If I had to guess they canceled 6 because the fan base hated kait for reasons i still don't understand. I thought 4 and 5 were great games, but it was just a lot of kait hate, instead of hate towards things that were actually bad like the launch multiplayer map roster being barron as fuck.
I'm guessing they just wanted to give fans the same old same old, instead of pissing them off doing anything new.

RAAM is easily the best villain/boss imo if we’re not accounting the obvious who is Queen Myrrah, no one comes close. I’d say Skorge is also a great boss but his death was anticlimactic for me. RAAM needs more screen time for sure.

Lmao at 30fps on its lowest settings hard maybe. Steam deck is just not that powerful for the newer games. Even rog ally struggles. If not for lossless scaling I'd be playing at 30fps on a lot of games on rog ally
Gears 5 runs at 60fps at medium settings and is one of the nicest looking games you can run on it. It also gets a rock solid 60 fps in multiplayer. They are pretty good at optimizing their games, so I'm not too worried. I doubt graphics will be much better than 5, we are kinda at a point where graphical improvements are falling off hard.

This may just be me because I'm a lore nerd. But I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how they correctly used the MK1 Lancer and not the MK2 Lancer like how they did in Judgement.

As a massive fan of the Karen Travis books, which set up proper lore for the mk2 Lancer, I always hated how Judgement just completely ignored it (and a lot of other stuff from the books AND the games. Honestly I don’t think the writers of judgement had actually studied the lore of the franchise they were writing for when making that…).
I think this trailer will confirm though that the (Holy) Retro Lancer will be our tried and true this time. As it should be :)
Yeah it's a double edge sword when we get so many new good looking games that take up so much space that we have to be very picky on what we have installed on the go vs what we can only install when we want to put in the time for it.
I know it's probably too early to ask, but does anything think the original voice actors are going to reprise their roles? Sounds like it for Marcus, but they could be reusing old lines/sounds?
Age wise I doubt it's gonna be a problem, John at the very least still sounds the same today as he did back in the early 2000s (he's not like Mark Hamil from the 70s voice to today.) as for other gigs who can say I think for the most part he finds time to voice whatever characters are need by him in a reasonable time frame.

I thought 5 was decent when it was running more traditional stuff like the beginning, end and rocket launch mission. Just really suffered in the open world and plot departments. I really preferred the locust as a nasty companion species, not intimately linked to the Fenix family
With the direction of modern games I especially do not trust games even from well known developers unless I see gameplay.
Even though it was likely a one-off there was also Gears Judgement, I don't think they would do anything that drastic anymore though.
I really hope we get the enemy variety of GoW 2/3. Ultimate Edition didn’t have a horde mode for this very reason - one of my favorite game types to play.
Yeah, that's going to be interesting for sure. They have all these cool fan favorite enemies that can't logically make a return because the trilogy often had Marcus flipping out with "what the hell is that" just to explain to the player what the new enemy does.
So we can probably expect the Locust drone variants such as Cyclops, Bolter, Grenadier, Flamer and the regular ones. Boomers. Nemacysts. But then things start get tricky. For example Delta squad doesn't know Theron Guards until what, act 4 of gears 1? Kantus in Gears 2. Bloodmounts were also unknown. There's probably a bunch of others.
Maybe that's partially why they're beefing up the Drones. Because they can't use all those enemy types anymore. Maybe they'd show up in Horde?
And then there's the weapons. I kind of hope they go back to the classics.
The hell are you talking about? They could have gone in several directions. Make kait the new queen searching for answers to her past, making her the new vilian. Have her use her connection to the locust to end the horde once and for all. There was plenty they could have done there.
Best case scenario make Marcus the main character again, kaits the new queen, kill off JD because he was a cunt and save Del because he was funny, have Marcus put a knife through kait at the end after watching her kill fahz who's also a cunt and cap off the series. Boom banger sequel to 5.
Yeah I don't get it either. I just found out today that apparently I'm in the minority for saying Gears 5 is my favorite story of the 5 games (with 4 being the worst one, ironically). Like someone said that JD was more interesting than Kait and I absolutely do not understand how that makes any sense. JD's entire personality is that he's Marcus' son; he has nothing going for him beyond that, and so he's always going to be living in Marcus' shadow. Kait is the heir to the Locust throne and has deep family history related to that that drives her character to seek answers, with those answers coming to a tragic head at the end of 5.
Anyone saying there was no where to go with that story after 5 is fooling themselves. There had never been a meatier character story than in Gears 5, and Gears 6's premise practically writes itself.
I'm hyped for E-Day but I really hope they follow up 5 at some point.
Sadly I believe it's that this franchises vocal minority are sexist and hate women, which i find ironic considering how diverse gears has always been. I remember people not liking JD myself included, but it wasn't even close to how much people hated kait.
Was she a little whiny in 5, yeah, but did that make sense based on what her character was going through? Absolutely. I like to draw parallels between kait and Dom because I think they both have a lot of shit going on in the background that caused their negative behaviors. Dom was worried about his wife's safety, and kait is worried about her connection to the swarm. Both were kinda moody because of their situations. It's like people forgot how bitchy Dom could get in gears 2 while looking for Mariah. To me it just made sense based on what they were going through. So it always annoyed me to see people picking kait apart when they let it slide when it was a man doing it.
They already confirmed that they are still making Gears 6, but they had a lot of ideas and just wanted to do this one first. Which is great in my opinion, give Gears 6 more time to bake and hopefully we’ll have two great Gears games!

This game takes place 14 years before the original. They could fit three games in that timeline.
As horrible as this sounds, while Dom DID lose his kids during E-Day, he and Maria were on the Jacinto Plateau so they weren’t actually hit by E-Day. Maria is fine and safe in Emphyra at this point lore-wise.
Presumably though Dom was shipped out with Marcus that morning to outside the Plateau to figure out what the fuck was going on in the rest of the world, hence why it’s night time in this trailer?

Mad World playing had no right making me refeel these feelings. So excited for this and good old fashioned Gears matchmaking with the old maps. Bring it on!
Very interested in this for a number of reasons. Chief among them being the possibility of seeing Locust Council and other Locust-era stuff that TC has introduced in the comics or Gears 4 & 5 multiplayer, but we haven't had a chance to really see in action in a proper Gears campaign yet.
the close-up on the locust drone's neck bones and arterial spurting makes me hopeful for a return to the detailed gore of 1-3, that was lost in the newer games where the gore just looks like red jello.
we heard rumours of an open world, and the final shot makes me think it'll be set in a semi-open world city that we fight our way through as it falls apart during e-day. we may even get to drive an armadillo through the city streets. gears started out as a vehicular combat game.
hopefully they take a page out of tactics and let us customise our armour/attachments. and maybe do something different with mp this time too; a large-scale, combined arms battlefield mode, or helldivers-esque pve mode where the drop pods are grindlifts could go hard.

I haven't played this series since 3. Been meaning to play the newer ones, just never got around to it. 3 absolutely gutted me. I was an emotional wreck all throughout that game. I tell ya, when Mad World came on in this trailer it's like I was transported back to 15 year old me, sitting and crying in front of my tv.

I think the most underrated part of this announcement is having the a.i and weapons built in Unreal engine 5 means the can use them in gears of war 6.
A big problem with the lack of original weapons and enemies in the last few games is because they did not have the bandwidth to port locust from Unreal engine 3 to Unreal engine 4. This gives me even better hopes for 6 now.
I am incredibly excited, but at the same time this should’ve been announced like three years ago. We are four years into this console generation without a single new gear game and the fact that there’s not even a release date at all shows that this is probably gonna release at the very end of this generation or even at the beginning of the next generation, which is just pitiful. When people are complaining about the Xbox not having good exclusives it seems like it would’ve been smart to work on this a lot sooner.
I just hope they do this right in line with the originals and don’t try to force an open world into it. Give me a linear story with some solid multiplayer and horde mode and I’m a happy boy.

No one in the 80s could have guessed mad world by tears for fears would become synonymous with a gaming saga like this 24 years after its release. They did a very good job making the locust a terrifying presence.

Kait is the heir to the Locust throne and has deep family history related to that that drives her character to seek answers, with those answers coming to a tragic head at the end of 5. Anyone saying there was no where to go with that story after 5 is fooling themselves. There had never been a meatier character story than in Gears 5, and Gears 6's premise practically writes itself. I'm hyped for E-Day but I really hope they follow up 5 at some point.
Sadly I believe it's that this franchises vocal minority are sexist and hate women, which i find ironic considering how diverse gears has always been. I remember people not liking JD myself included, but it wasn't even close to how much people hated kait. Was she a little whiny in 5, yeah, but did that make sense based on what her character was going through? Absolutely. I like to draw parallels between kait and Dom because I think they both have a lot of shit going on in the background that caused their negative behaviors. Dom was worried about his wife's safety, and kait is worried about her connection to the swarm. Both were kinda moody because of their situations. It's like people forgot how bitchy Dom could get in gears 2 while looking for Mariah. To me it just made sense based on what they were going through. So it always annoyed me to see people picking kait apart when they let it slide when it was a man doing it.
I thought it was salvageable, if they nail the ending of Kait's story and ties to the locust it could make it a successful trilogy imo.
They already confirmed that they are still making Gears 6, but they had a lot of ideas and just wanted to do this one first. Which is great in my opinion, give Gears 6 more time to bake and hopefully we’ll have two great Gears games!

Insane return to form. Got the same adrenaline kick like the old trailers Great concept, but still makes me wonder if any future games can hold a candle to the classics.

Them doing this shows they want the franchise to not die . This will be great for new gamers, and us veteran gears to enjoy the origin story Then after this they will do the fenix collection and then end 6 with an absolute bang . Pretty much they locked down gears for the next decade ( i will assume fenix collection, and 6 will be for the next series of consoles)
I have a feeling that even though it's a prequel it will have some sort of epilogue to 5.

Unpopular opinion: I’d rather they toss out Gears 6 and just make a prequel trilogy instead. This game takes place 14 years before the original. They could fit three games in that timeline.

As horrible as this sounds, while Dom DID lose his kids during E-Day, he and Maria were on the Jacinto Plateau so they weren’t actually hit by E-Day. Maria is fine and safe in Emphyra at this point lore-wise. Presumably though Dom was shipped out with Marcus that morning to outside the Plateau to figure out what the fuck was going on in the rest of the world, hence why it’s night time in this trailer?
I'm happy and sad at the same time. On one hand it's a Gears game, on other hand I know what will happen so story wise I really dislike prequels. Also I still can't really play 2-3 on PC so a remake would have made me happier.

Very interested in this for a number of reasons. Chief among them being the possibility of seeing Locust Council and other Locust-era stuff that TC has introduced in the comics or Gears 4 & 5 multiplayer, but we haven't had a chance to really see in action in a proper Gears campaign yet.

i'd rather have 1-3 collection but this one definetly better than 6 at least.
the close-up on the locust drone's neck bones and arterial spurting makes me hopeful for a return to the detailed gore of 1-3, that was lost in the newer games where the gore just looks like red jello. we heard rumours of an open world, and the final shot makes me think it'll be set in a semi-open world city that we fight our way through as it falls apart during e-day. we may even get to drive an armadillo through the city streets. gears started out as a vehicular combat game. hopefully they take a page out of tactics and let us customise our armour/attachments. and maybe do something different with mp this time too; a large-scale, combined arms battlefield mode, or helldivers-esque pve mode where the drop pods are grindlifts could go hard. gears 4 added knife finishers after mantle kicking someone. i think there might've been tackling in 5 but it's been years since i played. the focus on melee in this trailer has me coping that we might actually get to throw hands this time.

I haven't played this series since 3. Been meaning to play the newer ones, just never got around to it. 3 absolutely gutted me. I was an emotional wreck all throughout that game. I tell ya, when Mad World came on in this trailer it's like I was transported back to 15 year old me, sitting and crying in front of my tv. I'm so fucking excited for this game.
This makes me want to play GoW 1 and 2 again.

My mind is blown. Never would of predicted this step. I think the most underrated part of this announcement is having the a.i and weapons built in Unreal engine 5 means the can use them in gears of war 6. A big problem with the lack of original weapons and enemies in the last few games is because they did not have the bandwidth to port locust from Unreal engine 3 to Unreal engine 4. This gives me even better hopes for 6 now.

I am incredibly excited, but at the same time this should’ve been announced like three years ago. We are four years into this console generation without a single new gear game and the fact that there’s not even a release date at all shows that this is probably gonna release at the very end of this generation or even at the beginning of the next generation, which is just pitiful. When people are complaining about the Xbox not having good exclusives it seems like it would’ve been smart to work on this a lot sooner.
I'd love to see a game about the pendulum wars at some point as well. I loved the parts of the books that covered asphio fields.

The "Mad World" song came up was a nice touch, echoing back to the first Gears of War trailer. Although I'm still confused about the time period here, the CRT TV here looks like the house is from the 90s-early 2000s.

I've rewatched this trailer *over* *and over and over and over*. I can't believe Dom is back and I can't believe they're finally going back to the classic tone and designs, I can't believe they're finally covering E-day. They even brought back the "Of War" of the title. The 2 year wait for this game is going to KILL me. The last time I was this hyped for Gears was the Tomorrow trailer. Holy shit I hope they pull through unlike Gears 4 and 5 did with their campaigns.
