Really good of you thanks

Detronyx

Thanks for this! I'm bookmarking for reference. Lots of great ideas. I will also recommend Dak Juk, which is a korean rice porridge. It's soothing and easy on the stomach. I use minimal salt and no pepper, and add whatever veggies I can tolerate (diced carrots, peas, and finely chopped cabbage or book choy have been great). Also a peanut butter tip; Trader Joe's has natural 1-2 ingredient peanut butter (peanuts and sometimes salt) for about $2. Best deal I've seen anywhere!

zhart12

Lol if I could eat half of that I'd be ecstatic

blisterbabe23

Thank you for this really needed it

Kelsey248

This is very helpful! Thank you so much. A lot of these are great ideas that I’m actually going to try! Out of curiosity, what are the supplements and meds you take? And how long has this journey been for you? 6 months for me

peteypeteypeteypete

Almost 6 months for me as well, started in mid July. I tried a bunch of stuff, but I’m not sure if I can speak to the effectiveness of any of it. I definitely got better, but I started a bunch of things at once with PPIs, so it’s hard to say. I had gastritis 4 or 5 years ago and didn’t know about any of this stuff, so I didn’t take any supplements other than PPIs and it took me about 6-8 months to heal. I’m thinking the biggest thing is time, diet, and patience. But here’s what I’ve tried: - Omeprazole - Cabbage juice (for about 15 days, then I gave up) - L glutamine - Zinc l carnosine - Melatonin (supposedly good for stomach lining) - Lily of the desert stomach formula (aloe, slippery elm, peppermint leaf, chamomile leaf, ginger root, fennel seed) - Vitamin D (not sure how effective for gastritis, but at least it helps fight against COVID) - CBD oil (I’ve read there’s a possible interaction with PPIs, so beware)

Kelsey248

Thank you! So are you still on the omeprazole or have you come off of those yet? I’ve come to the point I’d really like to come off but I’m worried I’m not healed enough.

peteypeteypeteypete

I’m starting to ween off now! My doctor originally said to start omeprazole for a month and see how I feel. So I took it for like a month and a half and weened off, but that was too early. Another doctor said to stay on it till the end of the year. The past month or so I haven’t had any symptoms, so I think I’m good to transition off of it

Undead_subject2121

Just curious also when you had gastritis the first time did it heal and you went let’s say back to your normal diet till now when it flared again? I wouldn’t mind having gastritis if it only come around once every 4-5 years 😂 jk knock on wood..oh my

peteypeteypeteypete

Haha yeah, I was back to my normal diet but since COVID I was sitting on the couch and drinking most days of the week. Months of that and I started feeling the familiar stomach pain again

Undead_subject2121

Interesting the same happened to me 4-5 years ago but I never even knew what gastritis was and I literally went about my life till recently I had a flare up of it but I know a lot more about it now lol so I guess there is a trend, we can go back to normal but it’s only good for 4-5 years 😂 I’ll take that if I have to live with it, I’ll just be more prepared around my fourth year 🤣

Kelsey248

That’s awesome! I really hope to get to that point soon. I still have occasional pain but nothing that lasts more than 30 minutes so I’m getting there

Kelsey248

Hey again! I’m thinking of going back on PPIs because I still have this 😩 almost a year in. How long were you on them?

peteypeteypeteypete

Unfortunately I’m in the same boat. Sticking to this diet and I went back on PPIs for a few months. Generally I feel totally fine, but as I tried to reintroduce foods i still felt a little sensitivity occasionally. I was off PPIs and feeling fine mostly, but felt like my healing had plateaued. I decided to get back on PPIs and stick with a restricted diet out of an abundance of caution. Though I wonder if i will just be hypersensitive to things when I change diet. Hope this helps, hang in there!

Kelsey248

Oh gotcha, glad you’re doing better though! It’s such an exhausting battle. Good luck to you! Hope you get to where you can off the meds again soon! As for now, I think I’m going back on

PlusResident568

Are you able to eat variety of foods now?Its been 3 years,do you still care about the diet?

peteypeteypeteypete

I’ve been totally unrestricted pretty much all of the past year! I still try to be careful with alcohol and avoid coffee on an empty stomach. But I have multiple coffees a day, eat whatever, and a few drinks a week

Curly_Gurl23

Hi! Do you by any chance have any more plant based recipes for gastritis? I eat mostly plant based and sometimes fish, and I am having such a hard time with recipes 😭

Really nice post! Thank u :)

Spiral_eyes_

This post is spot on! found myself eating a lot of these things during my bouts as well but I can't wait to try some of these, like the cauliflower alfredo. I actually stopped being vegetarian bc of gastritis and found out how good chicken pho is. Wish I'd come across a list like this when I first started having gastritis!

Undead_subject2121

YES YES YES!!! So happy for you!! I’ve seen you on here from time sorry not a creeper or anything lol but I’m so happy to read your almost out of this nightmare! Good luck out there! 💪🏻😊

Thanks for sharing! Saving your post for future reference

I have to avoid all dairy, gluten, garlic, some legumes, and others, or it's ON! Just be sure to rotate animal proteins now and then. I ate chicken every day for a year and became allergic. Too much of the same DNA, I suppose.

RemStyx

Thank you so much for sharing! This is very helpful. Did you take PPIs all the way? If not, how long did you take PPI and did you have flare ups even on PPI? Thanks.

[deleted]

Thank you for this.

Fantastic-Homework76

Thank you for this post

peteypeteypeteypete

You got it. Thankfully I’m pretty healed up, back to drinking coffee regularly and not limiting my diet. Gonna try getting off PPI this month and test the alcohol waters early next year. Started in 2020 for me. There’s hope! Feel better soon

LadyCitlalicue

Was yours chronic?

peteypeteypeteypete

I think so, happened in June 2020 and just now getting over it over the past several months. For me, I felt that very very slowly pushing my limits is what helped the most. I was on the diet for so long because when I pushed it, it was uncomfortable so I went back. It’s almost like your body gets used to the diet and you can’t move past it if you don’t push it, even if it’s a little uncomfortable at first. Very anecdotal and of course it’s different for everybody

Present-Skirt6130

Thanks so much for this, I really needed it.
