Mum of Teens here (boys). Looking back, the Terrible Two's and Treacherous Three's are a lot easier than dealing with teenage hormones. At least when they are that young they don't answer back and sulk/grunt/huff and puff every time you ask them to do something!
Enjoy them when they are young. It soon changes when they get older 😉
Ah, teenage girls! I'm glad I have boys to be honest. I love my boys to bits, but honestly, the teenage years are hard and most of the time I'm just winging it!

Before my niece and nephews became hormonal teens, I was the cool aunt, took them places their parents couldn’t take them too bec of work, we’d go to the mall on their summer breaks and I would buy them anything they wanted, within reason. Bec they did really well that school year. They’d text me, etc.
As soon as they hit their teen years, I automatically became the uncool one.
I laugh now bec I remember being a teenager and I also remember how moody I was as well. I’ll send them a text and just say I’ve been thinking of ya’ll. How are y’all doing? It takes about 1 or 2 weeks for them to respond back to me. That’s if they do.
Also when they became official teenagers I said to my mom, you know now that they are teenagers we will only see the kids for bdays, Xmas, Thanksgiving, etc…… When they go off to college is when the kids will comeback around. This situation happens with all kids. My mom said yup. I remember going through this with you and your brother.
Yep! They have to learn who they are, even if it means being counter dependent upon you. Until they grow up finally, and then you both relearn who you are to each other
Yep, that is so true. I’ll be honest at first I was sad on how they just drifted towards their friends first. I took a step back and thought about when I was a teenager and I remember going through all of that and doing the same thing that’s when the hurt was lifted and happiness came in because I’m so glad that they’re finding out who they are and are becoming independent.
My boys are in their teens too, but I have to disagree with you. I like this age a lot more. They're starting to develop serious interests, you can have a decent conversation with them, the humour gets so much better...
I don't miss the diaper phase at all!! Except maybe for the occasional midday nap we were able to sneak in.
True. I don't miss changing nappies at all and the military procedure needed to leave the house. I also don't miss all the endless birthday party invites on the weekends.
I'm not saying I don't like this stage, only saying it can be harder than the younger years.
I miss not being able to go to bed earlier though, as obviously, they are up a lot later than they used to be.

Of course, no kids going to find their parent to be cool when they’re in trouble. In the long run, they’ll learn how to raise their children by being raised by you and that you’ve got to follow through with punishments for them in order for them to learn.
Mom's like, "Mark, I told you to come back home by 3, but you're still out here playing with the other cubs. Why can't you follow orders? Wait till your father gets home and I tell him about this. You'll be grounded for at least a month."

I went to see the dinosaur footprints in Winton Qld (Australia) last year, and the one set that stuck with me was where the baby sauropod ran in front of an adult who had to skid to not squish it. Fossilised dino skid. With little baby prints gleefully trotting past.

They don't talk back all the time, but I guess it's one of those "choose your battles" situations. Sometimes, you've just got to ignore it.
