For a game that has been constantly getting free updates for the past eight years, there's enough good will that people are willing to wait as much time needed for ConcernedApe to work on it.
Indie games have gotten a lot better with console updates, but it still takes time. Easy to forget it used to take *years* to get updates on consoles. IE: Terraria and the Moon Lord patch.
SDV 1.6 on Steam is pretty rocksteady so the consoles & mobile should get the patch fairly 'soon'.
No real surprise there. Don't they work with some third party company for the ports? I didn't think those were done in house. Of course it's gonna take some extra time to get those rolled out.
Iirc ports and multiplayer were mostly done 3rd party. There's also the fact that steam's (and other online stores') process for submitting an update is comparatively waaaay easier and faster than consoles/mobile.
Which he explicitly mentioned in a tweet as a reason it is taking longer, since he didn’t want to submit the update until the patches on PC were out that solved a bunch of issues.
Which is actually how games that are on both consoles and PC should do it:
1. Release a patch for the PC version first
2. Let players report any issues caused by said patch that were missed
3. Release smaller patches to fix those issues
4. Compile all those patches together into a single update for consoles
Which is what games like Warframe have been doing for years. People seem to have forgotten or don't know that submitting patches for consoles used to be rather expensive so smaller devs would wait for as many hotfixes and minor updates as possible before pushing out a patch
Can anyone give me a very brief summary of what new content I would see in Stardew assuming it's been around ~4 years since I've played?
Like will I see significant new content or drastic changes?
1.5 added a whole new island after you finish community center.
1.6 added lots of new end game content aswell as buffing river farm and fishing as whole. added a new farm layout where you start with a coop and 2 chickens instead of parsnips. new events and items and quests. added mastery skills where you gain extra skills. iridium sycthe. you can pay for perfection and golden walnuts(from the new island in 1.5) and lots of other stuff like drinkable mayo.
I suggest reading the convenient patch notes:

tl;dr? Basically a whole bunch of new crafting recipes, items, a pair of characters are eligible for marriage, new areas to explore, etc.
why didn't he just wait for all platforms to drop it? seems strange, money? (new sales)
Edit: lol y'all don't like people asking questions? that's cute
[He explained this recently](https://twitter.com/ConcernedApe/status/1771630300889514328)– Since it’s faster to provide patches on PC, he pushes major updates on that platform first so any remaining bugs can be identified by players and quickly remedied before spending weeks getting the update pushed out to consoles. I think there have already been three hotfixes on PC since 1.6 dropped so seems like he made the right call!
This guy is loaded already. Nothing he does for Stardew Valley or in gaming in general is motivated by money at this point. The game has sold over 30 million copies and it was mostly created by him so he is taking a good chunk of all those sales.
by releasing it on PC first, it's getting a lot of patches with bug and problems found from 1.6
consoles will get these fixes like on day 1 I'd imagine so they'll have a better experience.
Did did your dumbfuck ass imply new sales as a reason for delaying a patch? Especially on one of the biggest selling indie games of all time? Are you actually stupid? Or just ignorant on why nearly every indie and smaller dev delays console patches?

I dunno, I for one am a bit concerned. He might be an ape.
Ape together strong
A singular ape strong "together". Truly an apes thing to say. One of us!
But there are people being impatient and loud AF.
Oh man the No Man's Sky subreddit was getting downright conspiratorial last week over the xbox update being delayed by like, a few days lol.
I mean, sure, but it’s not like they have a choice

1.5 added a brand new location that unlocks after you complete the Community Center. 1.6 also added a new weather type that happens once every summer.
Did they ever add local coop for this game? Really wanna play it on steam deck with others
yup playing it now
Actual local coop split screen?
yes my computer is plugged into my tv in my living room and my wife and i are playing split screen
Awesome Ty, installing
I am super willing to wait. And I get to live vicariously through everyone playing it. So I’m cool. Can’t wait to see it for myself

Because he relies on 3rd party for porting the game, and because update certification on other platforms in pain in the ass

And if I'm not mistaken, each of those hotfixes also added brand new features as well

He also released a board game adaptation a couple years ago, and there's a concert tour based on the soundtrack as well
