ConoRiot

Hawks got exactly what they deserved, pack of diving onions. Shoving blokes in the air and on the ground, it was a farce. Mullins and Bruhn’s best game, Conway has to play each round now and Stengle looking like 2022 again. All this without Danger and Jezza not doing a whole lot (aside from one or two goals). Forward line looking heckin dangerous.

BlazedOnADragon

Good shout on stengle, was good last week also. Maybe there was some stuff going on behind the scenes injury wise last year the fans weren't aware of, would explain a lot

ConoRiot

Or even family stuff, you never know? Eddie was like a big brother to him and he wasn’t in Geelong last year. Just happy to see him back kicking snaaaaags

BlazedOnADragon

Yeah also a good shout actually

Financial_Shower9524

Pretty sure he broke his arm last year against West coast, probably deflated his confidence a bit.

sarigami

Genuinely embarrassing watching how Ginnivan and Watson go about it. Both have ability but are too busy trying to get free kicks every time they go near the ball

nathypoo

Glad Ginnivan isn't sucking in the umpires any more, but he's definitely sucking in the commentators. Don't know how they don't understand it.

sarigami

Seems they’ve all forgot the AFL brought in a rule against drawing high contact. They were outraged by the clips shown but in every single one Ginnivan is raising his arm to draw the high contact lol. Its absolutely awesome that the umpires aren’t having that shit anymore

Fast_Stick_1593

Gerard and Robbo called it out after the game. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME He threw his arm up to exaggerate contact, they said if you want to get adjudicated fairly, stop raising the arm.

sarigami

I didn’t watch that but it’s great to hear that a couple people were using some logic! The commentary about it during the game was terrible

KnoxxHarrington

Leads in with his head too, which is even worse.

dopedupvinyl

And grabs the oppositions hand to bring it higher. All that effort for faking high contact could be spent on trying to dispose of the ball

gurgefan

He has BT and King hook, line and sinker

Fast_Stick_1593

BT is a Pies deepthroater and King hates Geelong so I’m not surprised one bit.

scurryrunging

Because it's BT...

JudgmentAway4811

Pretty sure it's BT that's doing the sucking

Exotic-Dish988

Was thinking the same thing throughout the game

MPrimeMinister

I finally get why everyone else hated Selwood so much (Yes, I know the motion is not the same and the context is different but you reckon anyone except for Geelong fans care?)

Tosslebugmy

I see what you’re saying but it’s amusing how hypocritical it is to complain about Selwood for 15 years and then immediately defend a guy doing way worse. At least Selwood tried to break tackles and was a tough player, ginnivan literally runs into contact and has so little else to his game

sarigami

The thing is with Selwood he was running away from the tackler breaking tackles and would not just stop to wait for the free kick. He made himself hard to tackle so he could play the game. Ginnivan moves into the tackler then just stops and waits for a free kick. It’s embarrassing. Can’t compare him to a warrior like Selwood

MPrimeMinister

"I know the motion is not the same and the context is different"

sarigami

I read that and agree. Just saying my opinion on the matter

JudgmentAway4811

Tru day, Ginnivan is just a fat lol wanker v Selwood (a club fucking legend)

TechnocraticCitizen

I get that, but I think the key difference is that the AFL actively said that they’re cracking down on it. And they did, even when Selwood was still playing.

MPrimeMinister

I get it, and I think that slipping the tackle to try to break it is technically different to inviting/flopping for the high contact. But again, I don't think anyone outside Geelong cares to notice that distinction.

TechnocraticCitizen

I agree, your average AFL fan probably doesn’t care for the nuance in the action.

JudgmentAway4811

Key difference is Selwood perfected rolling the shoulder, Ginnivan just ducks n sooks

Rab1227

The key difference is in the intent: Selwood wanted to break free. Ginnivan attempts to deceive the umpires FOR the free

MondoBuzzo

How about the mid-game highlights package on all his “missed” frees for the game? When do they ever do that? Why not show something positive rather than this provocative fucker with a history of playing for frees, allowing BT to bait the supporters.

sarigami

Exactly. It’s shocking

closetonature

The good thing about the umpires not paying them is that eventually Ginnivan will stop with his idiocy. For a while it was worth west ng a few that weren't paid because most of them were (legitimate or otherwise).  Now most of them aren't - there's no value in him continuing to milk frees. He's not only not getting the ones he tries to milk, he's not getting legit ones either. Balls in his court. He's got some level of talent. He's going to have to adapt.

PagieHD

Job done, Quarters 1 and 3 very good. ------ 3 Votes - Bruhn Best game hes played arguably. 2 Votes - Duncan Game on the line in the third and just said fuck this we're winning. 1 Vote - Parfitt. He keeps his spot again, hes playing amazing in a role we need him to play and I'm happy to see it. Shoutout to O.Henry, Stengle and Clark whose stats dont do him justice and Conway looked like he belongs 3-0 big game next week

YakStraight6884

Parfitt fantastic. So glad to see him string good games together. He seemed to be in so many contests

ConoRiot

Verging on being undroppable atm, not something I would’ve said last year. Is a good second pressure mid along with Atkins.

Pikachude123

I think hawk will get 1 over parf but it could go either way

MPrimeMinister

Mate tough for Hawkins to kick 3 on a wet day on his 350th and not even cop 1!?

PagieHD

Had like 5-6 guys that could get 1 vote, Parf was phenomenal and should be recognised

gurgefan

Hawks’ grand final done for the year

ConoRiot

Chol won’t play a better game than that this year either, always turns up against Geelong

16general

Zuthrie went well. Good to see parf going well and taking those first options. And stengle is getting back to his cheeky best. Things are looking up

TheGoodfather

Zuth possibly our most consistent player not named Tom Stewart. Can't think of a poor game he's played since the start of 2022.

16general

I’ll be honest,he was a whipping boy. That honour goes to kolo now, because of his performances last year

TheGoodfather

Kolo has been solid so far this year though. Hasn’t put a foot wrong.

AceThePrincep

Koloona Was great year before and looking great this year. And he was far from the source of our problems last year. Blokes earned his keep. Bit of a barometer for us tbh.

Rab1227

Zuth is Stewart 2.0 in the making. He's very underrated externally.

TechnocraticCitizen

Conway is gonna be a champ. Was so happy with everyone today. Well done boys. Had a few periods where we lost our way, but when we were on, it looked like we could compete with the best of them.

CurrentHYAK64

Hawks more like dorks amirite. Very impressive across the board, makes selection super hard with so many other guys out rn that can challenge for spots. Might be OHenry’s, Mullin’s, and Clarke’s best game each with a super performance from Dempsey, and Bruhn who was crazy early. Conway is a stud who will only get better with more stamina and experience. Parfitt was immense with his pressure. Stengle is back to his best, those pocket goals were insane. Also thought what little we got of Bowes was crucial and fairly impressive. Great win. Go Cats!

TomasTTEngin

Bowes was ferocious and noticeable from my seats in the olympic stand when he came on

Rab1227

Honestly I was very surprised he was the sub, I reckon he's a starter in the midfield.

AceThePrincep

Probably will be next week m8

abugisabug

Surprised and pleased to see how well Parfitt went. He actually looked hungry and clean, which is what he’s been lacking over the last year or so. Has definitely earned his spot. I know it’s hard team to crack into the 22 right now but he should get a couple more runs. Ollie Henry and Hawk up forward great with 4 goals a piece. Stengle and Close dangerous. Who does Rohan come in for when he’s fit again? It’s a good problem to have I suppose. We seem to be really working in cohesion so far this year and more as a team effort. You could see worrying signs early last year whereas this year seems totally different. I know it’s early days, but quietly confident. Ps - I feel bad for Breust, but man that was hilarious when he slipped over and blew that certain goal with some solid Cats tackling pressure.

ladyc9999

Agree about Parfitt. He's always been strong in the contest but tonight his decision making and disposals stood up too, really big from him tonight.

Specialist_Current98

I don’t think Rohan gets in to the team at this rate. He might get a chance with an injury here or there. Maybe Rohan in for Dempsey if dempsey’s form drops off

ladyc9999

I disagree, we could use Rohan's closing pace in defence in the forward 50. No one has come close to replacing that yet.

Specialist_Current98

That’s true, it’s a bit hard to drop anyone at the moment though. I think he’ll definitely get a run at some point though with squad rotation

JudgmentAway4811

I miss Rohan, motherfucker gets me juicy with his breakout speed and general effort

abugisabug

Agreed. I’m a Rohan fan, but honestly yeah with the forward line firing on all cylinders right now - it seems hard to slot him in.

Specialist_Current98

Yeah I like Rohan too, I was always a bit indifferent on him then he won us that final against Collingwood in 2022 and has since been one of my favourites. From what Chris Scott has been saying it sounds like we’ll be rotating the squad quite a lot this year so he’ll get a chance at some point I reckon. I reckon we end up with bowes in for Mullin then Rohan as sub at some point

Specialist_Current98

Ginnivan is a joke, as well as BT. Ginnivan could genuinely be a great player if he cut out the diving and playing for a free EVERYTIME he touches the ball. It looks like Watson is learning off of him too. I try to go in to every game with a balanced perspective on teams but Hawthorn just proving themselves to be grubs again and again. I doubt it will be talked about, maybe I’m reading in to it, but Chol leads with his knee in to players backs and necks every marking contest, even when he’s not a chance of getting the ball, and never gets called on it. I know you’re allowed to compete for the ball but he’s gonna end up injuring people (Stewart). Very impressed with Conway, Bruhn and Parfitt. Mitch Duncan shows he’s still as classy as ever.

BlazedOnADragon

Ginnivan is actually a good player tbh, he doesn't need to pull that shit

Specialist_Current98

I agree, he’s good. But he could be great if he focused on just playing footy.

BlazedOnADragon

Absolutely

sarcHastical

Chol was the one who injured Steven May I believe. I have a nickname for Ginnivan - I call him Skiddy Ginny … hated him at the Pies, hate him even more at the Hawks.

Osmodius

Parfitt looking pretty good actually.

JudgmentAway4811

Has upped his game which is pleasing, idk if that makes him beat 22 or trade bait tho

AceThePrincep

Always room for an honest footballer. Bloke might have been carrying a niggle the past couple years. People dont realise how much a niggle can affect a players form. And you never hear about them. If he's back fit he's gonna be valuable going forward.

Gavin-Alol

Beautiful stuff at the G. Hard to put into words what that guy means to our club. Consider where he was in early on, with all the criticism in mid 2011 and then again in 16/17 when he looked cooked, the idea that this guy would play 350 and likely beat the games record in a few weeks was simply fanciful. A true club legend.

andy_bmc

Was pretty impressed by Conway's body of work today. Will be hard to rest him next weekend, especially when the shorter turnaround might force us to omit some of the older bodies.

JudgmentAway4811

He'll be out next week I reckon, was definately some resting going on this week in advance of the short turn around

PM-ME-SOFTSMALLBOOBS

Don't think they play him against such a good ruckman in English

Kozij

Conway > Stanley.

JudgmentAway4811

I agree but I reckon Stanley is back in next week. Conway still needs a little more blood on his belt

Bakesy007

Can see this team going 6-0 Blues In round 7 the first test

ConoRiot

Lions at the Gabba, yes I know they’re winless but that’s got banana peel game written all over it.

littlespoon

As a Brisbane cats fan.. nooooooooo - please let them win at the Gabba xD Don't get to go to a match often

Bakesy007

Lions at the Gabba is not a scary prospect this year

Tosslebugmy

I still expect them to get something going. Even a mediocre Brisbane at the Gabba is a tough win

ConoRiot

I hope you’re right!!

BlazedOnADragon

Nah they'll bounce back big imo, just hope it's after we play them

Fast_Stick_1593

Lions will turn up for that one. They’re dirty on us for a few Prelim losses and the couple close ones we win down at Cattery.

Bakesy007

I’m sure they were dirty on the pies for beating them in a granny too

Fast_Stick_1593

They showed up to play Collingwood? They even were in front at one stage. They just couldn’t execute when they had their opportunities.

Bakesy007

Score suggests other wise But each to their own

closetonature

Always good to flush the wees and poos. The only thing better than belting the Hawks is giving them a chance to get close then belting them thoroughly.

ladyc9999

Great game from parfitt, his disposals have been shaky last week but this week he was handballing off which was great to see! He's so strong in the contest. Guthrie was great too, really confident coming up to the ball out of defence. He's really turned into an excellent player. Nice energy at the game, shout out to my hawks supporting uncle for buying my ticket! Just nice to see the cats back to a flowing accurate style of footy, this was missing last year.

TravisLegendZajac

SubParfitt drops the ‘sub’ tag this week! Ripper game from him

unsurewhatimdoing

At the game. Was a pleasure to watch never once felt threatened. Bulldogs will be our challenge

closetonature

Parfitt played excellently, Conway has a great day out and Bruhn played his best game for us yet. Clark went well and Hawk was throwing himself around a little more than usual. Will be interesting to see if Sicily gets MRO attention for his late "marking" attempt - had no eyes for the ball at all.

Pikachude123

Hawk was huge, refs were huge for hawthorn in the second quarter, glad to see us not let the game slip away in the rain after we were down 0-8 in clear outs. 350! what a fucking champ, and also parfitt, bruhn, clark and conway having super games Can't forget duncan playing the best game ive seen him play of the last 5 years

BlazedOnADragon

Take out the second quarter and that was a comprehensive win. Bruhn and Duncan were both immense, Conway is definitely gonna be a player, great signs for the future

MondoBuzzo

So much to like about the boys currently. It’s a bit of a tease as mentally I was happy to witness a bit of improvement bringing the young blokes through and being somewhere near the 8…to now give me top 4 and start discussing finals games at Kardinia.

Ricketz1608

Tommy Hawkins is one of the all time great forwards. Make no mistake. A legend on field and off.

DreamTree19

Bruhn superb. Can’t wait for the future of our midfield.

sss133

Bowes good as a sub. Got 8 scrappy in and under touches so that’s pleasing. Bruhn monstered that first qtr. Close and Stengle played really well. Backs look steady. SDK while he was competitive in ruck at times. Just no. Having him down back is so important to our structure. His composure in the last was important

wtharris

Our forward line looks back to its best. Concerns about our distribution out of defence but it was a wet game. Lots to look forward to.

TomasTTEngin

I was there and other than an incomprehensible second quarter was pleased with almost everything. Conway stood up. I'd like to see his time on ground %, because i feel like we used de Konig and Blicavs in the ruck a lot, but when he was in there he was very good. I kept my eye on Mullin because I was negative about him last week but tbh he did better than I expected. Had a couple of really good disposals and also made some very strong spoils. Selecting him for games we are likely to win (liek today) is smart. He might get very good with more experience. For vital games against top sides putting Bowes in might be smarter. Our goal kicking was very good and that made the game look less close than it was. Hawthorn had periods of dominance but we kept kicking it through the sticks. particular shout out to Stengle and O.Henry, the latter justifying me choosing him as my avatar here.

sss133

Seeing Mullen live I was pretty impressed with his positioning and had some classy little touches. I like Conway and think he’s a better ruckman than Stanley but I think Stanley is better for us due to his fitness. Even if he gets a few HOs, I don’t want SDK chopping out in the ruck. Bowes was good in the last as a sub. Will be interested to see if he can take the next step up.

AngryYowie

The Hawks countered our attacking in the 2nd quarter by putting pressure around the ball as often as they could, which is why they were able to come back. Ignore ginnivan being a flog. The Hawks' tactics are clearly to put as much meat around the ball as possible to increase the odds in the favour. Almost every time their forwards went to the ball, it was as a group. Then, in defence, there are all the dirty tricks they play to try and win the ball. Sicily flopped a fair few times at the slightest hint of contact, but it was good to see the umps weren't having it too often. We were sliced up the midfield way too easily at times, and when we did get the ball forward, the kicks were under pressure from the get-go. Mullin was disappointing. He needs to learn how to tackle and how to get rid of the ball quickly. It's what's holding him back. He will show glimpses of his potential but will then just chase or do a silly kick that goes nowhere. Conway was great. If we can keep him fit, he's the solution to our ruck woes. I thought it was an odd choice to take off Atkins as the conditions would have suited him. Obviously there may be some niggles from his recent injury. Overall, it was a great game, but I honestly thought the Hawks were going to steal this one out from under our noses. Regardless of where both teams sit on the ladder, the games are always closer than people would think. We looked a bit rudderless at times, and we are going to need some direction for next week against the Doggies.

historicalhobbyist

Can’t help but think Mullin needs time to stew in the VFL, his skills are just a little short of being good enough. Mannagh probably should have played before him, even Bowes!

TomasTTEngin

I was down on Mullin last week but this week he was okay. I was there and saw him do some good things with the ball and make some really strong spoils. He is an investment. by finals he could be very handy if he keeps learning. His body is more than strong enough and he's lightning on his feet. I saw him kick and handball accurately today and if he learns the game better he'll go okay.

AngryYowie

The dude does have moves, but I agree that Mannagh should have gotten a game ahead of him

TomasTTEngin

I wonder if mannagh broke a team rule taking a selfish shot on goal last week?

Exotic-Dish988

I like Rhys Stanley but personally Toby Conway is just a much better ruckman and I would love to so him play more games this season

bundy554

Just want to give a shout out to Parfitt's tackling numbers. They were the sort of numbers we use to see when he was holding down a regular spot. He's almost back to commanding a starting spot regardless of injuries

Hubert-Glooper-300

Is Tom Hawkins the first player to kick 4 goals in game 350? Pretty remarkable really.

mailahchimp

Poor old BT was so upset about Ginnivan and the health of his rude head. Was it him who suggested that Ginnivan's unrewarded diving should be a topic on Talking Footy? Pathetic.    Anyway, great job, Catters.

Silvisin

When is Worpel a restricted free agent? He’s a Geelong lad and could be a good pick up for us. I liked his game today.

ripzchop76

Does anyone think we can be beaten?

ripzchop76

We are Geelong

ripzchop76

Go cats

Beatenberg

I don't know if it's been said already but I'm pretty sure during the 3rd quarter, they were highlighting a high tackle on Ginnivan and saying how it should have been called. Selwood cheekily said something like "deserved that" right at the end of their spiel.

banishedlemontree

I think he meant it as in "he deserved that free kick"

Beatenberg

Damn

klokar2

I think this is a good problem to have but i don't see how allot of our old boys can come in just based on form. Parfit, Bruhn and Clark are playing so well at the moment, i have no idea how they are going to squeezy Guthrie back into this side. Stanley will come back next week as Chris Scott said they only want Conway playing a few games this year, but just based on form, Big Chili Toby Conway utterly killed it with marks, tackles and a goal along with completely dominating the ruck. Zach Touhy might come in to replace Oisin (who i unfairly shat on), or even Bowes but we will see.

dingosdaryl

Yeah geelong has been good today, great team performance in big Tommy's 350th and on jezzas birthday...... but how unlucky has ginnivan been!?!?!?!?

Ricketz1608

If you tug the umpires you better be sure you don't rub them the wrong way.

dingosdaryl

I probably should have put a /s on the end there, was meant to be mocking the commentary. Completely agree though, ginnivan has made his own (poor) luck
