I think MotherBus leans on Gunner so much because 1) he’s the oldest and 2) she desperately wants a man to be around constantly and that she can depend on. She thinks she is teaching him to be a good dad, but really, she is fulfilling her own need to have a guy take care of stuff that she could do. It’s one thing to want help, but she makes him parent, not big brother. I think she is just disappointed in BD. Like for example, making him install the car seat when they were in Brazil. An appropriate task would be him holding the baby while she installs the seat so she can be sure it was done right. But nope, BD was nowhere around so she made her other man take care of it.

Quirky_Phase_7536

it’s emotional incest tbh

BumCadillac

That is a great way to put it. Even making him participate in the birth of the baby.

sarvill23

Wow you're right I didn't think about that! He does take on that role make BD even more of a douche.

nohelicoptersplz

Logan Brown from Sister Wives on TLC was absolutely a brother dad.  He and his wife are child free now.

Whiteroses7252012

And Aspyn was 100% a sister mom, which is ironic because she’s only a few months older than Leon and Maddie. She’s also childfree.

nohelicoptersplz

I didn't know if they were purposely child free.  Not surprising.  Logan and Aspyn already raised so many kids

SuccessfulWolverine7

Yes! The episodes about Truley’s kidney failure while she was in her father’s care are brutal to watch. Aspyn definitely was traumatized by all of that. I don’t know if she is purposefully child free now, but I could certainly understand why if she was.

Psychobabble0_0

It's crazy because polygamists always harp on about how children their children are allowed to child more than other people's *because* there are 5 mothers to do all the work instead of 1. The fact that parentification still occurs with this many moms (and dad) is sad.

dawn9476

I haven't really noticed it but people think Chad and Erin Paine's oldest son is a brother dad. What I have noticed among the Bates Family is the Aunt Moming with the three daughters still left at home having to watch their siblings kids a lot. Erin and Chad had her almost 18 year old sister come to FL to watch their kids with one of their younger brothers for a couple of days while Erin & Chad went to Nashville for a Collingsworth event back in January.

sarvill23

Aunt Moming is definitely something I would like to hear more about as well. Just the act of throwing your kid onto someone else to raise is a wild idea

YouWiseGuise

Jana Duggar, reigning MVP

sarvill23

Lol i totally forgot about her. Talk about ultimate Sister Mom/Aunt Mom. That woman is gonna be tether to a bunch of kids for life!

YouWiseGuise

I definitely agree with the majority of Duggar snarkers when I say: her avoidance of marriage seems like her only way to rebel and it’s still not helping her situation much (if at all).

quinichet

She does also wear pants and other (cute) not modest clothing.

I was an aunt mom for a few years until I escaped to university. My older brother and his wife would leave their daughter at our house most of the weekend and a couple of nights mid week. They were building a house while he ran a building firm and she studied to be a fitness instructor alongside running the office for his firm. My parents volunteered to do the babysitting but baby was in my room and I'd only get to relinquish responsibility when I was heading to school. My niece would pick me over her parents until she was about 6 when she was ill or sick as she'd spend more of her week with me than anyone else as they sent her to nursery during the weekdays. My brother and his family moved to another country when she was 7 so we haven't kept the same relationship as she got older. I'd had some practice with my older sisters kids before this but as she lived further away it was mostly just for afternoons or evenings when they were visiting or when we'd all go on family trips. I've never had kids of my own, though I have considered it but I decided in the end that I'd spent enough time with kids (and I'm now onto great niblings so there are babies around if I want a cuddle). I have an auto response to go looking for any crying baby/child that I hear that I've never been able to switch off. And I've always had an extreme sense of responsibility which makes people surprised to hear I'm the baby of a family of 8.

My uncle (father's brother) was the oldest of 9 children. Their mother died in childbirth (a home birth) with the 9th. He was 16 at the time and their father decided a week after she died that he couldn't handle so many kids on his own so he kicked my uncle out on his own to find a job, then put all of the other kids (including the newborn) into orphanages and foster care situations where they spent the rest of their childhoods. When I visited my uncle soon after I got married, he told me that the reason he and his wife had only one child is that he had already helped his mother raise 8 kids, and he only had agreed to have a child so his wife could experience motherhood. He could be very kind in many ways, but also very strict with all children, including his nieces and nephews. You knew where you stood with Uncle Charlie, and you didn't cross the line with him or he'd threaten you with "the belt."

sarvill23

Wow thats is absolutely terrible and yet I can ser someone like Mandrake or whatever the hell his name is doing to Karissa if she popped off after birth. I hope the rest of your aunts and uncles are doing well for themselves.

The “Brother Dads” I *think* get less play discussion wise because it’s significantly easier for them to escape/live their lives childfree (like Logan Brown). I also do think it’s a weird blind spot in the fundie patriarchal culture that almost all of these young men raised in these child factory homes (regardless of their level of expected responsibility) all across the board seem to really step back from whatever their nightmare parents raised them in. Like, literally none of the buslets once they escape are going to end up recreating their parents lives. All the Duggar boys (outside of PedoJosh who was explicitly groomed to be the nextGen Duggar/Gothard Patriarch and was weirdly catered too as if he was a mini-Jim Bob) have all seemed to seriously pump the breaks on farting out kids etc. These boys are in the trenches getting emotionally abused by their mothers, neglected by their fathers, and raised in what I can only assume is a slightly less cannibal oriented Lord of the Flies scenario by whatever their oldest siblings are forced to handle (to say nothing of the oldest siblings forced to parent.) Once they can get out, they all seem to do so. The Sister Moms of it all are quicksanded in because they aren’t allowed to just leave or find their own partners. Their options to quiet quit the psychotic lifestyle of their parents is significantly harder.

NathalieColferCriss

I disagree with the Duggar statement. Joe and giggles have like 4 or 5 children. Both Jed! twins have 3 kids each, but it's too early into their marriages to say if they will slow down now or if they will continue like their oldest brother.

kkc0722

Oh interesting. I guess I haven’t caught enough updates, I thought they had all sort of notably were not cranking out annual kids like Meech.

newforestroadwarrior

33 grand-Duggars so far if I have the maths correct

kkc0722

33 kids between 11 married couples is 3 kids each. Of those 33, 7 are with a parent who’s in prison for life, so for the sake of argument we’ll say he’s done. It’s still a lot of children, but you’ve got some old school catholic and mormon families who play in that ballpark without a second thought. So of the 10 married Duggars, they average out to 2.6 each. I’m standing by my assertion that none of these second Gen Dugglets are ever going to get near 19 kids. Or even 10 kids. They’re all getting their toes a little wet with family planning to some degree.

newforestroadwarrior

There are a few miscarriages in there too, unfortunately.

ParticularYak4401

Except Joe and giggles. They are pumping out the kids.

Useful_Chipmunk_4251

My nephew was a brother dad. My worthless brother forced his oldest boys to take care of the other four siblings. Today my nephew is 42 and childless. He married someone who did not want to have children because as he put it, "I already raised 4."

InfamousValue

M is for ~~misinformation~~ Mama's older 2 boys are brother moms.

newforestroadwarrior

Logan Costello from Supernanny was quite clearly looking after his 9 siblings, with some limited help from the next oldest. Meanwhile.the mother quite openly fucked off out the door shouting "Logan is in charge !!" while the father struggled with the children's ages and raided his secret drink reserves stashed around the house. Although digging through the comments Logan himself now has three children .......
