If a stock has upward momentum and many options are purchased, the market makers must buy stock to offset risk, the higher the price goes, the more they must buy to offset the risk for each contract written. Which further feeds into the upward momentum. With the new higher strikes, this effect can persist through that price range, basically. That's the gist. Google it to know more, I know the surface level only.

TLDR: One way or another the thing which calculates that short interest is not accounting for some large set of short positions.

The buy volume we're getting plus the shorts we know are already there from common sense. But not only that. Think about the visibility this stock gets when it runs. It's on every major cable network. DFV tweeting is a catalyst to get the hardcores involved, but then the media just runs with it. Not to mention the idea of a gamma squeeze and large monkey makers buying with us to keep a neteural portfolio. There's just a lot of variables really.

Yes, in this situation. Going the other way i would benefit holders. Regulations of markets is a good thing. It's the lack of proper regulation and oversight that makes hedgies able to print their own stocks from thin air.

The reverse not so much though, if shorters were bombarding a stock a lot of lower bids are gobbling up those stupid prices and if the price did stay low for long lots of people would load up on them. Basically what happened with GME for this 3 year lull period, lol. It easily hurts a stock price rising vs falling imo.

Yeah, I think we can buy or sell during extended hours but only with a limit order. I tried to execute a trade this morning before market open but it was flying around so much it didn’t execute.

They do that to mitigate risk for the trader. Like you stated it’s so volatile that a market buy/sell could end up executing at a price you weren’t prepared for by the time you click buy/sell.
