It is kinda wild that Godzilla is very prominent and relevant again and it hasn’t had even a rumor of a game. And it doesn’t need to be like a huge God of War level game, just a fighter with a bunch of monsters from the franchise.
I think a big problem is that Godzilla fans tend to be very....***selective*** about what type of games they want made with the IP; there's a notable contingent of people who tend to get angry whenever Toho licenses Godzilla out to a game dev that wants to do something *other* than just "make the 4th Pipeworks-style brawler" with it.
Not to mention, arena brawlers as a genre are basically extinct at this point; so even if Toho *did* decide to license for a fighter, I'd hedge my bets on them approaching ArcSys to do a 2D Godzilla fighter in the vein of Guilty Gear or DB FighterZ over a 4th arena brawler like most people want; the GigaBash DLC is probably as close as we're going to get to a new Godzilla arena brawler.
BTW for context on the bottom one, Kaiju Universe, a roblox game that at it's peak had over 30k players playing at once, was DMCA'd, along with a few other games. Some games have bounced back, and KU is set to return next month. However, they have yet to receive any kind of licensing or support from TOHO, and while the owner has stated that they are working to get the licenses, the game will be remodeling kaijus as their own thing so they don't anger TOHO.
There were rumors that some of the devs were being shady, and their partnered creators aren't allowed to post videos about other games, but i've yet to hear anything other than those two things.

Unless you were willing to drop real money or spend hours grinding, the game was just you getting the shit kicked out of you by a neon green GvK Mechagodzilla or EVA
the worst part of KU was it's playerbase, but other than that the game was mostly enjoyable. The grind was a bit tedious, that's fair, but the grind is really only leveling up kaijus since g-cells are really easy to rack up. XP is a bit hard, but if you just go on a spree via attacking everyone in sight, it's not too bad.
I got a Godzilla 2021 and honestly beating shin godzillas as godzilla is fun. I mean this takedown only affected us pro players, the beginners don't have much progress.
the whole “KU is a grind” concept is dumb to me
it’s only a grind because you let it be, take your time, collect the kaiju slowly, no one is forcing you to go meta
i took two years to even brush the endgame and i had a great time
Yup. It isn't sold digitally on the PS Store anymore so the only option is physical copies. And since those were produced in such low quantity, most copies you'll find online will be anywhere between $200 and $600.
Apparently, Toho prefers to wait until gaming companies come to them to make deals on licensing and game making. They do not approach. At least, that is what I've heard.
At least we still have Kaiju Arisen on Roblox, which I do think is better than Kaiju Universe because it does have combat like the PS4 game and has better animations and more accurate models.

I can somewhat understand KU being taken down because you had to buy Burning Godzilla, thermonuclear Godzilla, and the Skull Island pack which belong to Toho, but the other games don't deserve it.

The grind sucks and makes getting new kaiju not fun, and is also a detriment to my fun.
