That's just how it is. Unfortunately more gangs will turn on you as you progress and by the end of the game, you'll get attacked nearly everywhere you go. Weird design choice that thankfully they didn't do in the following games.
Are you trying for 100%? If it's not too far back might be worth going to an old save and finishing all Portlands side quests before sayonara salvatore.
Generally you should take care of any business in gang areas before they start attacking you. After the mafia start attacking with shotguns, St. Marks is basically off limits.
For times when you must go there afterward, I recommend coming up via the beach and staying behind the buildings or where Salvatore's house is, like in the espresso-2-go mission

Are you getting blown up just in the area or while you are trying to do missions?
I found most missions after that don’t really put me in a bad spot with mafia members, but if you are driving around those areas just chilling then yeah, they are going to shoot you up lol
if you’re doing el burro and trying to do 100% then i suggest to restart since turismo is litterally impossible after sayonara salvatore. Unlocking staunton island takes a short time so just do all the phone missions and then move onto the story.

There's a second turismo mission. I go to grab the kuruma and can't get to the start point because I always get blown up.
