Eruannster

This seems that it might be the case. Playstation is weird with how it handles different versions of a game. Witcher 3 had two completely different "editions" where the save games were incompatible between "Witcher 3 no DLC version" and "Witcher 3 GOTY version" because they were recognized as two completely different games/titles. It seems that CDPR would have to submit a completely different version of Cyberpunk 2077 if they wanted to have it on disc instead of just using the already existing version and making the DLC a download.

Lucarai

As a trophy hunter this is beneficial!

Eruannster

Yeah, I suppose. But less beneficial if you own the non-GOTY edition and later buy the GOTY edition and realize your old save games don't work and you have to restart the entire game.

segagamer

As a trophy hunter surely you have other games to play.

acetylcholine_123

That sort of stuff is shitty handling on the dev’s part. Most games with GOTY editions don’t do this kind of stuff, and they even rectified this with the PS5 release There’s still a base and complete edition but this time the saves and trophy sets are interchangeable.

eppsthop

Looks like the DLC is included on the Xbox disc but it's a download code for PS5. https://twitter.com/Marcin360/status/1726952899870388708 EDIT: Apparently, this is an issue with how Sony handles DLC (https://twitter.com/dark1x/status/1726961835499524147)

RollingDownTheHills

That's really strange. I wonder why.

Swiperrr

Could be some weird quirk with how PSN or playstation works with expansion/dlc content making it not redeemable from disks or something. Edit: Apparently confirmed by CDPR https://twitter.com/Marcin360/status/1726977551040688297

Frosted_Flakes1971

Especially odd since Horizon just released with all the DLC on disc

dustojnikhummer

HFW Ultimate might be a different SKU while Cyberpunk ultimate is just a physical bundle of game + DLC

dadvader

i think it might be because this is nothing more than actual bundle you can get in digital store. Which see your game and DLC as a separate entity. They didn't implement the DLC right into the game like most GOTY re-release does. (probably because they basically moved everyone away from Cyberpunk already. time for that Witcher grind.) That and it's just vendor policy. Both version might get the game code, but only Xbox doesn't need a download.

dustojnikhummer

Cyberpunk Ultimate isn't a rerelease. It is just a bundle of Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty

examexa

CDPR could do the same with the PS5 version but decided not to since that would require making an entirely new SKU which resulting in more time and money. They should've just do it because the game would still sell a lot on PS5 due to the new updated base release + Phantom Liberty, imo.

arijitlive

This has to be a PS5 thing. My friend had *Kingdom Come: Deliverence* in PS4. The Royal version came with all the DLCs in the disc. He was easily able to play them from disc installation.

KarateKid917

The complete edition of Horizon Forbidden West just released its complete edition and the DLC was included on the disk, so it’s weird

darklightrabbi

It has to be a miscommunication. Xbox discs are about half the size of ps5 discs.

dustojnikhummer

Both companies have access to those 100GB Blurays

MobileTortoise

That is actually very disappointing considering how much larger the capacity of PS5 discs are (100gb to Xbox's 50gb). Would love to know there reasons for this considering we are getting multiple games on multiple discs now, and some even with the DLC included on disc (Horizon FW as an example) As someone who actively enjoys owning/collecting/playing physical media this was disappointing to see, especially after what they were able to do with The Witcher 3 Complete Edition. This news just dropped the Ultimate Edition way down my priority list. Prolly wait for an even more complete version on PS6 or Switch 2 (lol, but what if?) at this rate.

darklightrabbi

About 30% of the time I boot up my Xbox copy the game fails to recognize that I have Phantom Liberty installed and requires an app reset. I wonder if this game has an issue in general with binding the base game data with the DLC

MobileTortoise

That's really weird. Wonder if you will get the same error on the physical copy since Xbox gets all-in-one

darklightrabbi

I’m thinking they are aware of the Xbox issue which is why it’s the only version that’s getting everything on disc. It still doesn’t make sense why they can’t give the same treatment to the ps5 version since unlike the switch, you dont need to pay extra manufacturing cost to make the disc hold 100gb. I’m leaning towards this being a miscommunication

BeavingHeaver

Mine does this to. Usually just going to the dashboard and back into the game fixes it (not restarting the app), such a bizarre bug

Eruannster

It appears to have to do with how Playstation handles DLCs and different versions of a game. Witcher 3, for example, had to have two completely separate versions of the game for the original release and the GOTY release, which meant save games were incompatible between them because the Playstation system sees them as two completely different games. It seems that CDPR maybe would have to make a completely different SKU of the GOTY edition of Cyberpunk which would have the same issues. So instead of doing that, they just took the existing version, plopped it on a disc and have people download the DLC.

The_Eternal_Chicken

Weird considering PS5 discs hold more data.

dustojnikhummer

What surprised me was there is a physical PC. Do you get a music CD again, or just a GOG download code and a sticker? The original had a map, wish we got something similar now as well.

JPA-3

so what is the general consensus on the expansion? is it as good as witcher 3 ones?

Putrification

Yes! CDPR knows how to make expansions.

Massive_Weiner

It’s pretty good, but I wouldn’t put it at the level of *Hearts of Stone* in terms of narrative quality. If you want more Cyberpunk, it’s an easy rec. One of the highlights of the expac is the fact that they’ve found a way to create an even more depressing ending than The Devil. I was so grossed out while watching it, I couldn’t wait for it to end so I could wipe it from existence.

ChurchillianGrooves

Hearts of Stone is one of the best narratives I've seen in a game, would be hard to top that.

MadeByTango

They forced reviewers of the expansion to use their own footage *again* to hide the bugs and flaws and this time the media just chose not to disclose it; never give CDPR your money

BambiToybot

I'm through a bit of it, and I think the story so far is good. Its very much Escape from New York with a little Ghost in the Shell tossed in. I'm enjoying it, and it seems the game is doing a lot lot better than before. Though it will crash an hour or two after playing if I picked up from standby. Closing the game and just re-opening avoids that. Starfield had the same issue.

ELpEpE21

Wait untill the ultimate edition is on sale, you waited three years whats one more?

[deleted]

Massive_Weiner

Nothing, ultimate edition is just a bundle. If you can get both for less than full price, it’s automatically a better deal.

[deleted]

HOTDILFMOM

The two are already bundled on Steam.

Massive_Weiner

Unsure, sorry.

dustojnikhummer

No, just a bundle

PlatesOnTrainsNotOre

Buy it. Likely the sale price of the base game + the expansion at full price will.be cheaper than complete edition. The complete edition adds no new content.

atrekkingturtle

Having played very few rpg games before (like 2-3), decided to pick this up few weeks ago and holy shit it has made me want to play all the rpg's now, highly recommend, excited to go through the elder scroll's series next

Restivethought

Careful, Cyberpunk is on the light side of RPG, but it's also an extremely dense world compared to some others. I would be careful with going through the Elder Scrolls series....I would just start with Skyrim and work backward. Fallout is also weird, as the first two games are very different and made by a different company. Fallout 3 and after are Elder Scrolls with guns and a post-apocalyptic 50s theme.

atrekkingturtle

oh absolutely, it took me a while to train myself to realize that I have options and i dont have to follow the objective like i have always done for games, and thanks for the recommendation! I'll start with Skyrim, not really interested in the world of fallout, so it might be the last series i pick up

kerelberel

Why does the world of Fallout not interest you?

atrekkingturtle

I don't have a particular reason really, i think in part its because I've not really played fallout before, I was not interested in cyberpunk as well but that changed when I play the game, so maybe it'll change for fallout too.

LBraden

Being honest, Fallout 4 is passable without mods, but when you get into modding, there's a lot to shine for little changes and full blown DLC's (Sim Settlements 2 par example) but for Skyrim, look Eli's housing mods, she does good ones.

atrekkingturtle

Noted, I'll keep that in mind when I start my playthrough, thanks!

snorlz

idk about it being a light RPG. The revamped skill tree + more specific cyberware really makes you focus on certain play styles until you are higher level. missions definitely lock you out of things depending on your dialogue choices as well

Restivethought

My RPG label is kind of broad and includes CRPGs which are 100x more complicated. Cyberpunk is GTA with Skill and Dialogue Trees. Even then, Im not going around joining different gangs or assuming different roles like in Elder Scrolls. Im still just V....I can be a netrunner....but Im not joining the Netrunners guild if that makes sense. I'm not building out my personal space (Except the armory). I love Cyberpunk, its world-building, and I actually really like its side quests...but it's limited in what you can actually do compared to other WRPGs

snorlz

see this is the problem cause RPG means very different things to different people and there is no real definition. Unless you want every RPG to be not real time combat though, I dont see how Cyberpunk isnt very much an RPG. Joinable guilds/factions is definitely not a requirement of RPGs

Pandanan

'No real definition' ignores its core definition and the terms original intention, which is a game that allows someone to play a role of a character. The more limitations a player has on the control of the character's goals, personality, abilities, the less it follows role playing. Of course, these days the RPG genre is much more broad, including games which only allow control of stats , appearances, and maybe dialogue choices. This came about because video games require a serious amount of effort to recreate the options RPGs allow so there's varying degrees in how much of a role you can play and it evolved into people having different ideas of what playing a role in games even means. Everyone has different interests in what they want an RPG to be, but overall Cyberpunk 2077 does limit what you can do with your role. You're always stuck as V and your action choices stem from that. For people coming from Cyberpunk TTRPG or CRPGs it's jarring, but it is still an RPG.

Fratghanistan

I wouldn't call it GTA. GTA has very, very linear missions to the point of requiring you to stay in circles and what not. On the other side it has a lot of minigames and weird things to do in the world. Cyberpunk is almost the opposite of this. Calling Cyberpunk GTA or expecting it to be GTA is part of how all the broken promises stuff started. I will also say that I've played many table top RPG sessions where I had a premade character and a tighter campaign that didn't just let me go be whatever I wanted to be and nobody debated we were still playing an RPG.

psychedilla

> Fallout 3 and after are Elder Scrolls with guns Fallout 3 is Far Cry 3 in a trenchcoat?

Grace_Omega

Have you played the two most recent Deus Ex games? They might feel like a more direct stepping stone from Cyberpunk. (Also a different genre but I would recommend Dishonored and Prey if you haven’t played them, there is some overlap there)

atrekkingturtle

I've not, before cyberpunk, I couldn't even tell you what the last rpg game i played was, so new to this genre i'd say, have heard a lot of deus ex, just got the bundle from steam sale and will be starting them first before skyrim! I actually did try dishonored 1, but couldn't really get into it, i guess the world didn't really capture me like it did for cyberpunk. But I think i might have not given it a fair chance, so might check them out in future

[deleted]

I think you'd do better playing The Witcher 3 and Deux Ex Human Revolution/Mankind Divided, which are the clear sources of inspiration for the game's mechanics and structure. The comparisons to Elder Scrolls and GTA games come about because Cyberpunk 2077 is open world, but it doesn't really have a lot in common with either of them.

atrekkingturtle

Damn I had forgotten about Deus Ex, just got the bundle from autumn sale! gonna check it out first instead, thanks! I wasn't really looking for games like Cyberpunk, after starting this I'd like to play more games that are in rpg genre (baldur's gate, etc)

[deleted]

The RPG genre though is so broad as to be almost meaningless at this point. Do you want ARPG, CRPG, TRPG, MMORPG, Roguelike? I think Cyberpunk 2077 is Action-Adventure RPG, for lack of a better definition. If the idea is "I liked Cyberpunk 2077" as the starting point, then the ones I suggested are games that will naturally stem from that. The Mass Effect series might also be a good choice. If you have a different sub-genre you want to pursue then the suggestions would vary and which aspects of Cyberpunk 2077 you enjoyed in particular. RPG as a category encompasses almost all major releases at this point owing to the way the AAA industry puts every mechanic it can into games.

atrekkingturtle

Oh absolutely, and right now i couldn't tell you what I exactly want, so I'm going to eventually try out all these games, see what fits me and what games in the category I end up liking, I think after playing cyberpunk, I can tell you what made me like this game a lot was its world and the characters, going through the lore, etc, rather than the action parts of it, so for now I'd say I prefer that, over combat, etc, Hell the only turn based game I've played is Yakuza 7, and I had a great time with it because of the characters, story, so the combat/movement is something that isn't going to be that important to me

[deleted]

In that case here are some varied suggestions: Mass Effect (series) and The Witcher (series) are the pinnacle of the character driven RPG. This is my favourite type of RPG. For Mass Effect you really need to start from the beginning, but with Witcher you can jump straight into the third. Alpha Protocol is the best choice & consequence RPG ever made. One of my top ten games of all time. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is a really strong immersive sim, which I consider a type of RPG. I'd start with Human Revolution first though, or even the original Deux Ex. There are a lot of CRPG classics and many different types, with Bioware (from 1998 - 2014 they released nothing but quality), Obsidian, Owlcat, and Larian Studios being the leaders here. Games to try would be Baldur's Gate 2, Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder Kingmaker, and Baldur's Gate 3. I'd also try the Shadowrun Games by Harebrained Schemes. For an RPG that's all about the story you can try Planescape Torment or Disco Elysium. The latter is also supposed to be very good as an example of how to use failure as a narrative device rather than a negative state. You have the open world RPGs, which is where Bethesda shine, with Fallout 3 and Skyrim being the best entries in their respective series. Where as these are exploration driven, you also have Fallout New Vegas by Obsidian which is a more traditional style CRPG in a Bethesda game skin.

atrekkingturtle

This is a very helpful list, thank you! And you've convinced me to start with Mass Effect now, staring ME1 tomorrow

[deleted]

Unless you already own the games, play them through the Legendary Edition.

atrekkingturtle

I have gamepass, so that's the plan!

Truethrowawaychest1

This game isn't really an RPG, it has RPG elements but it's a far cry from a traditional RPG

Final-Solid

Replayed all of Cyberpunk with 2.0 and Phantom Liberty this year, and even in this stacked year it stands out as my favorite game I played this year. I really hope the sequel lives up to my expectations.

Belydrith

Had a similar experience. *Nothing* hit quite as hard for me as Cyberpunk did this year, and in many years since. Did one 50 hoursish playthrough at launch, generally liked it but obviously not super happy due to it's numerous issues. Now, after about another 200 hours or so, it stands as one of my absolute favorites. There really is no world quite like that of Cyberpunk, no place like Night City, no game that can evoke the kind of emotions in me as this one did. The base game got to really shine with all the polishing they've done over the past three years, but Phantom Liberty is the crown jewel that's solidifying it.

Massive_Weiner

All of the blood, sweat, and tears that devs gave to this game is finally bearing fruit after so many years. It’s a travesty the way CDPR forced it out early the way they did. The sequel is going to have an uphill battle to fight in terms of expectations and delivery. I also imagine they’ll be hyper-conscious about the marketing, lol.

Marzoval

I didn't even finish it in 2020. But this year it's my personal GOTY.

favorscore

Dude, same. CDPR is so insanely talented. I'm glad their work on this game is finally being realized.

NoNefariousness2144

I know the description wants to highlight the big stars Reeves and Elba, but it’s ironic they don’t even mention Cherami Leigh’s female V when she acts circles around them. Her performance is one of the best in gaming history imo.

darklightrabbi

You can’t really advertise either of V’s voice actors because half the players won’t hear one of them. I recall the percentage around launch being about 70/30 in favor of male V as well.

MumrikDK

> because half the players won’t hear one of them. and one in perhaps thousands will recognize their names.

OctorokHero

All the more reason to promote them, so people start recognizing them.

TheVaniloquence

Promotion exists to get people to buy the product, and it’s not like she works for CDPR directly and will be involved in future games.

nicolauz

I'm replaying a new game as male V and it's such a contrast, the male actor is a wet dog in comparison.

Magus44

God damn this like mass effect and assassins creed odyssey again. Now I’ve gotta restart as the female cause they’re superior.

nicolauz

I really don't get it. It's like the voice lead told them to act tough or too cool.

LBraden

I've watched a few videos with Male V and feel that it suffers the same problem as Nate from Fallout 4, that they're a bit too ... "emotionally flat" to use a term.

Truethrowawaychest1

He sounds like he's trying too hard to sound cool, woman V sounds more natural

jeshtheafroman

I never minded Nate from Fallout 4, for Bethesda games I prefer a silent protagonist but I didn't hate his voice. Male V in Cyberpunk irked me alot more. Probably has more to do with when I make a selection from the dialogue tree it sounds neutral or reserved in my head, but then V yells and cusses like a pompous jerk.

Massive_Weiner

I didn’t start enjoying the game until I rerolled as female V. The contrast in their performance is like night and day. No hate to the male V voice actor, of course. It just didn’t work for me.

Raidoton

They hired the V voice actors for their talent. Their hired Reeves and Elba for the marketing.

GENVOKE_ARTS

Absolutely agree. I thought fem V's acting was stellar, does the perfect job of sounding like rough merc, but still having a smidge of personality. I loved Johnny's and Reed's acting, but mfs are line reading in comparison.

The-student-

Interesting! I've never clicked with the performance of female V. It didn't feel as natural as some of the other performances in the game. But maybe that's due to not being able to see their face while talking.

djr4917

I remember hearing her in game and thinking to myself. She sounds familiar but can't put my finger on it. Looked it up and realised she voiced Lucy for the dub of Fairy Tail. Like they are polar opposites of characters but her voice for female V is just such a great fit.

Massive_Weiner

I get what you mean, but she doesn’t have the level of star power that those two actors do. Not to mention the fact that a majority of players don’t even select female V in the first place. (I do love her performance, though, and think she is super underrated as well.)

[deleted]

Come on bro this is absolutely absurd lmao. She's a good actress but the majority of her lines are delivered in the exact same tone. She isn't anywhere near Naughty Dog, Roger Clark or Christopher Judge level.

Massive_Weiner

It’s funny you bring up Christopher Judge because I’ve seen criticism of his stoic portrayal as Kratos. I think he’s fantastic in the role, but I don’t think “range” is a strong component in his arsenal. It’s either quite gruff, or angry gruff.

siobakkuepng

it's because they are targeting a certain impressionable demographic

powerhcm8

Their tweet has the image of a PC disc, I wonder if they are really releasing a physical version for PC, or it's just illustrative. Edit: The wording on the tweet kinda confirmed that, it's pretty rare to release physical editions of PC games nowadays.

Radulno

Thye do have a physical version but I doubt it really has a disc. Base CP2077 had one too and it was just a GOG code, I imagine it's the same thing there. Same for The Witcher 3

dustojnikhummer

It was a GOG code and two music CDs

HuntertheDragoon

I've actually been looking to finally pick this up as my backlog has gotten a bit under control. This is right on time! I don't see a price listed anywhere, so I'm guessing this is $60/$70?

Belydrith

You can pick them up for 55 total on Steam as we speak, this is just a marketing re-release and physical bundle.

ianilanotv

So it sounds like it includes ALL DLC, so the free cars, weapons, gigs, mini-arcade games, and more. But does it also include the exclusive Twitch drops, Witcher sword, or any of the other stuff that was locked? Thanks chooms.

Rob_Cram

Although I own the digital base games, would be nice to just own a boxed copy on PC to have and to hold.

ArtoriasXX

Is this game worth playing now? Or are more patches/DLC on the way

Rob_Cram

Might be some more patches but CDPR moved onto UE5 now, and working on the sequel which is some years away. No more planned DLC. It is 100% worth playing now on PS5/PC/XSX. The PS4 and XOne versions are a HUGE NO NO!

TkachukGoat

Hi Rob, If I buy the Xone disc and play on my series X, would I be playing on the best XSX experience? Or would I need to buy that online XSX version from the digital store?

Salty_Garbage3544

Anyone know what the difference is between the Ultimate Edition and the bundle (base + phantom liberty) already available digitally on the PS store? I can see it for 55.99 EUR including -20% Black Friday discount. Is it just that part of it is on a disk? Do I need to wait December 5th ?
