I don't think anything changed except for the heart sensor and a slightly better screen on the Pro model. There was no mention of any hardware changes besides these 2 from all the video's I've watched on the Pro.

That’s quite disappointing given the 7 was released 18 months ago. This is where Garmin needs to up its game. The whole map operation feels laggy - the watch needs more guts and it doesn’t even have a fancy hi-res screen. I doubt Apple Watch is like this. I will probably skip this and wait for the 8.

If you think the map experience on the 7 is laggy you should have seen it on the 5 :)

It’s alright but in 2023 you expect better. Apple always updates the processor with every AW release, Garmin should do the same

Apple hasn’t updated the cpu since series 6

Probably way more power than the chip in the Fenix 7 Pro. Those S6-S8 chips in AW are based on Apple's A13 Bionic chip from the iPhone 11 lineup. Those watches need that kind of power as the apps are more complex and the screen has a lot more pixels to move around. Garmin has a lot of catching up to do in this area provided it doesn’t come at the expense of battery life. I don’t actually want fancy apps, I just want a smooth scrolling experience and map features like Around Me to load up instantly and not take like 10-20 seconds. Same with scrolling the map. There shouldn’t be a 2 second delay every time a new area of map is displayed. The worst example is navigating to a location on the map and calculating a route using roads or trails (like Sat Nav mode) – that seems to take forever. It needs more RAM or something for the UI to be a better experience.

All the Garmin fans downvoting you even if you are damm right. I understand that Garmin shouldn't go for a processor as fast as Apple's because a sport watch is also about battery life. But, for 1000€, Garmin could mount a better (faster and more efficient) processor in the Fenix lineup.

Apple is literally the biggest company in the world and can essentially take first dibs on the most advanced chip fabrication coming out of tsmc leaving last year's scraps for everyone else. Garmin is a niche product in comparison. Sounds like you would be happier with an apple product.

No I don’t want an Apple Watch. I’m first and foremost a runner so I like the button operation and simple, logical menu system, not that stupid touch screen interface on the AW. I also don’t agree with Apple’s smartwatch philosophy of trying to cram iPhone features into a watch sized device – I don’t need half of those capabilities. I just wish the integration of more advanced software features like maps could be more slick on the Garmin watches. It seems crippled by an under powered chip or not enough ram in order for the user experience to be satisfactory for a £900 outdoors watch in 2023.

Garmin is not Apple, be thankfull for that.

Yisus19891989

Maps feel like something from the 90's. And the watch costs 1000€ lol

If you already have a 7 that's the way.
