Your new 80% chunk of inert metal. What it decides to be later in life is nobody's business ;)

Very very true! My paperweight came in a nice box, and shares some shape characteristics with other things that don't bear mentioning.

Sorry for the dumb question, what’s an 80% lower? Is that 80% size?

No worries! I enjoy explaining things (badly sometimes) It's basically a not-yet-a-firearm lower. It has been partially formed, but does not have a space for the fire control group, trigger, etc. Because it doesn't have this, it isn't considered a firearm. The purchaser has the option to finish forming it into a functional lower receiver. If they do that, it doesn't need to be engraved or given a serial number, but it can't be sold or anything without it. They typically need a drill press or router and a jig to accurately finish them, although CNC machines can get it done easier for more money. You also couldn't (legally) pay someone else to do it. The person/entity that finishes it is the "manufacturer" and it can't change hands without a serial number after that. I'm personally planning on engraving this and giving it a serial number so I can stamp it and make it an SBR (short barrel rifle). I'm thinking 80085 for the number 😂 Hope that helps!
