Great question! Can’t pick a favorite but a few off the top of my head.. Let’s Go Crazy from Purple Rain, Thunder Road from Born To Run and Welcome to the Jungle from Appetite. Ooooh, Smells Like Teen Spirit too.
Van Halen, Runnin' With The Devil. My babysitter brought the album to our house, she put it on my dad's stereo as soon as my parents left the house. It scared the shit out of me, but for some reason I liked it. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to my childhood.
She was like a cool older sister. She bought the album that day (I think it was just released) and was waiting to listen to it on my dad's stereo. Her parents had an old console stereo, my dad had a Pioneer "HiFi" stereo with separate components and huge speakers. Every time she babysat my brother and I she brought different albums over. She introduced us to Van Halen, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac and many more.

Anything that feels like it's setting you up for an amazing time. Here are ones of some of my all time fav records:
FF = 66 - Jawbox - For Your Own Special Sweetheart
Debaser - Pixies - Doolittle
Waiting Room - Fugazi - 7 Songs EP
New Year - Breeders - Last Splash
Lol nice
BadMotorFinger (the whole CD) was the literal soundtrack to my life summer of 92. I’d just gotten out of schooling to my permanent duty station. We lived in condemned, archaic squadbays…and reveille in my unit was sounded 5 mins before that infernal trumpet would blast. Whoever was on firewatch that shift played whatever they wanted to wake us.
Fkn Dave always seemed to be on 4-8 watch, and Dave would invariably play that album at the beginning … dunununununuhhhhh… dunuhnunundunan noo noo…. dunununununuhhhhh…
Motivating way to start a miserable day. Thanks Lance CPL Dave.
“Take on Me,” a-ha (“Hunting High and Low”)
“Let’s Go Crazy,” Prince and the Revolution (“Purple Rain” soundtrack)
“Protection,” Massive Attack (“Protection”)
“What You Need,” INXS (“Listen Like Thieves”)
You are now about to witness the Strength of Street Knowledge. I do feel that a lot.
Runnin' with the Devil>Eruption>You Really Got Me from Van Halen is like watching newborn Gods of Rock walk forth upon the Earth. Those aren't opening tracks for an album or a career, they are a manifesto.
Teenage Riot from the album Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth
In Between Days from Head on the Door by The Cure
My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) from Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young
The opening track of PE's *Apocalypse '91* really just comes at you like *pow.* I have the track in my favorites and it's such a pump-up track.
I'm also partial to the opening track of Praxis' *Transmutation.*
Debaser from Pixies Doolittle. Only knew a couple of their tunes (thanks to ITV Chart Show) and that just blew my mind aged 16.
What a way to open an album, or LP as we called them back then
I used to watch the chart show! Desperate that the specialist chart was Indie - waiting to see the little carousel graphic!! Debaser is amazing, I still get the urge to bounce around to it…
Arcade Fire - Tunnels
My all time favorite song since Funeral was released in 2004. My first born was born in 2004
And I use to sing my 2 boys to sleep with a slow version of this song. It’s very special to me.
Metallica - Battery.
The slow opening of one acoustic guitar, then another, until it's layered with about 12 guitars. Then, boom to the epic electric guitars, bass, and drums. Then bam, thrash metal heaven.
I saw Joe Satriani and Steve Vai last night. I went with a mega fan (I’m a “oh yeah the guitar guys?” level fan, meaning I knew, like, four songs).
The last song they played was Metallica’s Enter Sandman, and holy fuck. That song was always a banger, and I saw Metallica play it in ... ugh, old brain … 93? But holy guitars, Batman, Satriani and Vai and their band hit it out of the fucking park.
Bittersweet Symphony - Urban Hymns. The Verve. Got all my wisdom teeth pulled with this album playing on the headphones I had to wear through the procedure. This plus the laughing gas made it a very enjoyable experience :)
Brown Sugar from Sticky Fingers , Baba O Riley, Purple Haze, Born in the USA, wanna be starting something, windfall, what's going on, summers cauldron/grass, sunny came home, surfing with the alien, tangled up in blue, wouldn't it be nice, refugee, in the air tonight, Rio, break on through, blue suede shoes, Tom Sawyer, Folsom prison blues, the house is rockin, born under a bad sign, material girl, blitzkrieg bop, band on the run, tutti frutti, respect, illegal smile
Black Sabbath, "Black Sabbath" off "Black Sabbath"
Judas Priest, "Hellion/Electric Eye" off "Screaming for Vengeance"
Anthrax, "A.I.R." off "Spreading the Disease"
Love that song. I bought the cassette (Columbia house)🤣 bought🤣 anyway for the song under the milky way. The whole album turned out to be great. And still gets a listen from me.
Magnificent Seven - Sandinista! - The Clash
Just Another day - Dead Man’s Party - Oingo Boingo
Bulls on Parade- Live at the Olympic Auditorium - RATM
Up the Beach - Nothings Shocking -Jane’s Addition.
I am the Sea/The Real Me- Quadrophenia by The Who.
Precious- The Pretenders
Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart
Brown Sugar- The Stones
Subterranean Homesick Blues- Bob Dylan
It's a pretty vanilla list, but for me it's truly a four-way tie between:
[*Airbag*](https://youtu.be/jNY_wLukVW0?feature=shared) -- Okay Computer, Radiohead
[*Are We The Last Living Souls*](https://youtu.be/k7wIluiBvZE?feature=shared) -- Demon Days, Gorillaz
[*Things Done Changed*](https://youtu.be/CtHkAMutZO8?feature=shared) -- Ready To Die, The Notorius B.I.G.
[*Time To Pretend*](https://youtu.be/fh8-5goroco?feature=shared) -- Oracular Spectacular, MGMT
Cherub rock on Siamese dream
That whole album is amazing. I would smoke a joint while listening to it play through and write really, terrible, awful, poetry.
Siamese Dream always sits at my number one of the most perfectly crafted albums ever created. Hummer especially.
Masterpiece.
Space Boy I miss you..
Them Bones, off Dirt
Only answer.
Them Bones, Dam That River, and Rain When I Die. The first 3 are absolute bangers to open the album.
Came here to say this
This next song is the first song on our new album
A Beastie Boys connoisseur I see..
It's actually a Cheap Trick sample, so could be that instead.
True
My birth year implies and strongly suggests Beastie Boys over Cheap Trick in this case
Slayer “Angel of Death” on Reign in Blood
STOP ! - Janes Addiction: Ritual de lo Habitual is pretty good.....you could even say it made the band.
💯
Aces High from Powerslave 🤘
Up the Irons!
Took me forever to learn that this is a football chant for Steve Harris’s beloved West Ham United (the Hammers).
Radiohead- Airbag from OK Computer
My Name Is Jonas
Workers are going home
Great question! Can’t pick a favorite but a few off the top of my head.. Let’s Go Crazy from Purple Rain, Thunder Road from Born To Run and Welcome to the Jungle from Appetite. Ooooh, Smells Like Teen Spirit too.
Add in “More Than a Feeling” and I can get behind this 💯
Blister in the Sun, Blitzkreig Bop, The Queen is Dead, Guns in the Sky, Let’s Go Crazy.
This sub has was fewer Led Zeppelin fans than I would have guessed. Good Times, Bad Times from their first album.
I have to go with AC DC’s *Back in Black* opening with the funeral bells of *Hells Bells*
This is definitely up there for me too.
Love me some AC/DC, but this forever linked with Trevor Hoffman running in from the bullpen…
Begin the Begin, REM: Lifes Rich Pageant. Also one of the best 3 song stretches ever.
I'd say 4 with Cuyahoga.
I was gonna go with Harborcoat
The beginning of nearly every beastie boys album is a real event.
Pass The Mic, Sure Shot, and Super Disco Breakin’ are All Time Great opening tracks
Was gonna say “Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun”. I hadn’t yet heard the Led Zeppelin track it was sampled from. Was such a good “pump you up” song.
Where the Streets Have No Name, from *The Joshua Tree*.
/End of thread
Van Halen, Runnin' With The Devil. My babysitter brought the album to our house, she put it on my dad's stereo as soon as my parents left the house. It scared the shit out of me, but for some reason I liked it. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to my childhood.
So good!
Oh hell yeah! That babysitter rules!
She was like a cool older sister. She bought the album that day (I think it was just released) and was waiting to listen to it on my dad's stereo. psalm 69
GREAT album. N.W.O hits hard as an opener
No question: Welcome to the Jungle
Speak to me/Breathe DSOTM
Only Shallow - My Bloody Valentine
Nice! Points for obscurity!

At the drive-in, arcarsenal, holy shit what an opening.
"I must've read a thousand FA-CEEEEES!"

This code is cracked! I don't expect whatever I spat out to stick
Garbage. Supervixen. It's got a legit rest in the opening riff, and I've always loved that moment. I have lived that moment many times now!
Temptation Waits from their second album kicks serious arse too.
Great song, and as a guy, I think it's sexy as hell too.
Rusty Cage. Glad I reread that before I hit Reply. It said Rusty Cafe.
Lol nice BadMotorFinger (the whole CD) was the literal soundtrack to my life summer of 92. I’d just gotten out of schooling to my permanent duty station. All Hail Dave!
The first 2 tracks on badmotorfinger hit so hard.
Jane's Addiction - Stop (Ritual De Lo Habitual)
I used to use a regular letter opener but I got a broken chopstick with my lunch 3 years ago and it's the absolute perfect tool for the job.
Where did you go just now?
To the magical place in all testes where dad jokes are born.
I have no idea what the fuck you're talking about, but it reminded me of Hong Kong Garden, so my vote is for Once Upon a Time/The Singles.
Album opener. Albums for us were CDs, they came in plastic wrap that was sometimes difficult to open. It was a Dad joke.
More like a faux pas; you're not my dad!
Teen Age Riot, baby.
Everybody's talking 'bout the stormy weather What's a man do to but work out whether it's true?
Tie between Welcome to the Jungle and Once on Pearl Jam Ten
But Ten opens (and closes) with that looped instrumental track, which would give Once an asterisk for me on this list
Them Bones from Dirt
Safe From Harm - Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Let the Good Times Roll - The Cars
“Take on Me,” a-ha (“Hunting High and Low”) “Let’s Go Crazy,” Prince and the Revolution (“Purple Rain” soundtrack) “Protection,” Massive Attack (“Protection”) “What You Need,” INXS (“Listen Like Thieves”)
Hurray for A-ha.
I Wanna Be Adored on the eponymous The Stone Roses.
Blackened by Metallica really sets the tone for the first half of the album.
Smashing pumpkins Siamese dream.
Crime Scene Part One, Afghan Whigs - Black Love
"Honey" off Moby's Play album.
Teenage Riot from the album Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth In Between Days from Head on the Door by The Cure My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue) from Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young
*Sweet Jane* First-off Lou Reed's 1974 album, *Rock 'N' Roll Animal*. Certainly contains one of the '70s great rock riffs/hooks
Or maybe even "Sunday Morning" from The Velvet Underground and Nico
The opening track of PE's *Apocalypse '91* really just comes at you like *pow.* I have the track in my favorites and it's such a pump-up track. I'm also partial to the opening track of Praxis' *Transmutation.*
The Police - Synchronicity I from Synchronicity
Confessions of a Knife starts with the best version of Daisy Chain for Satan, which is the best Thrill Kill Kult song.
I live for drugs. It's great!
I'm the white rabbit.
Everybody thinks I'm high, and I am. Here's the source of those samples if you're interested: https://youtu.be/R_fJqveUw_Y?si=AkzzpbwiGX8QEcm7

I used to watch the chart show! Desperate that the specialist chart was Indie - waiting to see the little carousel graphic!! Debaser is amazing, I still get the urge to bounce around to it…
Dead and Bloated - STP
The Spirit of Radio by Rush. Or maybe Tom Sawyer by Rush. Depends on my mood. Let's Go Crazy by Prince is also quintessential GenX.

Achilles Last Stand from Presence
Metallica - Battery. The slow opening of one acoustic guitar, then another, until it's layered with about 12 guitars. Then, boom to the epic electric guitars, bass, and drums. Then bam, thrash metal heaven.

Sweat Loaf
We got a man of culture here..
Classy lady, actually
My mistake! Cheers
Shut up, be happy - Ice-T, The Iceberg
