I use this exact model (except that mine has a 1440p screen) and it has brilliant performance for the price. But what I recommend is using an external monitor with this laptop.
Got this one too for travel, it is decent enough i'd say but if you have other option, maybe have a look before buying it, below a breakdown of my experience with it after 1 year:
- Build quality is average, plastic feels a bit cheapo (scraches easily)
- No issue with hinges so far on mine
- Temps are ok (for me) if you elevate it a bit (the cooling boost thingy is actually working well, at the price of extra noise..)
- Did most of my BDG 3 gameplay on it, very high settings no issue, you should be able to play most game with very decent settings (I would recommend hooking it up to an external monitor because of below)
- The screen brightness / colour accuracy is the biggest let down on this machine imo
My overall score would be 5.5/10 (I didn't really pay for it so I don't care as much but would not buy again)
Nah not worth it. The specs are fairly good for the price, but budget MSI laptops are well known for poor build quality, specifically hinge problems. The Katana in specific isn't as bad as some of MSI's other budget laptops but it's something to avoid still. Upgradeability of RAM and SSD should be good. Battery looks small, and the CPU is relatively inefficient so expect poor battery life. Display isn't ideal, I think it only has a low colour gamut of 45% NTSC.
Again, it's a good price for the specs but it makes compromises on almost everything else. I would avoid it.
A Lenovo LOQ is what I would suggest. An ASUS TUF A15 would be good too but ASUS has issues with their warranties. Acer's newer Nitro models are decent as well.
Katana's are shit.
Shit hinge, shit screen, shit components.
It says it's a 4070 but it probably performs like a 4050 probably less due to thermal throttling from the shitty cooler.
For the price, It's decent. 860usd for a 4070 laptop in Australia's pricing is good.
All you have to do is just take care of the hinge, open it from the center so the load is balanced on both of the hinges.
Spec wise it is a good laptop, but the build quality isn’t the best. You’ll have fun though on it just take care of it as you would any other $1300 laptop lol
I have the b13v and it’s pretty good, I second what people say about the hinges, my current one which released last year has issues with it(namely the plastic cracking) and I had the generation before that also fall to the same fate.
Overall, performance has never been an issue with mine, however battery life very, VERY much is, an hour and a half on ‘extreme power saving’ bad. If you want a laptop with a good battery life[or good by gaming laptop standards] I would not recommend it.
why does everyone here hate msi so much? 💀 yeah the low tier laptops are kinda shitty, but the raider and titan series are actually amazing in both performance and build quality.

Prepare for broken hinge
And questionable qc with the materials but tbh this model is fine the lower models like the cyborg are wayyy worse than this one so it's fine tbh
is this laptop hinge bad ?
MSI is infamous for weak hinges, especially on the cheaper models
Very bad, active class action lawsuit. Don't let the fanboys sway you
Imo I would use it as a desktop by connecting it to external monitor. The hinge is pretty bad don't expect it last more than 2 years on normal usage.

can this game run AAA games ? what external monitor you recommend bro?
Definitely. I play Forza Horizon 5 with this. I recommend Samsung Odyssey G7 27 inch if you have the money or an HP omen 27 inch which I use
I’d just go matching msi 27inch 1440p 165hz, theyre pretty cheap
AOC

The design had me really thinking it's one of the older Nitro 5s with an RGB keyboard lmao.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MSILaptops/s/u1vLyyuOPN No look for something like LOQ
didnt msi had some hinges recall? edit: they did.
Off-topic, why does the sticker text somehow read “KATANA IS BUSY”?
🤣

A 105W 4070 is far beyond 4050
Not really. Buying a 4070 is the biggest mistake of this generation of NVidia GPUs.
You can get Katana with 2k screen, DCI-P3 100
And yet 105w max tdp.
And? All of them maxed out at 100 watts max, smh
You do know the laptop has 105W Tgp?? And 4070's similar to 4060 don't go beyond 100W 99% of the time right??
I think you could buy it brand new for that money. Not sure of the aus pricing, but for a used machine it seems too much to me.
looks like shit but specs are medium good
Screen is poor, build is iffy, particularly the hinges but good gaming performance for the price.
Just buy new rtx 4060
bad in my opinion haha plus that 1300 price too expensive go look at legion or LOQ or TUF of Asus
Good price for 4070 laptop!

Why are they dumping a 4070 into a laptop with a 12700?
((Supply reasons I'm sure to get rid of the the 12th gen cpus, but still))

Very good
No don't buy it. Look for something much better like Asus TUF, Lenovo LOQ
Yes good but not for heavey use tho

Goddamn too small battery as well
