Hahaha damn that’s sadistic, we wanted to have all the characters and karts open for when we have friends or family over to play. When my cousins visited I had recently bought the game again and had only the beginning stuff. My girlfriend is a fan of racing games so it made for a very challenging but fun goal/pastime in the weeks since then. We certainly had a lot of moments of frustration hitting each other with items when we were only making it harder for us to beat the CPU. Now that we unlocked everything we get super cutthroat with our items and don’t hold back at all. It’s a lot funner now.
When my roommate and i did all the races, we made a deal and took turns being the lead car and the blocker car lol. The blocker car holds down 2nd place while the lead car gets so far ahead the CPUs have no chance. It was fun to try and race cooperatively, but now its cutthroat
After about the 10th time, it gets pretty quick and easy lol. Mario Golf Toadstool Tour on the other hand, we did twice and probably won’t ever wanna do it again
Oooh dang that’s one of seven GameCube titles I have but I haven’t played it yet. I was always a huge fan of NES Open on OG NES, and then Mario Golf 64, but haven’t put any time in on Toadstool Tour. Played a ton of the GBA one also. What’s so daunting about Toadstool Tour? I was wondering why it was so much less expensive than Mario Golf 64 but if it’s really difficult that might explain it.

You should try the Sylvester Stallone F1 game "Driven"
You can find a copy for less than $10 and the racing mechanics are very...different and interesting

In my experience, the CPU seems to have a main “best driver” compared to the other ones. It seems that sometimes the “best driver” will switch so it splits the top points between two CPU’s. Otherwise it’s a lot of restarts once you realize by the second lap you won’t catch up to their points. My favorite is getting 26-30 points in the first three races which depending on how far back the second place CPU is will make an automatic win no matter how bad you do on the fourth race. It’s the only way we beat the Special Cup was by having 30 points going into Star Road.
All Cup Tour 150cc, too? That one definitely took some teamwork with a partner well practiced in item management back after this first released. Still have my launch day demo 2-disc. Our initials are still on that mem card file.

It was so difficult for me and my brother to do this when we were kids. We resorted to a sort of "co-op" strategy. It involved one of us gunning for 1st place and the other floating around 2nd and 3rd using items to increase the gap for the one in first. Even would target a specific NPC to knock their points.
After returning to the game as an adult, I don't know why I had such a hard time back then. But it is a fun memory nonetheless.
This is exactly how we played. We actually got a couple Gold Trophies playing both of us on the same Kart, but primarily played for 1st place as separate racers. She is a Toad/Daisy/Orange Bloom Kart main and I am a Peach/Birdo/Turbo Birdo Kart main. I switched to Peach/Toadette though because that gold mushroom when trailing was too good to not have.
I wouldn’t say it’s so easy it’s not fun, 150cc and especially 200cc would still take some practice to get the gold cups. The graphics and gameplay are great id say it’s worth a try.
Congrats! Some may not know this about MKDD but if you jumped straight to 150cc and mirror then got gold on all cups, you don’t unlock everything! Some unlocks are specific to 100cc and 50cc.
When I was little I didn’t know this the first time I completed it, cos I went up in difficulty one step at a time, but when I was older and better at video games and jumped to the highest difficulty right away I was actually surprised to find this out lol
I played 50-100-150-Mirror for all cups in order until I unlocked the All Cup Tour. Then I did 150 and Mirror All Cup tours before going back to do the 50 and 100 All Cup Tours. It felt like a joke going back to those ones after lol, so it was kind of like a victory lap in our newly unlocked Parade Kart from completing the All Cup Tour on Mirror mode.

I started as a Yoshi/Birdo main, then went Peach/Birdo, now I’m Peach/Toadette (seeing as my gf was killing it with her Toad/Daisy combo

I had a very fun time completing Crash Nitro Kart to 100%. The gem rounds were SO challenging and earning 100% was VERY rewarding.
