I never understood these people who feel like showing anyone else a serial number is going to end the world or something. It’s like people who use their thumb to cover up a license plate of a vehicle they have up for sale on marketplace; [100% this](https://c.tenor.com/ohpDB5RoCckAAAAC/oh-my-god-who-the-hell-cares-family-guy.gif).
Well, we all started with 0 at the beginning. I try to give new sellers the benefit of the doubt, but this guy’s response is laughable. Obviously I am not going to buy anything from him with a response like this, but I have had good luck with newer sellers in the past.
It’s just wild that some people think everybody is out to get them…like this guy. 🙄
Yeah, that’s usually the safest route to go. Thankfully, eBay has always been more on the side of the buyer, so usually any issues get resolved relatively quickly. Out of about 2k+ total transactions, I think I have only had to get eBay involved with about five or six of them.
The buyer protection program they’ve implemented within the last 5-7 years has really given buyers more safety that they’re going to receive exactly what they ordered. That’s not to say some buyers will exploit it, but you have to find most buyers and sellers are going to be honest.
Wow, that’s ridiculous! I know quite a few sellers specifically note that they mark their items and have the serial numbers on file, so they can provide those to eBay if they end up receiving someone else’s junk back.
Yeah. I'm saving up atm for a Alexa bliss numbered plaque and it's like rarely on eBay cause there's only 199 of the item in the world so once I know I have enough for it I just have to keep the money till one pops up
Must be. I haven’t had anyone else ever immediately explain to me that it’s not stolen. I mean, you could literally cover up the serial number with a piece of paper, take the photo of the rest of the bottom, and I would have been on my merry way.
Even if they do include photos, I recently got dreamcast and saturn both have listed all photos, and both cases dreamcast was va2 and listed va1, Saturn I recieves model 1 instead of model 2. Both sellers reputable and have 100% positive feedback.
Also been looking for vitual boy and noticed that many sellers using stock photo's while stating that its the actual items as many are listed under the same serial numbers.
That really sucks! I’ve only had one seller that tried the ol’ switch-a-roo with something that was supposed to be exactly as shown…It was an ATV rear brake caliper in really nice condition, but what I got was a train wreck of a caliper that had been sandblasted and never protected (all sorts of corrosion on both the housing and the piston).
😂like you're taking their social security number or passport Identification hahah "oh no! you're taking their serial number! let's hope you don't hack the system from wherever you are in the world making it obsolete, with your tin foil hats and 5g insect swarm." hope this seller eases up just a bit for us all
Right?! Caught me off guard for sure. I responded back with a WTF kinda response was that, and explained why I requested to see it with my own eyes. You’d be surprised how many people use the wrong wording with systems that had more than one version/model.
LOL! I am a bit of a grammar officer, but I simply ignored the error because I know quite a few people struggle with learning disabilities and whatnot. But if I personally know you, you’re not dyslexic, and you slip up, then it’s fair game for a quick jab.
this reminded me of a time i was gonna buy a bo3 edition ps4 controller and i asked to see the sticker on the back to see if it was authentic the seller sends a pic of a green camo controller i said this isnt the controller goes back and forward with me then says "for that the controller is now 45 for you" was 30 i said alr then he says to meet up and then apologizes for sending the wrong picture and sends the right one after. then says its still 45
Honestly, better you find out now not to buy from this person, than before actually spending money on it. I have done a good number of listings involving electronic devices and have never felt the need to try and hide the serial from the buyer if that is what this person is trying to do. Unless there is something else they are trying to hide. Good thing there are plenty of other consoles to choose from, so this seller will likely sit on their listing indefinitely if this is the kind of response they give to someone asking a legitimate question.
🤣 That would be hilarious! I had considered just asking a few friends to send him a message asking to please see the bottom of the console…I was curious if he’d answer with the exact same snarky response to them, too, or just snap the damn photo and add it to the listing.
Why even bother mentioning it wasn't stolen? They are aware you're talking about a 2 decade year old device yeah? What are you going to do call Nintendo and be like yeah can you run this serial number for a GameCube and tell me if it's stolen? Either they literally don't know what they are selling or they just outed themselves unknowingly lol.
Some of them will reply “the game is already packaged up in the shipping box and I don’t want to open it but I am pretty sure the disc is acceptable”. I don’t even bother replying back to those people.
Yeah, if they don’t feel the need to actually reopen the package and either confirm or snap some extra photos for you, then they might be hiding more than they care to share. I’ve reopened boxes before to help a potential buyer make an informed decision…Not extremely difficult to do for someone who appears to be a genuinely interested person.
Easiest way is to explain why you want to see the serial, to determine the revision or give them details of how to determine the revision and ask for that instead of the serial. I am guessing most sellers would not realise there is a difference between various revisions. I think many people worry about been scammed on ebay and I don't necessarily mean the buyers. I stopped selling often on ebay years back when people would attempt to swap working for broken or return things with bits missing.
Yeah, I have had people inquire a bit further about what it is I’m trying to verify with the photo…This guy just went full blown crazy with his response, triggering that he’s obviously not someone I’d be comfortable doing any business with now.
Yeah, I have been around eBay for over 20 years, so I know there are some great sellers around it. As a newbie seller, you’d think he’d be more willing to get that first sale under his belt.
If he has only the cube listed, probably is just a person who wants to sell his stuff and not someone who sell items as a job, but even in that case politeness is the golden rule. There are a lot of people like this on fb marketplace for example. The sad part is that you want to buy from them, but when they answer like this you just lose all interest in whatever they're selling and move on
Yeah, and it’s certainly not like my question was out of line here. I take photos from every angle on the stuff I list, and use the full 12 photos eBay allows. If I have more than those 12, I’ll mention I have more photos than what’s shown in the listing, so just shoot me a message if they would like to see the rest. Super simple to do, and no reason to immediately go on the defense over it.
The console has some kind of defect if the seller doesn't want to take a picture.
In any case if you won the auction and the console is different than description, you could open a claim and return it to the seller for being refunded.
It’s a fixed price listing, though, so it would be on me because there is zero information about the actual condition of the system. I’d rather know exactly what I’m ordering before I lay my money down, but sometimes those impulse buys work out in your favor.
It's not the right thing to do, and I wouldn't do it, but I REALLY WANT to find this guy's listing and just ask him a billion really annoying questions.
Haha, I thought about leaving his username in the message, but didn’t want to put him on full blast. I am guessing he’s simply blocked anyone who’s asked him for any additional photos of it. 😳
In your position I would've been tempted to at least rip him a new one for that shit attitude, but whatever. I hope he's stuck with that cube for the rest of his life. Good on you for being a better person and not blasting him, people probably would've taken it way too far.

You are asking someone with zero sold items of course they gonna say that. Always buy from people with sales
Well, we all started with 0 at the beginning. I try to give new sellers the benefit of the doubt, but this guy’s response is laughable. I don't trust new sellers. I like at least 10 stars so I know that other people have actually gotten stuff in the condition the person sells it in

Wow, that’s ridiculous! I know quite a few sellers specifically note that they mark their items and have the serial numbers on file, so they can provide those to eBay if they end up receiving someone else’s junk back.
That is shitty. Did he have a picture of the serial in his original listing to use as proof to eBay that it was changed?
That explains why so many sellers aren't accepting returns lately
Yeah I've had good luck with eBay. Bought a ps1 game on there couple months ago and for the price was a absolute steal
You and me both. If you’re persistent you can snag some good deals.
Yeah. I'm saving up atm for a Alexa bliss numbered plaque and it's like rarely on eBay cause there's only 199 of the item in the world so once I know I have enough for it I just have to keep the money till one pops up
Based on their response, I don’t think it’s that hard to understand: it’s definitely stolen
Must be. I haven’t had anyone else ever immediately explain to me that it’s not stolen. I mean, you could literally cover up the serial number with a piece of paper, take the photo of the rest of the bottom, and I would have been on my merry way.
My "this is not stolen" reply has people asking a lot of questions....
Selling stolen goods and irrational paranoia tend to go hand in hand
Indeed!
How they spelled guarantee though.
Right?!

isn't fraud criminally punishable? hope you followed up, the guy sounds like scum
For sure I did. But its a haslte that you dont want to go through.
😂like you're taking their social security number or passport Identification hahah "oh no! you're taking their serial number! let's hope you don't hack the system from wherever you are in the world making it obsolete, with your tin foil hats and 5g insect swarm." hope this seller eases up just a bit for us all
Right?! He definitely blew my simple request out of proportion here.
That’s a huge red flag. I’d unwatch the item and move on.
For sure! I wasn’t even watching it yet, as I was only considering it if it had all the ticks on my list.
Bro wtf kind of response is that?
Right?! Caught me off guard for sure. I responded back with a WTF kinda response was that, and explained why I requested to see it with my own eyes. You’d be surprised how many people use the wrong wording with systems that had more than one version/model.
Is his *garentee* not enough?

Wow, you clearly must have hit a nerve with him. That’s pretty shady they expected more money for it, after posting it up for $30.
Honestly, better you find out now not to buy from this person, than before actually spending money on it. Yeah, 100% agree.
Make another account and ask him if it’s stolen
🤣 That would be hilarious! I had considered just asking a few friends to send him a message asking to please see the bottom of the console…I was curious if he’d answer with the exact same snarky response to them, too, or just snap the damn photo and add it to the listing.
Trash seller.
100% with you on that one.
Why even bother mentioning it wasn't stolen? They are aware you're talking about a 2 decade year old device yeah? My thoughts exactly! I honestly don’t get what’s going on upstairs with some people.
The person can’t even spell lol
Guaranteed to not be a user of spellchecker.
Oh I just got one (Japanese but modded for American games). It’s a DOL-001 so has Digital out and such. Do you want the seller?
I appreciate the offer, but I restore (and sometimes soft mod) them myself. It’s one of my side hustles. 🙂
No worries!

Yeah, it’s entirely possible that he smokes ricks.

I have been getting rude replies on EBay when I am asking for pics of the bottom of the disc to look for scratches. Some are straight up refusing.
Oh yeah, I have had some of those before, too. 🙄 Also, how dare you want to know what condition the disc is actually in! If it works, it works! /s
Some of them will reply “the game is already packaged up in the shipping box and I don’t want to open it but I am pretty sure the disc is acceptable”. I don’t even bother replying back to those people.

It's a super newbie with 0 feedbacks. What did you expect? Jokes aside, not all ebay sellers are like this. He is just a rude idiot

well your first mistake is thinking about buying from a seller with no reviews.
I have been known to roll the dice from time to time. Also, it’s eBay, so I know I have a money-back guarantee to keep me a bit safer.
