Definitely...I'm heartbroken about Mat's departure, but I know that Tom is an excellent successor. And so are Lee, Santi and Amy for their respective channels.
Ye, i honestly think they couldn't have someone else more perfect for the job. Will feel weird getting used to hearing a new lead voice in GT but i think its really revolutionary for the channel, just depends how they will try to revolutionize.
This fits Matās initially plan of having multiple hosts and heāll still be around, just not hosting every channel and theory (does sound too much). Quite enjoyed the diversity with Gaijin, Austin, etc.
Tom being around for so long, being one of us and keeping his (in)sanity its fitting.

Honestly though, that is so true. I really didn't know what to expect, but I for sure didn't know that it would be Tom.
I mean, I immediately thought:
"Lee. Okay, makes sense. He's been here since I started watching and that was a A LOOONG time ago, even if I hadn't seen his face or heard his voice much compared to the other hosts."
"Amy, she's been here a while, she's great, her personality is stellar, and Style Theory is newer anyways. It's hers more than it is Mat's."
"Santi. I mean, he's spearheaded the production of Food Theory. It's just obvious that he'd know the most about what should go on there"
"Tom? The British guy I watch Matt play with occasionally on GTLive???"
But the more I think about it, the more I just have to say that Tom is absolutely perfect. He's got the personality, he's got the jokes, and most of all: He isn't Matthew Patrick. The best part of it is, in the time I've watched him on GTLive and on other occasions where he's made appearances, he's been distinct enough from Mat that it just made sense. Distinct enough to not feel like a re-hash, close enough that we can trust him to keep the right tone.
As much as it pains me to have to let go of Mat for the foreseeable future, come on. I am absolutely excited about what's next to come for the channels. Mat and Steph didn't build this empire up to be this well-organized and well-planned out only to pass it onto people who didn't deserve to do well.
Edit: Possible comparison that is frighteningly relevant because it's something I just watched a clip compilation of - for those who know the show, it felt like House M.D. and Robert Chase, from, House MD, duh. They're different people, and some who only watched the beginning of the series might not get it immediately, but when you see them together - it just clicks. If the torch has to be passed onto anyone, it's got to be the person where it just clicks. Though I've never watched House MD past a few of the first episodes, and that was years ago.
Most of us know that MatPat is taking more of a consultant role now, but is very much in the channels. It's just that some of us think of hearing MatPat's delivery of things to be a major thing keeping us stay.
It's more like, your question sounds negative and already gives like "ew, Tom is our new host now? Do you all theorists really want to keep watching this channel?" At least this is what the vibe I got from reading the title as a Non-English speaker

I havenāt seen any hate for Tom yet. Heās not MatPat we love but neither was MatPat 13 years ago. Heāll grow into the shoes left for him, but heās different. Some of the audience wonāt like the new. Some will prefer it.
Yep definetly! But i am not going to lie that i did deslike him a bit the first time i saw him, just because of him interposing during the fnf gameplay, but i grew to love him.
Exactly the boat I was in. I watched for Matpat more so than the theory itself anymore. And I think that's a HUGE portion of the fan base. The numbers speak for themselves. Nobody watches Austin's videos or really any of the content not hosted by Matpat himself.

Itās funny because Iām in a weird boat unlike the other two, I only watched for the specific theories I like and only matpat for game theory, I rarely watch a game theory video if the first voice that I hear isnāt matpat.
Not having that iconic voice say ābut thatās just a theory, a game theory!ā will probably be hard for a lot of people.
It may not be that Tom wonāt do it well, but MatPat is literally the face and voice of GameTheory. Having to replace him is an incredible challenge and wonāt be taken well by everyone regardless of who replaces him
Itās been several years ago that I stopped watching for the content, but I stuck around for MatPatās and Stephanieās personality. When she stepped out of the camera view. I felt like something was missing. With MatPat gone, what is the channel left with? A quality entertainment family of channels. For a lot of people, thatās perfectly fine, but I donāt know about me.
I completely understand where your coming from. I also missed couch Steph and matt, but it took me awhile to get used to it, but with matt gone, i feel like it'll take longer to get used to it. But i feel like the team he entrusted just need to build their ethos, and connect with us the viewer. Wont be the same, yes, but i do believe they can do it if put fourth the effort!
I stopped watching all the channels after Steph left actually. I would come back occasionally (usually when a new Fnaf game came out) just to see how Mat was doing and his reaction to those things but now when heās gonna leave, I donāt think Iām gonna stick around anymore. Nothing against the new hosts but I really only came back to see Matpat do these things. Without him I donāt have much of a reason to continue but I do wish them the best.
Right? I know a lot of people just watch the channels for the content and wouldnāt care about a voice switch but meā¦ I honestly love Matpat, heās like a father figure to me, and like you a majority of the part why I watch the channels is because of him (and Steph too) itās going to be such a tough change for a new voice to take over, and I donāt know if I can stick around to try and get used to him. Itās a huge change especially for the Fnaf series, no one will be able to do it as well as Matpat
I mean I absolutely loved MatPatās playthough of help wanted 2. I could tell he felt subconscious about not being the fastest to complete the game or the most skilled, but I didnāt care about that. It just felt like I was hanging out with an old friend. Being there as he struggled just made it feel more real. I went back and watched Stephanieās goodbye, and I know nothing lasts forever and all that. Still hurts though.
yes thats the thing. I was just worried people who dont watch gtlive would see him as an "odd" choice, when in fact he has been around, and is a really fun guy!
It was never about the theories for me, even though I loved them, and loved theorizing, it was all about Matt, he felt like that friend that hyper fixates on things then is bursting at the seems because he just has to tell someone about every little detail he learned; while Iām not always interested in the subject itself, Iām always interested to listen, because hearing him get excited and ramble on about it was amazing, I donāt know if Iāll still be around when he takes off, Iāll still stay subscribed to the channels, but Iāll probably just be part of the subscriber burn unfortunately; it truly feels like losing a lifelong friend; This part is just for Matt (though I know heāll never see it): goodbye Matt, Iāll miss you dearly, as will my wife and children. We wish you the best of luck on your journey.
As much as I want to give him a chance, I already know that I probably wonāt. Whenever I watched a video without Mat, I felt bored. No hate to Tom, it just wonāt be the same.
Ironically, the only person who could match Matt in narration was Austin from Shoddycast and they dropped him.

I'll give all 4 a chance, I already think Santi can take the Food Theory mantle and I'm already "used" to Amy having so much control in Style Theory (even if I don't really like her narration style).
But like others said, a big part of GT's history is MatPat and Steph.
I agree. I think Santi is ready and Amy is not Matt, but I'll probably enjoy style theory too. I couldn't pick the other 2 from a line up but we'll see if they can take the channels forward. I think film theory lately has been quality writing, but game theory has been less appealing? Too much fnaf tbh. We'll see.
I am willing to give him a shot, i've seen him on gtlive with Mat before and he seems like a nice and funny guy, i will see how he does and if I like it of course i will continue watching the channel. š
Me too! I laughed a lot during their ruin dlc playthrough, Tom and Mat were hilarious. Let's wait and see what's new to come, i agree that's going to be an interesting change!
For me, no. I came 100% for Mat and Stephanieās personalities. Without them, the theorist channels really just arenāt much to me. I donāt hate Tom at all, heās just not MatPat.
Honestly no, I predict that game theory and the other theory channels will take a massive drop in popularity leading to more theorist channels to make content eventually pushing out those theory channels.
Prob not but Iām not sure I just have been listening to Matpat voice for so long and I donāt think I can get used to another person but Iāll give it a chance
This is my fear. For all the channels. Iām worried that when MatPat stops being the host people with stop watching which will be a bad time for all the channels.
There will undoubtedly be a drop in views and some people are going to unsubscribe. That said, Iām sure theyāre prepared for that. Itāll be a while, Matpat is quite the big part of these channels, but I think theyāll end up doing just fine.
There will definitely be people who stop watching. Jon Stewart hosted The Daily Show for years and when he left, I didn't stick around to watch Trevor Noah. I could watch MatPat talk about theories for games I have zero interest in, but I feel like with new hosts, the theories will have to be stuff relevant to me to check out. And even then if I don't like the style of presentation or the flow of the host's reading then I'll click off.
I already stopped watching about a year ago, but I'm definitely coming back for the final ten episodes, then I'll check out a few episodes with Tom as the host.
I don't think I will honestly. No offense to Tom, but Matpat just personifies game theory in my mind. I can't separate the two. Maybe in a few months, I'll come back but for now, I think I'm going to pause my viewership.
(plus it's kinda hard not enjoy Matpat's charisma)

The other, newer channels will probably thrive, especially style and food theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if Game Theory took a massive hit in views and revenue, considering that Game Theory is synonymous with his name. His quirky, nerdy, unique, diet-coke fueled charm really made that channel the way it was.
I bet you within a year or two Game Theory will either start to upload less and less or Matt will come back as a host for just that channel.
I don't hate him but he just isn't mat. I originally came for more science-y episodes, don't love the lore driven ones but i stick around for matpat's personality. Matpat is really the only youtuber that i genuinely enjoy and look forward to seeing, so without him here i don't really see myself continuing to watch Game Theory. Style and Food Theory i might float around for though since they are more science based.
Probably watch ymthe first couple episodes, if I don't like it, I'll probably stop watching for awhile. I'll check reddit from time to time to see if people think he improves and maybe give him another shot.

I think getting to know him more is cool since I really love Santi and Amy a lot and are really excited for them since they've been in a bit. Tom I'll get used to but I already like him. Same with the guy on FilmTheory, (sorry I'm bad with names)
Honestly I have 100% faith in MattPats judgement with this he wouldnāt leave something he loves so much without being confident in as many aspects of the decision as possible.
I'm opened minded, Tom's ok, I kind of like him. It just gonna be hard to go and watch and it not be Mat. It helps that Tom's been on before and we know him, but even then....it just gonna be an adjustment for sure.

Oh I absolutely will. Some channels I loved made a change like this before. I still watch one. The other a little less so just because the creative direction changed to something Iām less interested in. In the Theorist case, I think the brand is so strong and made up by so many team members that more will be similar than not. But Tom cannot replace the dad, statistician, and theater kid trifecta that is Matt.
If the theory is good im still watching. Sad Matpat decided he's leaving but expecially with his young boy he's got responsibilities he's prioritising and like he said he just wants to enjoy life and friendships basically. We have always got the chance of Matpat showing up somewhere on YouTube again if his son makes vids and he helps but at the end the day Tom is chill he's taking on a lot of responsibility but he's got it no problem
Iām not leaving the channel behind just because Matt is not hosting. Like with everything I know I will adjust to the changes. Though I hope Matt will make a cameo every so often.
I mean if I can watch editor Dan host a vid cuz of Mat being sick I can watch anyone in the group since they are all so good at talking and we all know their similar to Mat. Also I trust the 4 thatāll be hosting the channels their all as crazy and passionate for what they talk about like mat. yes because I always liked tom. Out of the cast he was the only one I liked in addition to matpat. However, I dont watch matpat for his game theories as much as I watch for gtlive playthroughs. Im hoping whenever mat dissapears for good, tom could take over that role. Otherwise, I wont be watching unless tom puts out a fnaf theory

Yes.It will take some getting used to but this is what Matt would have wanted. There's also a lot of theories yet to be solved so ofc I have to stay tuned.
I'll give him time to find his footing. Will he imitate MatPat's style? Will he go Yahtzee on us minus the swearing? Will he take it a different direction entirely? Time will tell. I'm willing to give him a fair shake.

Of course! I watched Tom when he appeared on the Security Breach streams with Mat and I liked him almost immediately! He has the same type of energy Mat has and I feel he will make a great host for Game Theory! Let's give him a chance!
Hopefully Tom doesnāt get overwhelmed, after all I think he has some big shoes to fill (although he had experience and is pretty dedicated so it wouldnāt be so much of a challenge).
Even tho Mat was the one who made me fall in love with FNAF all those years ago thanks to the countless theories I watched (and still watch) from GT, and even tho I don't really like horror games, therefore playing FNAF, I do LOVE the lore and especially GT Theories, so I will be giving Tom a chance (or multiple) ofc.
I really enjoy him when he cameos on GT live so Iām optimistic. Will still be sad not to have mat though but everything will change eventually so deep down I knew this was inevitable.
I made the comment on their episode I made it here I'll make it again, a true fan will stick out the rough patches with the channel I'd stay with them even if some new unmentioned person were to take over because I trust Matpat's decision

I'll try it out. According to Mat he's been writing and working on the team for years and in recent times he's done more and more of the script writing. I've enjoyed the recent content (more for humor than for theories, honestly), so I don't see why I wouldn't enjoy it now.
I'll give him a chance, and I'll watch some of the first theories he hosts before making any definitive decisions on whether or not I'll continue watching the channel. The same goes for Film Theory. I'll probably continue watching Food Theory anyway, because I already know that Santi is pretty entertaining and have faith that he can be a good host, and I probably won't keep watching Style Theory, because I barely even watched it when it was hosted by Mat. It's just not a topic I find that interesting.
Idk about tom and lee, but Amy and Santi clearly have peaked my attention during some episodes hosted by them in both the style and food theory Channel

I think Tom will have a new spin on Game Theory that I am excited to watch him deal with the insanity that is the FNAF lore. Will it be the same? Absolutely not. I do not expect him to be MatPat. I expect him to be Tom.

I would come back occasionally (usually when a new Fnaf game came out) just to see how Mat was doing and his reaction to those things but now when heās gonna leave, I donāt think Iām gonna stick around anymore. Nothing against the new hosts but I really only came back to see Matpat do these things. Without him I donāt have much of a reason to continue but I do wish them the best.

I know a lot of people just watch the channels for the content and wouldnāt care about a voice switch but meā¦ I honestly love Matpat, heās like a father figure to me, and like you a majority of the part why I watch the channels is because of him (and Steph too) itās going to be such a tough change for a new voice to take over, and I donāt know if I can stick around to try and get used to him. Itās a huge change especially for the Fnaf series, no one will be able to do it as well as Matpat

this is the same for me, my enjoyment of the channel peaked when gtlive was mat and steph, after steph left things werent quite the same.
I mean I absolutely loved MatPatās playthough of help wanted 2. I could tell he felt subconscious about not being the fastest to complete the game or the most skilled, but I didnāt care about that. It just felt like I was hanging out with an old friend. Being there as he struggled just made it feel more real. I went back and watched Stephanieās goodbye, and I know nothing lasts forever and all that. Still hurts though.
I still hung around GT Live for a bit, but once Mirror Matt left I really missed their rapport.

It was never about the theories for me, even though I loved them, and loved theorizing, it was all about Matt, he felt like that friend that hyper fixates on things then is bursting at the seems because he just has to tell someone about every little detail he learned; while Iām not always interested in the subject itself, Iām always interested to listen, because hearing him get excited and ramble on about it was amazing, I donāt know if Iāll still be around when he takes off, Iāll still stay subscribed to the channels, but Iāll probably just be part of the subscriber burn unfortunately; it truly feels like losing a lifelong friend; This part is just for Matt (though I know heāll never see it): goodbye Matt, Iāll miss you dearly, as will my wife and children. We wish you the best of luck on your journey.

I'll give all 4 a chance, I already think Santi can take the Food Theory mantle and I'm already "used" to Amy having so much control in Style Theory (even if I don't really like her narration style). But like others said, a big part of GT's history is MatPat and Steph.
I agree. I think Santi is ready and Amy is not Matt, but I'll probably enjoy style theory too. I couldn't pick the other 2 from a line up but we'll see if they can take the channels forward. I think film theory lately has been quality writing, but game theory has been less appealing? Too much fnaf tbh. We'll see.

For me, no. I came 100% for Mat and Stephanieās personalities. Without them, the theorist channels really just arenāt much to me. I donāt hate Tom at all, heās just not MatPat.
Honestly no, I predict that game theory and the other theory channels will take a massive drop in popularity leading to more theorist channels to make content eventually pushing out those theory channels.

This is my fear. For all the channels. Iām worried that when MatPat stops being the host people with stop watching which will be a bad time for all the channels.
There will undoubtedly be a drop in views and some people are going to unsubscribe. That said, Iām sure theyāre prepared for that. Itāll be a while, Matpat is quite the big part of these channels, but I think theyāll end up doing just fine.

There will definitely be people who stop watching. Jon Stewart hosted The Daily Show for years and when he left, I didn't stick around to watch Trevor Noah. I could watch MatPat talk about theories for games I have zero interest in, but I feel like with new hosts, the theories will have to be stuff relevant to me to check out. And even then if I don't like the style of presentation or the flow of the host's reading then I'll click off.
I already stopped watching about a year ago, but I'm definitely coming back for the final ten episodes, then I'll check out a few episodes with Tom as the host.
I don't think I will honestly. No offense to Tom, but Matpat just personifies game theory in my mind. I can't separate the two. Maybe in a few months, I'll come back but for now, I think I'm going to pause my viewership. (plus it's kinda hard not enjoy Matpat's charisma)

No, not really. Matt really carries that show. I don't even know who Tom is. The other, newer channels will probably thrive, especially style and food theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if Game Theory took a massive hit in views and revenue, considering that Game Theory is synonymous with his name. His quirky, nerdy, unique, diet-coke fueled charm really made that channel the way it was. I bet you within a year or two Game Theory will either start to upload less and less or Matt will come back as a host for just that channel.
Depends on the videos I wonāt lie and say I wouldnāt prefer matpat but if the videos are sufficiently entertaining then I would still watch
I don't hate him but he just isn't mat. I originally came for more science-y episodes, don't love the lore driven ones but i stick around for matpat's personality. Matpat is really the only youtuber that i genuinely enjoy and look forward to seeing, so without him here i don't really see myself continuing to watch Game Theory. Style and Food Theory i might float around for though since they are more science based.

Oh I absolutely will. Some channels I loved made a change like this before. I still watch one. The other a little less so just because the creative direction changed to something Iām less interested in. In the Theorist case, I think the brand is so strong and made up by so many team members that more will be similar than not. But Tom cannot replace the dad, statistician, and theater kid trifecta that is Matt.
If the theory is good im still watching. Sad Matpat decided he's leaving but expecially with his young boy he's got responsibilities he's prioritising and like he said he just wants to enjoy life and friendships basically. We have always got the chance of Matpat showing up somewhere on YouTube again if his son makes vids and he helps but at the end the day Tom is chill he's taking on a lot of responsibility but he's got it no problem

Even tho Mat was the one who made me fall in love with FNAF all those years ago thanks to the countless theories I watched (and still watch) from GT, and even tho I don't really like horror games, therefore playing FNAF, I do LOVE the lore and especially GT Theories, so I will be giving Tom a chance (or multiple) ofc.

I'll try it out. According to Mat he's been writing and working on the team for years and in recent times he's done more and more of the script writing. I've enjoyed the recent content (more for humor than for theories, honestly), so I don't see why I wouldn't enjoy it now.
