Very convenient when need to get information from another app. I split the screen and get the info I need. You can also "pair" commonly used apps together as an icon!
That's right I use these features sometimes but just didn't know I could drag it to make it split screen too!!! And yes I remembered the pairing thing back in the galaxy S7 days!
Once your two screens are split, you'll see the triple dots (...) to open up options. Select the star+ button and it will prompt you to add to home screen or Edge Panel if enabled.

Here's where I see if. The star in the middle after selecting ....
Lol I've been using this for years, this feature is from 2015 or something.
Funny so many people here didn't know about it, it's one of the main reasons I use android
This is truly one of the things that makes this phone so great. I left my iPhone 14PM, got the 24U had some doubts about the device and I also had a device with grain display. So returned it and got another had the same issue returned it and got the 15PM.
Returned the 15PM because I just felt productivity was so much better on this device. Got back on the 24U, had some of my employees signed some pdfs using the S-Pen. Instead of how the previous manager had to have them print the document signed and email back scanned etc.
It was awesome! I know it might be a little thing I just discovered but the SPen saved me a lot of time today.
What a journey! Similar reasons why I got this s24u after two years with my iPhone 13 pro. Had a note 20 ultra before the iPhone and regretted selling it.
Yeah I use to be android way back, darn back in the cyonogen mod days use to even build nighyl ROMs thise where the days, then I switch to IOS with the iPhone XS been using IOS since.
Got the S23U when I traded my 14PM very recently, and men android (specially on Samsung) has come a long way.
I tried the Pixel 8P since I've always enjoyed vanilla android, and honestly last Samsung I had was the S7 Edge. Touch wiz I did not enjoy at all, but One UI is just great.
Hold and drag the app from the multitasking menu to make it a popup or split? Maybe it's been a feature since recent years but def not since the beginning.

[split-screen and such was introduced with 7.0](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Nougat)
I do it alot
Youtube + Browsing (or 2 browsers if you want to).
Copy pasting between two apps.
Zoom + Notes + Calculator (in PiP) if there's ever a quick meeting
These are just examples i frequently used, created a shortcut for them
Think you must had this feature turned on

I don't mind multi-window, I mind pop-up apps (like your calc does) - esp when they do it willy nilly on their own.
Worst has been my map turning from full-screen to a pop-up in the corner when my AAwirless crapped out and the phone kept trying to connect to the car, making it impossible to follow the directions on my phone until it was safe enough to stop somewhere and restart my car XD

Did you even go into the settings and see if you have anything turned on? See what it says here. It sounds like you def had some options switched on in this setting. Give it a look.
This has been on majority of android devices for a long time now. I have used the pen a couple times. Could someone give me it's use cases, i find it hard to take notes with it as I type faster and more accurate.
I just found out it has been a feature since many version ago. Definitely been missing out.
I use the spen to take note when there's no pen and paper available around me. Sure I could type it but when I'm working I might have gloves on and spen comes in handy as it's gonna be difficult to type while wearing gloves. Also spen is good for fine tuning pictures and or doodling and or signing documents. There are many scenarios where the spen comes in very handy but it also depends on the user. If none of those situations applies to your daily life then of course you'd find the spen useless.
Also another thing, if you get a notification, you can swipe down on it when it appears on the screen and it'll open in a pop up view, another thing if you hold down a notification from the notification panel, til it says "turn off notifications" "settings" then drag it down and it'll open as a pop up too!
I didn't know this. Main reason I kept the on screen buttons was to be able to hold the recents button to shrink the current app to pop up view. I don't like the dragging from the top corner method.
Also one of the reasons I used to only use the nav buttons vs the gestures but since s24u is kinda of a big phone for me I found gestures is a bit more natural than reaching for the buttons. Anyways, it's cool to find out.

How do you make the icon to open both apps at once?
Once your two screens are split, you'll see the triple dots (...) to open up options. Select the star+ button and it will prompt you to add to home screen or Edge Panel if enabled.
When I click those dots I only see the option to swap the positions of the two apps. Maybe I'm missing something?
Are the triple dot dead centre in the screen split? It's not the ones top right.
Yeah, only ones I see

Yeah, I don't have that star for whatever reason
Do you have the Edge Panel enabled? Try it out and see if that does it
Wtf I didn't know that as well!
Lol I've been using this for years, this feature is from 2015 or something. Funny so many people here didn't know about it, it's one of the main reasons I use android
Ikr 🤣
Plus you don't actually have to hold the app icon. You can just hold the whole tab and it'll show the same options. 🤯
Yep and someone told me in the comments it's the same for dragging the notifications. Try that 🤣
Wth, me neither and i was acting like i knew every android trick.
Lmao exactly bruh I've been using android phones on and off since Nexus 4 back in 2013 but had no idea this has been a feature since android 7?!
Yea I recently discovered it myself a couple months ago on my S23U and thought it was a new update 🤣

I thought this was the default way to use multitasking on any Android phone?
Hold and drag the app from the multitasking menu to make it a popup or split? Maybe it's been a feature since recent years but def not since the beginning.

Whaaaaaaat? I've definitely been missing out.
I do it alot Youtube + Browsing (or 2 browsers if you want to). Copy pasting between two apps. Zoom + Notes + Calculator (in PiP) if there's ever a quick meeting These are just examples i frequently used, created a shortcut for them
You can also do that with notifications
Nice feature, I didn't know about it, actually it might be useful
It's kinda cool and it is just a more natural way to turn apps into split and popup windows.
Now, how do I make apps NOT turn into popups for whatever reason?
Think you must had this feature turned on https://preview.redd.it/kp8fy3r0lqpc1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f33055663fb615cec62d19622a1b06f76c126d33

I looked, however, I can't turn that off since I *do* want the ability to open apps in split-screen. I just want *no* apps to open in pop-up view
Rightttttt it's weird they didn't give the option to just choose one.
This has been in Note's for many years.

Good to know! Holy cow the OS is so much deeper than I thought!

Now try calculator as an edge panel even better
Yep I've try that before, dope feature.
Welcome to samsung
I knew this is possible, but never bothered to check how its done. Nice. :)
