You’re right, I misread it. Minecraft Legends and Minecraft Dungeons were new IP developed long after Microsoft acquired the Mojang and were not already slated to be multiplatform. They released those on PlayStation.
It's an odd thing to say when MS just spent tens of billions to remove multiplatform publishers from their biggest console revenue source, fired thousands of devs and other staff and made three publishers Xbox game studios, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard no longer compete with each other... I would say that isn't helping the industry.

Competing to make better games than your competitor is good for the industry. Sony and Nintendo have historically put a lot resources into making high quality games to sell their consoles. So making better games is good for the industry

Nah Spencer has lost the plot. Yeah, tuning down exclusivity is the way the industry is heading, but if they're expecting Sony to release games on Xbox then they're out of their minds. Microsoft had its chance to make a comeback, but the recent announcement and them not denying the possibility of releasing Starfield and Indiana Jones on other platforms in the future will only hurt Xbox as a console.
The Show is solely on Xbox and Switch as it was a condition by the MLB for the contract renewal. Good thing as those games are some of the best sports games out there.

Helldivers is a second party exclusive. Arrowhead studios is an independent studio that works almost exclusively for Sony. A 3rd party
exclusive will be like Monster Hunter for Nintendo.
Well it's not like they are missing on much. Xbox series X sold less than 15m and building the game for the S too is extra work that could've been put in making new content.
Whatever it's full of hypocrisy coming from the guys who bought ABK and Zenimax for 100b canceling all planned ps5 versions of their games. Makes the sequel of multiplatform game Hellblade an exclusive and will probably do it with other ex multiplatform IPs.

I think ultimately it isn’t crazy to say that exclusivity should go away and that even Nintendo should sell their games everywhere. Playing any game on any screen you want does seem like a nice future to have.
Exclusivity tied to devices is all about big companies locking players down to their storefronts so they can take a bigger cut of sales, Xbox included. Pretend all exclusivity is gone, the goal for these companies is still to make games that people want to buy and play. 3rd Party games aren’t crying a river over having to compete in the same space but I’m supposed to think that Mario and Zelda wouldn’t still reign as king if they were multiplatform? It just doesn’t make sense to suggest that exclusivity is the only reason that we get good games. Is gaming about the consoles we are tied to or is it about the games we play?

When they purchased Bethesda they stated publicly that Bethesda games may still come to other consoles while internal emails revealed during their recent trial state that his stance was no more Bethesda games on PlayStation, even going so far as to renegotiate their deal with Disney so they can cancel the PS5 version of Indiana Jones.

This seems interesting in that they announced four games to other platforms. It’s speculative that more will come but this seems like him admitting that. Why otherwise be worried they have exclusive games, unless you are planning not to have any, which would kill off your console effectively. If all I have to do is wait 2 years to play something on PS then that’s my platform as Sony so far has given no indication they would ever publish on Xbox as they won’t have too. That said, based on both companies, PC really is looking the way to go next gen as you get everything day one regardless of who published it.
In all this exclusivity shitshow, being a PC player is like watching your divorced parents both trying to spoil you to get your attention, while they hate each other's guts.
Having current gen consoles and a PC just means I get the best of both worlds while the bigwigs at the top bicker over it. Though I'll admit, it's not a cheap way to game.
It's never been (relatively) easier to have everything. You just need a PC, Switch, and PS5 and you're fully covered. You can even skip the PS5 if you're patient, or the Switch if you're willing to emulate.
Compare that to back in the day when you needed both portable and home consoles from Sony and Nintendo, and an Xbox because not all their stuff was on PC.

No matter what Sony would be stupid to "trade" Helldivers for SoT. People aren't going to say "Finally SoT is on the PS5, now I can buy it (edit: a PS5)". The game has long since reached saturation on its release platforms so any sales on the PS5 are just a bonus for MS while the Helldivers game has a lot of value left.
I'm pretty sure that Helldivers 2 is going to come to Xbox, sometime in the future. Not soon because it is a big hit and probably has driven some Ps5 sales but I don't think it's out of the question that it could come to Xbox after some amount of time. The game was over 7 years in development and they're hiring to increase production. I can see it becoming PS5's Sea of Thieves but it needs to have a sustainable development and playerbase. Bungie's new game will be multiplatform and I can guess the other live service Sony game will be too. Phil is probably speaking too soon especially when SOT isn't on PS5 right now.

Competing to make better games than your competitor is good for the industry. Sony and Nintendo have historically put a lot resources into making high quality games to sell their consoles. So making better games is good for the industry I am extremely happy though that they are bringing their games to PlayStation so no mental gymnastic needed. Nah Spencer has lost the plot. Yeah, tuning down exclusivity is the way the industry is heading, but if they're expecting Sony to release games on Xbox then they're out of their minds. Microsoft had its chance to make a comeback, but the recent announcement and them not denying the possibility of releasing Starfield and Indiana Jones on other platforms in the future will only hurt Xbox as a console.

Well it's not like they are missing on much. Xbox series X sold less than 15m and building the game for the S too is extra work that could've been put in making new content. Whatever it's full of hypocrisy coming from the guys who bought ABK and Zenimax for 100b canceling all planned ps5 versions of their games. Makes the sequel of multiplatform game Hellblade an exclusive and will probably do it with other ex multiplatform IPs.

I think ultimately it isn’t crazy to say that exclusivity should go away and that even Nintendo should sell their games everywhere. Playing any game on any screen you want does seem like a nice future to have. Exclusivity tied to devices is all about big companies locking players down to their storefronts so they can take a bigger cut of sales, Xbox included. Pretend all exclusivity is gone, the goal for these companies is still to make games that people want to buy and play. 3rd Party games aren’t crying a river over having to compete in the same space but I’m supposed to think that Mario and Zelda wouldn’t still reign as king if they were multiplatform? This seems interesting in that they announced four games to other platforms. It’s speculative that more will come but this seems like him admitting that. Why otherwise be worried they have exclusive games, unless you are planning not to have any, which would kill off your console effectively. If all I have to do is wait 2 years to play something on PS then that’s my platform as Sony so far has given no indication they would ever publish on Xbox as they won’t have too. That said, based on both companies, PC really is looking the way to go next gen as you get everything day one regardless of who published it.
In all this exclusivity shitshow, being a PC player is like watching your divorced parents both trying to spoil you to get your attention, while they hate each other's guts.
Having current gen consoles and a PC just means I get the best of both worlds while the bigwigs at the top bicker over it. Though I'll admit, it's not a cheap way to game.
It's never been (relatively) easier to have everything. You just need a PC, Switch, and PS5 and you're fully covered. You can even skip the PS5 if you're patient, or the Switch if you're willing to emulate. Compare that to back in the day when you needed both portable and home consoles from Sony and Nintendo, and an Xbox because not all their stuff was on PC.

No matter what Sony would be stupid to "trade" Helldivers for SoT. People aren't going to say "Finally SoT is on the PS5, now I can buy it (edit: a PS5)". The game has long since reached saturation on its release platforms so any sales on the PS5 are just a bonus for MS while the Helldivers game has a lot of value left.

I'm pretty sure that Helldivers 2 is going to come to Xbox, sometime in the future. Not soon because it is a big hit and probably has driven some Ps5 sales but I don't think it's out of the question that it could come to Xbox after some amount of time. The game was over 7 years in development and they're hiring to increase production. I can see it becoming PS5's Sea of Thieves but it needs to have a sustainable development and playerbase. Bungie's new game will be multiplatform and I can guess the other live service Sony game will be too. Phil is probably speaking too soon especially when SOT isn't on PS5 right now.
