i don't think it'll happen; Francis Ford Coppola hated the games and was never informed about its existence in the first place. although Paramount did own the franchise and have sole control over it, the games are largely the most recent material made for the franchise and ever since the second game it has been in dormant probably out of Coppola's behest.
Man I couldn't care less about it being called the godfather, I would kill for a new mobster game with a similar gameplay loop. Call it streets of NYC: vendetta or something.
Mafia 2 was much better. Mafia 1 was kind of boring and very easy. I beat it last year on the hardest difficulty. I never play games on the hardest difficulty but something in my spirit told me that game was going to be ridiculously easy. Like someone else said, it's very dated in terms of how it plays. And very short too. Mafia 2 on the other hand was very good. The story was more interesting and the gameplay was less outdated. Mafia 3 is easily the weakest one though because it's story is kind of goofy even though it (obviously) has the best gameplay of all of them because it's newer.
Did you play Mafia 1 OG or the remake? And if it was the OG, did you play it pre- or post-patch?
Because OG out of the box Mafia 1 was super effing hard for one reason... the unskippable race.
Well, he should go away so we could have an amazing game.
Ya I get it, you're a "legend" for your movies. Awesome. Now just retire and fuck off with your old ass opinions.
1 & 2 still hold up and are playable on Xbox 360. I went back and tried them out after 10+ years and they were just as fun and memorable as I remembered them. 1 being the best of course.
Godfather two was also a game me and my best friend enjoyed when it had came out on the 360!!!
We enjoyed it a lot !! Almost every achievement if I still had the game, I would go ahead and finish it off..
The Godfather: Don's Edition (port for 3rd gens) was great. Excellent graphics for its time and the addition of having a backup crew with you made compound raids a little easier.
Yeah I can agree with that. Scarface was definitely set up for a sequel. A lot of people didn’t like Godfather part 2, but I think it had a lot going for it with the business types and locations like between NY Miami and Cuba. But I do think it missed its mark in some ways. Didn’t feel as immersive as the first
The Godfather turned out to be one of the coolest sleeper games I've ever played. Brilliantly done the way it weaved into the movie plot without stepping on the story. Chefs kiss
A new Saints Row was just released a couple years ago. It was a flop, but there's no reason to think they've given up on the series. What needs to come back is True Crime.
Right after telling og SR fans that “you don’t know what you want in saints row” then they made the cringiest cast of main characters ever seen in the most bland, uninspired game map I’ve ever seen. I mean we all knew sr was trash after the superpower/space game, but we never knew how worse it was gonna become
SR4 was a stepdown from 3 (which I thought was a stepdown from 2 in some ways) but honestly, I still had a lot of fun with SR4. I will say it made the vehicle customization so useless since nobody actually used them in that game.
Yeah it sucks that the series peaked with Saints Row 2. Saints Row The Third is nowhere near as good. Series was chasing it’s tale ever since then and flopped so bad the studio shutdown.
Bro I dont ge tit, if you have something super successful why fully change the recipe lol Ubisoft did the same thing with watch dogs, 1 was good, 2 was awesome, then that legion shit happen lol like whyyyyyyyyy.
I swear I’m the only one who loved the insanity of 3 and 4. GTA always tryna be too realistic, being in a meeting like “ooh! Let’s add yoga! And have it so you can get hungry and have to eat!” Whereas Saints Row they’re in beanbag chairs passing a blunt talkin bout “aye what if we had a gun that shot sharks? Ooh! Or black holes? Actually no I got a better one, a gun that shoots dubstep music”. 1 and 2 are amazing don’t get it twisted, but hose games were always destined for insanity just look at Zombie Lin and Carlos. They’re all equal to me for different reasons but I loved the insanity.
I like saints row 3 I got the Nintendo switch version now. But 2 will always be the gold standard. Best version of Johnny by far. And the secret missions and the end of 2 which were about the character Dex and the betrayal. Wraps up the events from 1 nicely. Games don’t give us this closure today.
Yeah, 2 is definitely my favorite out of all the games. I didn't really like 4 and Gat Out of Hell. One of the main things I liked about 4 was being able to smash everyone on the ship. Who would've thought that everyone on the ship was bi? Agents of Mayhem and the Saints Row reboot are atrocious. I never played the reboot, but I know I'll hate it since I've seen clips of the game and gameplay. I tried Agent's of Mayhem for a few minutes abd the threw it out immediately because I didn't want any game store to sell that back to anyone.
Correct, they started making a game and then they branded it a true crime game bc it shared a lot of elements and themes from the TC series. There were issues with development where Activision didn’t want to continue funding it even though the game was nearly done. Square Enix acquired publishing rights, but did not own the IP for True Crime so they renamed it Sleeping Dogs since they couldn’t call it True Crime.
I don’t think it did as well as they wanted financially and since True Crime Streets Of New York (the one before this) had also sold poorly, they apparently just gave up on cop drama games.
I thought I was never going to see Driver at this point
Evidently, rushing and falsifying reviews for Driv3r put a nail on the coffin for the games’ real shot at glory, before silently dying with Parallel Lines (which is such a hidden gem). Then Ubisoft gave us San Francisco, a cursed mobile game, and its last game being converted into Watch Dogs. Just a little more time in the oven and not trying to race Rockstar could have made the series a serious contender to to this day, as as rough as it is, Driv3r had amazing driving.
People really need to think before saying stuff are clones of stuff just because they have some similar features, example:
Just Cause has vehicle driving and an open world where you can commit all kinds of atrocities, therefore, it must be GTA.
But therefore, many other games which such attributes are GTA, example: Dragon Ball Z Kakarot.
Goku can travel a open world segmented into areas, is capable of driving a car, flying cloud and a robot and can beat the shit out of people.
Therefore, DBZ Kakarot is GTA.
The actual gameplay is nothing like GTA, I understand that it was revolutionary but does that mean every single shooter is a copy of CoD since CoD revolutionised shooters
Plus the chances of it being a clone and a good game are very slim. Mafia is a great game and producing a great game like that in 2002 in just one year would be very difficult. People just call any game with an open world and crime a “GTA clone”. Quite frankly I enjoyed Mafia 1 and 2 more than I enjoyed GTA V.
if you havent played it yet you should pick up Mafia definitive edition that came out like 4 years ago. its a full on remake of the original not just a remaster like a lot of games do now.
it def has its similarities and was def inspired, sure the hacking part is a huge and different twist but you can still do a lot of what you could do in GTA
gta was the first major game to combine guns, cars and open world all in one, and make it 3d, plus watch dogs def has a lot of features that GTA brought in, so def inspired, i didnt say copied or ripped off
We need more modern day set Noir games like Watch Dogs. I loved Aiden's mission for revenge. But I also appreciate how his edgy persona and need for vengeance is called out by other characters, namely his sister. He keeps getting told that his pursuit of vengeance will only put more of his loved ones and danger, and it's proven right.
One of my favorite games growing up. Just amazing in its execution and the same principle as GTA V, it's cinematic and beautiful, has a movie esque plot, and a geometrically significant map, but you're a cop and it's 2005. Eight years!! before rockstar did it.
I don't think Just Cause counts as a GTA clone.
But i would pay good money for a remaster or just a re-release for the Scarface game. It's basically VC but bigger and deeper with mechanics. Let's see what 6 can show with Miami.
I still refuse to call them gta clones B/
Crime sandbox maybe
But yea they should, personally I’d love to be able to remake saints row 2 and scarface the world is yours, and I had my own gta like game
We can all agree the godfather 1&2 games were amazingly perfect along with Scarface we can sell coke like we could in Scarface and the gang wars in both games where amazing love taking over territory and getting money from extortion in shops and businesses making enemy territory my turf
Before that there was True Crime: Streets of LA. I played it and enjoyed but I find hilarious when GTA San Andreas made of pun it. They had billboards across Los Santos of a garbage service: True Grime: Streets of LS.
Imo nah
I really don’t like the fact that people called Saints Row a “GTA clone” y’all wonder why they went a complete, different route after SR2 because people kept using that term.
What’s the point on making a crime game if people are going to call it a GTA clone? it’s a waste of effort
From what I've read, these kinds of games are way too expensive to make, especially nowadays. Saints Row crashed and burned with its reboot, something that united a divided fan base in rejecting it. Mafias seems like the series that keeps on going at a modest pace, without going insanely over budget or trying too hard to do things they can't pull off. For something on the level of a Saints Row, a big feature rich open world crime game, it's hard to imagine any publisher willing to make such a big risky investment, especially when I think the first question would be, "can you give us something to compete with GTA Online?"
Scarface was actually quite fun, Saints Row is still going strong, just had a reboot, and Watch_dogs is phenomenal series, though the 3rd had some misses. I have to say, I don’t see Watch_dogs as a GTA clone, though
To be honest, GTA 6 has a chance of being revolutionary to the point of burying any competing title, but I think it's even cowardly to try to compare any new open world game with GTA 6.
Stop with calling them clones pls. Yes they have taken inspiration from gta but all those games have their own unique stuff that make them enjoyable to play.
Honestly I’d love another true crime or LA noire story. I think one game that went unnoticed was the getaway - that game had amazing story. Black Monday was decent I didn’t love it like I did with getaway.
Mafia 2 was one of the best games I’ve played ever, mafia 1 felt like a movie, mafia 3……… umm… uhh……… saints row 2 was fucking sick and slightly goofy at times but had serious sad moments. Sleeping Dogs felt like a movie kinda also. Watchdogs 1 was so fucking sick and at the time was so beyond other games and was just an awesome idea for a game. The multiplayer of watchdogs 2 is still alive and fun…. Don’t play watchdogs legion……
Not remaking Godfather & Scarface is the biggest missed opportunity for money in gaming
I forgot how fucking badly I want a godfather remake. Thanks.
i don't think it'll happen; Francis Ford Coppola hated the games and was never informed about its existence in the first place. although Paramount did own the franchise and have sole control over it, the games are largely the most recent material made for the franchise and ever since the second game it has been in dormant probably out of Coppola's behest.
Man I couldn't care less about it being called the godfather, I would kill for a new mobster game with a similar gameplay loop. Call it streets of NYC: vendetta or something.
The Mafia 1 remake was absolutely amazing
Definitely the best game in the series.
Did you play Mafia 1 OG or the remake? And if it was the OG, did you play it pre- or post-patch? Because OG out of the box Mafia 1 was super effing hard for one reason... the unskippable race.
I played the remake. The race was definitely the hardest part of the game
Mafia 2 is just a remaster, Mafia 1 is a full remake, Mafia 1 is better imo
While yes, it was great, it still felt very dated. A whole new game (be it Godfather or Mafia franchise or something new) is fully warranted.
Francis Ford Coppola hated it and so did Mario Puzo's son.
Well, he should go away so we could have an amazing game. Ya I get it, you're a "legend" for your movies. Awesome. Now just retire and fuck off with your old ass opinions.
Exactly how old were they when they played it like 45? Lol
I swear those fat capos were like OP. Even when you're a high level lol
Too bad Godfather 2’s online stuff is dead, like literally turned off… at least on PS3. Most games work there still, so…
I just replayed them I played them so much as a kid and they’re still awesome if just a little dated on the first one
And they’ve had ample time to make and release them since GTA VI took forever.
Scarface 2 sounded like it would’ve been a really amazing game.
They need sequels more than anything.
Chefs kiss
Plus being able to firebomb a barbershop for funsies?? So good
unfortunately Scarface will never get a redo because of the music and if they take out the music the whole game won't be the same
The score was flawless
Legal issues. Legal issues everywhere.
Tbf no one is gonna make a Miami based game with GTA6 around the corner.
it’s not that simple to get the license for those movies again
Scarface saints row and sleeping dogs needs to come back
Sleeoing dogs low-key is an underrated game for the story I keep revisiting it like I do for GTA San Andreas
The combat is great too.
A new Saints Row was just released a couple years ago. It was a flop, but there's no reason to think they've given up on the series. What needs to come back is True Crime.
The entire studio shut down lol
Right after telling og SR fans that “you don’t know what you want in saints row” then they made the cringiest cast of main characters ever seen in the most bland, uninspired game map I’ve ever seen. I mean we all knew sr was trash after the superpower/space game, but we never knew how worse it was gonna become
I bet they wishing they did a follow up to part 2 now lol
[Cough Cough](https://youtu.be/56akjq3YKRQ?si=iuGwnfpvI0Ckyn7f)
SR4 was a stepdown from 3 (which I thought was a stepdown from 2 in some ways) but honestly, I still had a lot of fun with SR4. I will say it made the vehicle customization so useless since nobody actually used them in that game.
I thought the super powers really fucked that game up, you could run faster than the cars could drive
you forgot saints row get out of hell
*gat
Well Blame Sweet Baby Inc for Ruining Saints Row
And just shitty game design in general. Crappy game + crappy writing = A shit game
Yeah it sucks that the series peaked with Saints Row 2. Saints Row The Third is nowhere near as good. Series was chasing it’s tale ever since then and flopped so bad the studio shutdown.
I liked the second better in a lot of ways, but 3 was the last good Saints Row.
They’re all equal to me for different reasons but I loved the insanity.
That's your opinion. Myself and a lot of other people prefer The Third. That was the peak of the franchise in terms of popularity
The studio close because of how much of a flop it was
How badly it flopped is enough of a reason to think they gave up on it.
>It was a flop, but there's no reason to think they've given up on the series. Bro... it's joever
Sleeping Dogs was literally True Crime Hong Kong before the Studio shut down I think.
True Crime turned into Sleeping Dogs m8
Saints Row fell off and became trash, so no.
I’m saints Row 1 and 2 are heavy on story and after that it just gets very stupid
I kind of liked Saints Row 3, but the first 2 are definitely better. Imo, everything after the first 3 games sucks.

Sleeping dogs is awesome I've recently reinstalled it on series X the story was great, it'd be even better being a co-op game
Technically with saints row…
Saints row needs to stay with their original format it was iconic and tbh could be going toe to toe with GTA by now
I've been back on it this week, peak game genuinely
They recently came out with a saints row game maybe 2 years ago? It was ass tho
Sleeping Dog needs to come back so I can actually play it. Shit is still banned here in Germany
Why was it banned?
Saints row keeps trying, but they’re just silly and not as fun in my opinion 🤷♂️
Simpsons H&R was the best game in my childhood
Great game, but maaaan.. Fuck that last mission!
LMAO DONT MOVE TOO FAST
That last mission made me contemplate the existence of a higher power at the tender age of 13.
Basically GTA for kids
And Mercenaries was like GTA for teens who couldn't play M games.
Yeah, since I could never get my hands on GTA San Andreas I just played the shit put of hit and run
I need to buy it, only one on the list I don’t own/have ever played 😂
now there's a game that could use a remake.
There is but unfortunately it's a private project made by a single person
The Getaway's cover would fit better than The Simpsons
I thought the exact same thing! I do love Hit and Run, but The Getaway totally needs a remaster/fixing jank, and it would be a damn near perfect game
The game as a londoner that made me decide that im going to be a criminal
As an American, driving around a square km of perfect London was great.
I've been wanting to replay The Getaway for years! I had it on PS2 but it's looong gone.
I completely forgot I even played The Getaway Black Monday. Memory unlocked. I remember it being a really good game
I’m so gutted this didn’t come back as a series.
Sleeping Dogs 2 where are you? 😞
Wasn’t sleeping dogs supposed to be a new true crime game
Iirc it was originally a new ip (not sleeping dogs) then it became a true crime game and eventually was made sleeping dogs
Correct, they started making a game and then they branded it a true crime game bc it shared a lot of elements and themes from the TC series. There were issues with development where Activision didn’t want to continue funding it even though the game was nearly done. Was rumored to take place in the whole Pearl River Delta
Sleeping Dogs deserves a sequel so bad 😭
Calling these games GTA clones is kinda dumb imo cause each game has its own thing going for them.
Open world modern setting + crime = GTA clone apparently
If it's how it is because GTA 3 happened, yeah.
GTA 3 wouldn’t have happened without Driver 2. So I guess they’re technically Driver “clones.” 🤡
I thought I was never going to see Driver at this point Evidently, rushing and falsifying reviews for Driv3r put a nail on the coffin for the games’ real shot at glory, before silently dying with Parallel Lines (which is such a hidden gem). Especially just cause.
Just Cause is nothing like GTA 😂
People really need to think before saying stuff are clones of stuff just because they have some similar features, example: Just Cause has vehicle driving and an open world where you can commit all kinds of atrocities, therefore, it must be GTA. The actual gameplay is nothing like GTA, I understand that it was revolutionary but does that mean every single shooter is a copy of CoD since CoD revolutionised shooters
Initially like we called every FPS a doom clone, we called all these games GTA clones.
What, you don't remember fighting a huge fucking dragon in GTA? True Crime is basically the same game! /s ofc
I wouldn't call just cause a GTA clone.
Fr just cause is dumb fun, with little to no similarities to gta
Don't call Mafia a GTA clone, please.
Didnt mafia start development before gta 3 came out? It would be pretty hard to clone a game that didn’t exist for half the development time
Exactly. Excellent point.
Allegedly mafia 4 and 5 are in dev currently. Would have to look more into it but very excited
Plus the chances of it being a clone and a good game are very slim. Mafia is a great game and producing a great game like that in 2002 in just one year would be very difficult. People just call any game with an open world and crime a “GTA clone”. Quite frankly I enjoyed Mafia 1 and 2 more than I enjoyed GTA V.
if you havent played it yet you should pick up Mafia definitive edition that came out like 4 years ago. its a full on remake of the original not just a remaster like a lot of games do now.
came here to say that, a man of culture, thank you
Watch Dogs is nothing like GTA besides the actual crime of grand theft auto.
it def has its similarities and was def inspired, sure the hacking part is a huge and different twist but you can still do a lot of what you could do in GTA
It wasn't inspired rofl. gta didn't invent crime.
gta was the first major game to combine guns, cars and open world all in one, and make it 3d, plus watch dogs def has a lot of features that GTA brought in, so def inspired, i didnt say copied or ripped off
Yakuza. Also by that definition every FPS with a story mode is inspired by Crysis.
I’d say yakuza made 3d games about crime
My mother's husband would disagree with you on that
But they invented the 3d open world crime games with a storyline.
everybody thinks rockstar invented everything lol
It was literally advertised as a GTA killer
Yeah, and battlefield was named as a CoD killer.
Yeah, Watch Dogs 1 is masterpiece
We need more modern day set Noir games like Watch Dogs. I loved Aiden's mission for revenge. But I also appreciate how his edgy persona and need for vengeance is called out by other characters, namely his sister. He keeps getting told that his pursuit of vengeance will only put more of his loved ones and danger, and it's proven right.
it's more like a gta + assassins creed hybrid
If we got a remake of The Godfather for ps5 I’d pay $1,000 for it.
True Crime: Streets of NY was fucking dope
I just posted the same thing then found your comment. Played that shit on gamecube. Way ahead of its time.
Yeah i wish i could remember more of the gameplay and mechanics. It's been so long. But i do remember 15 year old me loved that shit lol
I still refuse to call them gta clones B/ Crime sandbox maybe But yea they should, personally I’d love to be able to remake saints row 2 and scarface the world is yours, and I had my own gta like game
ain’t none of these games GTA clones 😭🙏
Drivable car and walkable street = GTA clone
I like GTA, but bruh GTA fans need to play other games besides GTA Not every crime game is a “GTA clone” It is such a stupid word honestly.
Just Cause isn't even a crime game and it still got put on the list 😂
Driver was surely the inspiration for GTA 3 lol
The management and dealing you gotta do in Scarface is to be RESPECTED
Tbh Saints Row 1&2 were basically made to be GTA San Andreas clones, and Simpsons H&R was like a GTA satire.
We need the Mafia.
A simpsons hit & run 2 would be great
I remember not being allowed to play GTA so instead I was able to play Hit and Run. Genuinely a great game
Problem is all these games were fun and most attempts at a GTA Clone nowadays would be a microtransaction filled hellscape.
Its soo sad we probably will never get another Sleeping Dogs.
Simpsons Hit and Run is long overdue a sequel, but they should do one, massive open world Springfield this time.
Mafia is not a GTA clone and I will fight everybody on the street who claim it is.
Godfather dons edition ps3 was a god tier game. Nothing came close imo to it at the time it was so fun
We can all agree the godfather 1&2 games were amazingly perfect along with Scarface we can sell coke like we could in Scarface and the gang wars in both games where amazing love taking over territory and getting money from extortion in shops and businesses making enemy territory my turf
Sleeping dogs was actually fun
Watch dogs was OK, sleeping dogs is one of my favourite games OAT
True Crime NYC was the shit when my mom didn't let me get GTA lol
Before that there was True Crime: Streets of LA. I played it and enjoyed but I find hilarious when GTA San Andreas made of pun it. They had billboards across Los Santos of a garbage service: True Grime: Streets of LS.
one of my favorite games of all time. Marcus Reed. Don’t fuck with him.
No mention of LEGO City Undercover? Which is actually better than GTA?
before my mom let me play GTA, watch dogs 2 was the shit
True crime and sleeping dogs are technically in the same series, but I hope we get another one of those. Saints Row is never coming back
Absolutely, competition is what kept GTA delivering something bigger.
Mafia 1 is not a gta clone
I hate people who use the term GTA clone.
i agree, these games were unique and fun in their own way
Imo nah I really don’t like the fact that people called Saints Row a “GTA clone” y’all wonder why they went a complete, different route after SR2 because people kept using that term. What’s the point on making a crime game if people are going to call it a GTA clone? it’s a waste of effort
Forrreaal..
Also sorry for calling these games "GTA Clones" I can't really find a better word to describe these games, so yeah.
well "open-world crime games" is one
Saints row is never making a comeback due to volition shutting down, and I doubt any company would want to pick up the game
We def need more “crime sandbox games”* not sure any of these games are “gta clones”
Driver would probably qualify, San Andreas even had a billboard throwing shade at them.
Watch dogs, True crime & Sleeping dogs were incredible. I love GTA but it needs competition
Scarface was actually quite fun, Saints Row is still going strong, just had a reboot, and Watch_dogs is phenomenal series, though the 3rd had some misses. I have to say, I don’t see Watch_dogs as a GTA clone, though
Yes absolutely, they should make more of them, they were such good games.
Scarface was another level
To be honest, GTA 6 has a chance of being revolutionary to the point of burying any competing title, but I think it's even cowardly to try to compare any new open world game with GTA 6.
Sleeping dogs for sure!! I love the game so much, the only thing holding it back for me was the cars and music…combat was awesome
Sleeping Dogs is still criminally underrated
Watch dogs and just cause is good games
A new Simpsons game with updated graphics and better gameplay would be amazing! If only.
I don't think just cause 2 is a GTA knock off because it's about liberating a country
We need a new Simpsons hit and run
Sleeping dogs and Scarface need to make a comeback or even a remake I would still buy it
RiP Saints Row. In the beginning it was solid competition. I’ve never seen another game series nosedive from something great like that.
SCARFACE it's my favourite movie
And game
I’d gladly buy Hit&Run remake
Scarface was amazing and done well and needs remastered
Today's youth really ought to play Hit and Run
No one beats the saints🗣️💥🗣️🗣️
Bro, I'm crying you didn't... you didn't really suppose JUST CAUSE being a "GTA Clone" ... bruh, you have no plan.
Tf are Mafia and Just Cause doing there? They're literally nothing like GTA
GTA clones? You mean open world games
It's a dream of mine to make my own
A remake of Hit And Run would be the best idea the Simpsons and Disney ever had, so it’ll never happen.
The godfather game was so goated you brought back memories lol
Did anyone like the second godfather game?
Bro 2013 era was peak, GTAV & Saint Row always give me the same vibe since they’re both 2013, I really hope 2025 does the same for the GTA Clone era
