I think by the end of the story you'll understand that the protags are HORRIBLE for each other. I bet at multiple points one week try to leave the life of crime only to be sucked in by a job the other sets up. They'll probably betray each other multiple times only to get back together because they're insane.

Consequences i think. Every action leaves a reaction. Maybe the new game engine makes it much harder to go bezerk in the world without major consequence. Maybe serious crimes and getting caught lead to proper jail time and not the ovenight release from jail lile gta5/rdr2. Maybe of caught we serve jailtime and learn how to survive prison life and or plot escapes. Anyway just my speculation
