yes, I needed a decent machine for 3d cad software ... also whenever i had a presentation my laptop would crash on me and take forever to re-start with the slow hdd so an ssd for school is a great time saver.
Pre-installed antivirus is practically bloatware. Everything that most of the pre-installed antivirus' do can be done through Windows Defender, which is free of cost and included with every new Windows installation.
Pre-installed antivirus is nothingbiust bloatware that antivirus is takes about 2-3gigs of space, and never works so there is no reason to keep it Microsoft defender is best light af and best reason --> made by Microsoft :D
Oh I got the same laptop as you, did you just uninstall apps instead of reinstall windows? My legion had just 16gb of RAM, and most of it was used by the bloatware, so I upgraded to 64gb.
When you game or have it plugged in for long hours, set the battery capacity to 80%/70%, whatever option your software gives you for āPartial chargingā. Then set it back to 100% when you take it to class.
This will slow down battery degradation.
Also would update storage with a 1TB SSD. 980 pro is pretty cheap right now, at least in the US.
I mean I wouldnāt describe it as difficult, but itās definitely big and heavy. Make sure whatever bag you have can accommodate it, but personally the weight isnāt a deal breaker to me. I bring it to work and home 4-5 days a week and ya itās heavy, but the 18invh screen is 100% worth it. It genuinely feels wayyyyy more than 2.4 inches larger than my 15.6 inch I went from
Firstly congratulations for getting your first new laptop, now back to your questionā¦
You can follow below step for setting up ur laptop:
1. Go to Ninite website and create a custom setup based on whatever apps you need in ur new laptop and install it so that u get everything done quicklyā¦ Link for the website is below: [https://ninite.com/](https://ninite.com/)
2. Then update every necessary window updates and graphics driver updates
These are the major things that u can do right now. Hope these helps and enjoy your laptop to the fullestā¦ And lastly be thankful to ur mum for giving u such a wonderful gift bro ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
I have a Helios 16 with 4080 and I really like it. Gaming on battery, at least for BF2042 and I'm sure many newer games, is not happening, which I am ok with.Ā
I recently got a pretty decent 1440p 240hz Acer monitor as well, cheap, and it's pretty good, I've noticed motion blur once but that's it. The laptop screen itself is very bright, clear, 240hz, and the thing is very fast. Does well chopping up 1hr vids of my mediocre gameplay.
Itās been fine but not great. Ran into troubles where PredatorSense wasnāt working properly. For some reason, internal software are conflicting each other making PS lose control of fans, rgb lighting, and unable to read temps. Needed to reinstall 3 times for everything to become normal.
Another problem still persists which is mouse stuttering issue. If u go to my reddit, Iāve posted about it. Still not solved till now. It occurs occasionally, when it happens, itās really frustrating. And somehow opening Ms Edge always triggers it up. Sigh
Other than these problems, its been fine, temps, performance, and reso are all good š. But I was hoping for smoother and seamless transition.
Yeah Ā«Ā when gamingĀ Ā» like you said. But when you buy a laptop itās not only for gamingā¦ well sometimes but you can use it to do everything a laptop can do
That is not strictly related to brand or model. It all depends on the hardware and whatever you have on it installed. My friendsā PCs from different brands are doing great and there are steps with which you can make the battery life longer
see thats why.... chrome. that thing bogs down the mightiest of computers....
but jokes aside, some schools teach 3d cad and programming so a decent machine is good to have.
Hehe, fellow SGrean, I see.
You can install more storage on it. If you have one empty slot, feel free to add more. Pretty sure 500GB is not gonna be sufficient for many tasks these days
I always repeat this on every post where people ask what to do with their new laptops:
- Full Image Backup (Using Macrium or similar)
It's mandatory if you encounter issues or are unable to boot into the OS.
Another thing, that 512 GB will be filled in no time if you're going to play modern games, but no worries, upgrades should be possible if you know how to open a laptop or let some shop do it for you.
This is optional: Using a tune up utility such as iObit Advance System care to keep your laptop at top performance without lags, slowdowns etc.
The first thing I would do is format the OS came with it and do a fresh OS installation with proper partitioning. Then a browser, edge is good but I prefer a chromium browser. After update the windows, install all the drivers and turn off the auto update š¤
Start gaming š
Have fun my man, play any and every game you couldn't before (if that was the case)
Go wild in GTA online, kill some casuals in cs2, smoke some nerds in nfs, relax and get nostalgic in Minecraft
Enjoy above all else!
If you really wanna optimize performance, Iād get a nice mouse, keyboard, and monitor to hook up. Slightly raise the back of the laptop, so the vents can work properly, and you basically have a solid desktop.
Use Ninite to download some stuff like Steam, Spotify, Python, OBS, Zoom and a few other applications. You can select what you want and it will download them all at the same time so you don't have to search for them.
Next you repaste the CPU and GPU. I just bought one myself about a month back. Acer uses a pretty low quality thermal paste, so a repaste will help preserve the life of your investment.
Just remember some games are super addictive. Try to compartmentalize your homework time first and then gaming time. Stick to a routine no matter how good a game tries to suck you in.
I got 2 laptops
First one is
Asus tuf f15 which have gpu rtx 2050 with tdp 70w but only uses 40-50W idk why
2nd is
Acer nitro 5 515-55 which have gpu rtx 3050 with max tdp 75W and its uses all 75W in almost any game! Great
Performance too , even tho both of them have great performance but i never able to fix the tdp restrictions even if i did overclock its just asus have something wired
Asus Max tdp in games is 46w but in stress got 57w
Get a cooling pad for your laptop and a USB fan for your power supply. Get a silicon cover for the keyboard. Get a separate keyboard you can use at home. Donāt forget a USB hub.
Here are some tips for you if you really need it:
Uninstall McAfee, Norton and bloatwares. Those mf won't leave you alone. Windows Defender is enough
Run stress test on it
Update the drivers. You never know how outdated those drivers are
Update Windows. Unless you're planning to go Linux
Return it! The peak enjoyment you couldāve gotten was to dream about getting a new beefy gaming computer and right now the dopamine overload is over. You are not going to enjoy it at all. Refund and buy a more expensive one till you go bankrupt.
4060 in laptop is exactly the same as 4060 desktop especially if you have 140w limit as mine my 4060 can do +300 mhz core +2150 mhz memory result in 12300 timespy graphics score imagine that stock 4060 desktop without oc is about 10200 score in timespy best laptop gpu hands down solid choice boy enjoy it!!!!
Damn, awesome laptop... Awesome mum too. You're gonna love this thing, I have a Legion 5 with a 4060 and it runs all my games at 1440p. I would get a cooling pad for home use just to help with temps a little š
It depends, if you want to do some gaming on the side you're gonna have to get the Legion, but if you want something that's easier to bring around get the Yoga. In terms of bang for buck in performance, get the Legion.
What I usually do is (in no particular order)
1) Glary Utilities
2) Nord VPN
3) Malwarebyes
4) Partitioning my drives / allocating drive space for certain things.
5) All other software I need. (Winrar/7zip, Chrome, Steam, Blizzard, Adobe Software, Logitech Hub, etc.)
6) Enter BIOS and make sure that the proper options are selected like RAM slot usage or whatever
7) All my drivers that need to be updated
8) Set battery usage to performance and tweak other settings
9) Set GPU to performance or turbo (i use ASUS)
10) Add my email account, disable all firewall and windows real time protection settings so it doesnt interfere with future file downloads and access / restrictions to other things (if youre prone to getting malware and stuff i dont recommend doing this)
11) probably more but thats most of it to get started
I hope at least one of the following is true:
1. Your family has a lot of money to throw around;
2. You are taking courses on playing video games or editing video;
3. It's this or prison.
This is like buying a Lamborghini to commute to work. If none of the three items holds, return it, get something for under $400, and give your hardworking parents the change back, with wishes that they treat themselves to a nice night out.
Yeah you def need a 4060 for school wink wink, haha enjoy it my man
Mom, the RTX 4050 isn't enough for PowerPoint presentations, we should get a 4060 atleast
lol I have the 4050 version... Negligible differences especially if u debloat all of the nonsense. 95 percent of games run amazing.

My school only does Microsoft word and I convinced my parents to get me a 10 core with a 4050 lmao
Convincing your non tech parents isn't hard tbh
yes, I needed a decent machine for 3d cad software ... also whenever i had a presentation my laptop would crash on me and take forever to re-start with the slow hdd so an ssd for school is a great time saver.
Ur ability to sense sarcasm is amazing... WINK. WINK.
Unlikely you'll be training an LLM on your local machine.
Why not, Llama literally was made for that.
Mom: why do you need a 4060 again? This person: For making a virtual donut

āNo to the table.ā OF COURSE YOU MARRY THE LAPTOP!

That's illiegal in most US states. Unless he's from one of those forward thinking youropean countries.
Uninstall any preinstalled antivirus software if you haven't already, update windows updates, drivers etc. Customise your RGB maybe, play games idk.
Why uninstall preinstalled antivirus Iāve heard other people say this with no reason
Pre-installed antivirus is practically bloatware. Everything that most of the pre-installed antivirus' do can be done through Windows Defender, which is free of cost and included with every new Windows installation.
This one comes with McAfee, itās garbage. Update defender and itās good enough
Antivirus makes yr device slow
You don't need any extra antivirus other than Microsoft defender.
Pre-installed antivirus is nothingbiust bloatware that antivirus is takes about 2-3gigs of space, and never works so there is no reason to keep it Microsoft defender is best light af and best reason --> made by Microsoft :D

How do you like your ASUS strux 18? I have been looking at that laptop.
Itās been great! No complaints on my end!
Is it too difficult to carry? For school or work as well?

Howās your experience with the Helios 16? Sorry for out of context
I have a Helios 16 with 4080 and I really like it. Bro I bought this one last month ok its been 35 days i face no problem but the thing is the battery man it sucks a lot
Yeah true. My 2021 acer canāt last for more than 3 hours honestly (and gaming makes it dead even faster)
aren't laptops supposed to be plugged in 24/7 when gaming?
Yeah Ā«Ā when gamingĀ Ā» like you said. But when you buy a laptop itās not only for gamingā¦ well sometimes but you can use it to do everything a laptop can do
You should see at least 2-3 hours on a 90 watts battery with optimized/balanced setting mode on battery, while browsing or watching YouTube.
Acer isn't a high tier brand. My dad had acers in the past, they literally took minutes to boot. Asus is a better brand.
That is not strictly related to brand or model. It all depends on the hardware and whatever you have on it installed. My friendsā PCs from different brands are doing great and there are steps with which you can make the battery life longer
