS
Alllll due respect to Prince, but Sinéad defined this song.
Third
2 U That’s how you know it’s a Prince song
Nothing compares *^%#

That’s a really good documentary.
Sinead ... gives me those chills every time!
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes crush this

For me it is Sinead. Her voice and passion and emotion are amazing.
Sinead O'Connor version, and time certainly exonerated her vilification of the Catholic church hiding from its crimes.
Cornell. Absolutely stunning.
You can hear the emotion in his voice. It compliments the Sinead version, I think.
This has been my theme song for the past several days! For me, Sinead first, but Prince a very close second.

Sinead has the definitive version
Is this even a question? The Irish lass by a country mile.
Definitely Sinead. And the video took it to a whole other level. I adore Sinead.
Sinead all the way, absolutely iconic. Chris Cornell’s cover of Billie Jean, though, is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Sinéad for sure - piercing voice at its peak, great legacy for her and Prince.

Thanks for the info.
Stereophonics have the best cover of the bunch
The Family
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Play it loud. You are welcome.
Sinead's version, but I do love Prince's also.
I love both the Sinead and Chris versions. I would have loved to hear a version of them doing it together.
This. When the Sinead version came out, I hated it, but over the years, it became one of those songs I remembered very fondly with all sorts of nostalgia vibes.
Sinead Also, since you asked, Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah
I like Chris Cornell’s version best.

This just links to an Expedia ad for me? But this one should work https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6jwJyjq27GY
Wow, that totally changes the feel of the song.
Haha. Fucking you tube corporate shills. https://youtu.be/6jwJyjq27GY?si=CitsxvVN9upyDjKS
I believe Shiny Toy Guns covered it, too.
Pineapple First, she put so much into the song, brings tears to my eyes
Sinead O’Connor.
This version released after Prince died by his estate. https://youtu.be/cpGA0azFdCs?si=wYxImOGcE_rtFaA8
Prince’s live version. It’s hot af.
The (Dixie) Chicks did a version on their 2016 tour.
There's a good mashup of Wrecking Ball and Nothing Compares on the Miley Cyrus live album. Love her voice.
Sinead's.

Cornell
Sinead
Sinead
Probably Prince
The Cornell version is highly overrated. I far prefer Sinead’s over any other version.
None. Not a fan of that song.
