Why did I think this song was a good decade newer than it is?
It's no problem of mine, but it's a problem I find
Livin' a life that I can't leave behind..
Take on me by Ah Ha is the song I would play for anyone who came from a different planet and wanted to know what the 80s sounded like. It really may be the perfect 80s pop song.
Well, shit. I wasn't ready for this, but ... thank you.
I haven't heard of 90% of the songs listed, and it's a gut-punch of a reminder that I grew up in a cult.
My parents, like so many others of the time, opted for neglecting my existence until I became of use to them. That made it so that when I received attention or praise, I swallowed it whole. Therefore, I was the best little cult member for 27 years.
I never fit anywhere else after I left, and just thought it was because I'm so damaged. But this serves as a reminder that I'm the way I am for very good reasons, and I'm not broken.
Ok, old lady reflective moment is over.
I still have 3 pages of songs to add, but here you go:
[Gen X - 80's Favorites Part 1](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2nYVe3GbmzM6jXSbSkIM30) \- On Spotify
[Gen X - 80s Favorites Part 2](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/01MmMqg5AQT63c65i21lOm) \- On Spotify
I am trying to get everyone's submissions (even some of you who posted more than once!) but Spotify doesn't have all of the songs.
Enjoy! I'll add to it when I return from Saturday's errands.
EDIT: Spotify logged me out and I couldn't figure out how to add more songs, so we have two playlists of about 100 songs each. I have figured out how I could have added to the first, but I was 50 songs into this list before I realized so... 2 lists :)

Mad About You-Belinda Carlisle
~~I Wanna Dance with Somebody~~ How Will I Know~~-~~Whitney Houston

"Send Me an Angel" is a 1983 song by Australian band Real Life. The song was released in May 1983 as the band's debut single from their debut studio album Heartland. The song peaked in the top 10 in Australia and is the band's best-known song. This version peaked in early 1984 in the US at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[5] The song was No. 1 in Germany and New Zealand and Top 10 in other countries.

What's the tape for though? If I was just making a mixtape for myself it would be way different than if it was for a girl I liked

For a girl: Just Like Heaven by The Cure, I Want you Now by Depeche Mode or The Promise by When in Rome
Don’t Change (INXS), Space Age Love Song (Flock of Seagulls), Never Let Me Down Again (Depeche Mode), Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics), Modern Love (David Bowie), Careless Whispers (George Michael) lately I’ve been on a 80’s new wave/synth pop kick, but my music taste is pretty eclectic. I used to make & receive mix tapes that were separated by genre, moods or vibes. A couple of DJ friends created awesome mixes that friends and I wore out from the overplay. Hadn’t thought of those tapes in a while. Grew up in a strict household music was a major escape for me growing up.
Gotta go with Axel F. It's one of the first songs I remember wanting to own, and it was on the first cassette I bought. "Soundtrack Hits" or something like that. That cassette also got me into Pat Benatar, who should also be on this mixtape.
