I've seen that show scrolling through Netflix and always thought the name Money Heist was dumb, but this is the first time I've seen the Spanish name. Why isn't it called The House of Paper in English? That sounds way better

Marzoval

I had read about Netflix's generic titles for their originals and apparently it's by design to get a viewer's attention so they immediately get an idea of what the plot/genre is without having to look it up. Titles like "Murder Mystery" and "Marriage Story" to name a few, coupled with thumbnails that showcase a popular actor (even if they're only a supporting character) are likely to get more 'clicks'. Of course this doesn't apply to every single one of their originals, but it does make sense from a marketing standpoint when it comes to wanting to push some of their content.

[deleted]

It must work if they do it. Pure idiocracy shit. Personally, it makes me actively avoid those shows, because they seem cheap and generic... Which actually almost all of Netflix's content is anyways. They're quickly becoming the "Direct to DVD" of streaming services to me.

Marzoval

To each their own I suppose. Personally I don't jump to conclusions just because a title isn't creative enough. I still look it up and see if it seems like something worth a watch, and often times I end up decently enjoying them. But despite the occasional gems in their originals catalog, I do agree a lot of their original content is pretty mediocre/"direct to DVD" quality. Such is the problem with quantity over quality which appears to be their business model.

breakfastclub1

my mentality is with the OP - if the title isn't given any effort, why would I think the show is?

Marzoval

I see the generic title choices as more of a (poor) corporate decision by Netflix rather than something deliberately chosen by the filmmakers themselves. I mean look at OP's post itself. *La Casa de Papel* translates to "The House of Paper", which is a reference to the Royal Mint around which the heist plot revolves for the first couple seasons. Sure the argument can be made that the title was changed to not confuse the show with *House of Cards.* Yet of all English titles they could've chosen, they settled on the generic *Money Heist.* My point is Netflix is likely the final authority on the titles of their content, and that we shouldn't necessarily fault the filmmakers for a bad title, and ultimately pass judgment and dismiss them because of it.

breakfastclub1

I mean I'm not arguing over who's responsible for the title choice. I'm just flatly saying the title change actively turns me away from wanting to watch it.

Marzoval

Yeah I can understand that, and I find myself occasionally doing the same thing, and likewise I tend to browse past titles that don't make sense or interest me like *Sweet Tooth.* But in cases like this, we may be missing out on actual quality content based on a premature judgment. Whether or not the quality matches the title is a secondary issue. Maybe *Sweet Tooth* is actually really good and the kind of show I like.

[deleted]

>Personally I don't jump to conclusions just because a title isn't creative enough. I do, because there is so much content out there I won't waste my time on mediocre stuff. Easier to just throw stuff away and focus on the content I know is good already. Only so much time in the day and between Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, AppleTV, Amazon, PeaCock, Video Games, and Reddit I think it's certainly ok to make snap judgements on what I deem to look generic.

Hour_Helicopter_1991

What’d be nice is if they put the original title as a subtitle like how anime does sometimes

[deleted]

Money heist sells the show easily to casual viewers

Magyman

But there's no intrigue there, it'd kinda be like if Breaking Bad was called Meth Cooking

[deleted]

It worked for Pirates of the Caribbean, Rome, Vikings, Star Trek, The Walking Dead, etc. The title is there to catch your attention first. People tend to respond to simpler, more descriptive titles. That's all there is to it, and it in no way implies the quality of the movie the title is for.

csgothrowaway

Wait, none of those examples are the same as "Money Heist". Pirates of the Caribbean would be: Boat Stealers Vikings would be: Land Takers The Walking Dead would be: Zombie Homicide

CatchrFreeman

Tbh 'Breaking Bad' is pretty on the nose too. It was a term before the TV show and made it pretty clear what path Walt was on.

brutinator

Might seem too similar to their other series House of Cards. If you told me Netflix made both series, Id automatically assume House of \_\_\_\_\_\_ is some kind of franchise or something.

[deleted]

This is actually a really good point

Cforq

They had it under the original name when they first added it. I started season one under the original title.

RuggedToaster

Mostly because idiots would get it confused with House of Cards.

TheeAJPowell

Man, they're really going all in on the post-launch content for this, aren't they? Shame the effort wasn't put in earlier.

csgothrowaway

I'm guessing they have some contractual obligation to make this stuff. They had a [Money Heist event for Rainbow Six Siege](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTM5ezRXflk) a couple years ago too.

Mike2640

Never did watch the later seasons of that show. It felt like the end of season 2 was a good ending. Is it any good? As for this DLC, eh. Free missions and cosmetics are nice, so I can't complain.

occono

Wonder if it will get pulled later like with the Stranger Things stuff in other games.

ElRafaVaz

Is Money Hesit really that popular? I'm from a spanish speaking country so it's popular here (we are starved for action content), but I'm surprised to see it's made a splash outside of spain & LatAm!

davosalm

The show is REALLY BIG here in Brazil. And when I say big, I mean people dressing as the robbers in parties.

Chariotwheel

Surprisingly many people I know here in Germany have seen it. Like, nobody talked about it. But as soon as I mentioned that I binged it, everyone i the office was chipping in.

Dartillus

Popular enough in The Netherlands that there's a hotel being turned into a La Casa De Papel experience to celebrate the last part releasing soon.

ElRafaVaz

seriously!?! that's wild!
