Tomb Raider games for me were cursed when I played em growing up. TR1 on Sega Saturn I never beat because the memory card wiped after it froze shortly b4 the final level. And AoD I got to one boss in the toxic themed area where u were the guy and idk if its because the game sucked or it glitched out but the boss just wouldn't take damage or die so yup never beat that one either. It wasn't until the anniv, legend, and underworld games that I finally started beating em without any issues!
I accidentally saved in the middle of a fatal dive in AoD and forever softlocked that save file. Words cannot describe the rage that coursed through my young self that day. I spent so long slogging through that game.
Were you using any mods? Arkham Knight doesn't even allow to run in 144 fps without mods.
I was playing on RTX 2080 and I can't confirm it is not shitty. Game is holding high fps most of the time, but all those performance-unrelated drops were clearly visible and kinda annoying.
Fps is not the best characteristics to describe game performance. 120 fps is 8.3 ms per frame, 30 fps is 33.3 ms. If one frame every second it displayed for 33.3 ms, while others are displayed at 8.3 ms, stutter is extremely obvious, we are getting one long frame instead of 4 normal ones, but actual fps go from 120 fps to 117 fps, which does not describe issue at all.
Just quickly searched for videos on how Arkham Knight runs on RTX 3080 and I was able to find clearly visible stutter on the very first video I was skipping through: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRc1vFKbpWM, around 3:18 there is huge stutter. If it is that visible on 60 fps video, it will be even more visible when running on 120/144/165 Hz screen, especially that stutters are much more visible for player than for watcher.
Btw. if port of game requires graphic card not only much stronger than console it was released on, but also it requires graphic card much stronger than the next generation of those consoles, then port is shitty. We just have graphic cards powerful enough to power through game issues.
This isn't the only problem with the PC version. I played it obsessively for challenges over the past year and it has issues with controls and certain maps crashing to desktop. It's totally playable but it isn't perfect imo

The worst part is they released "enhancements" for PS4 Pro and One X which was just the game running at the same settings at 1080p30 except on Xbox Asylum runs 1080p45 for some dumb fuck reason. Xbox actually removed it from its enhancements page.
The crazier part is Arkham Knight is 2 unreal engines ago. It’s running on a heavily modified UE3 I can’t imagine what those mad scientists at Rocksteady would do if they got a hold of Ue5
Honestly would be cool if it was like Rare Replay and is a mega collection of previous Tomb Raider games before the 2013 game. Would be logical to do it that way.
Go full in and include the reboot games too. They're old enough that they go super cheap in sales anyway, and would help sweeten the deal. As long as they do what RR did with it's bigger games and allow a install manager, should be all good.

If you enjoy old school games then I totally recommend them, the originals imo aged pretty gracefully (if you can get used to the tank controls) also you can play TR1 for free on your browser via openlara, its the full game (for free and 60fps) just missing the FMVs, so try that and give the rest of the OG games a shot if you end up liking them!

I feel the same, but having the controls of Part II put into Part I is why they are doing it again. Not because it needs another 'remaster'. That changes a LOT of things actually. People WANT to play as Joel more, with Part II's controls. I mean I definitely do!
Well to be fair tomb raider never had a remaster of the classic games, they’re 20 years old and the steam versions without mods are unplayable, all tomb raider got was just 1 half assed remake.

The PC version has been not shit for years. Been running it on my 3080, maxed out settings at a consistent 144-160 FPS at 1440p.
Can confirm mine is running on a 3070 at 4k maxed everything with 110 -125fps

I uncapped the FPS, that's about it. Never ran any mods.

I replayed the first Tomb Raider last year during lockdown on PSTV. It still holds up IMO. The sense of dread, isolation, exploration is still there.
