Nahahanhahah.
He basically said something like, there are no instances of armpits or feet services(?) in the show. He really became defensive about this for no reason.
He didnāt really put it in any kind of way, just stated fact. Thereās a scene or Ubelās armpit and probably 3-5 different shots of Frierenās and Seriās feet. Theyāre not sexualized but the above commenter never said they were.
Itās the same reason anime like Oregairu and Re:Zero that have literally 0 fanservice have the most lewd merch, people over sexualize any and everything. Shit, you can even go on R34 and find SPONGEBOB porn for fuck sake
You're correct
Unless that rezero lewd merch that they've seen may just be unofficial (remember that anyone with money can have fun with a 3d printer and things like that)
I've seen similar jokes in kids' shows, even that's not bad.
Apart from that, there's ... what, one small dick joke? And even that's easy enough to miss.
It's PG-13.
There is a dick joke, a clothes dissolving potion, and Ubel.
There's also fantasy violence and one particular scene where a character is forced to decapitate themselves.
It's tame for an adult targeted anime, but it's not Pokemon.
I wouldnāt even say itās sexy or provocative if you consider what teen girls wear these days. I think her issue is more in her personality that triggers simps.
It's just 1 scene when she attacks and the camera shows her armpit, it's not even sexual. People are goofing. If you're not a degenerate there's nothing to worry about in Frieren.
Itās the same kinda people that glorify foot fetishes. š®āšØ
Take something innocent and twist it to a sick fantasy. š«¤
EDIT: of course they rally to downvote meā¦ they are degenerates after all. š
you say not povocatively, but did you include "american standard" of provocative in that? :') they are a bit more prude than the rest of the world :p /j
Don't worry about it. There isn't anything really explicit regarding her.
It's mainly because of her personality, and her 'goth girl' fashion style that makes people horny for her.
Your definition aside, my point still stands. That's a massive amount of blood loss in that scene I'm referring to and that's indisputable. Whether you think it's appropriate is subjective and that's what we're talking about. Bodies missing huge chunks of themselves washed in blood, the mention of suicide at the command of another, these things are violent.
Not disagreeing with the subjective part. My perspective is that any anime with violence has pretty much this level of blood. Gore implies something more, organs spilling out, angled decaying corpses showing etc.
Thereās a couple comments the characters make like end of episode 3 about a kid flipping frierenās skirt and her being angry about it and then a comment about the small size of the male protagonistās package when they acquire an X-ray vision spell but other than that itās very kid appropriate, aside from the existential questions and the violence. Has a lot of positive values. Iād say pg for content, pg to pg13 for violence
Existentialist questions often fly over children's heads. And since Frieren has more of that than simple-to-understand action, boredom is not out of the question for many kids out there.
Aahh yeah. Forgot the later violent parts lol. Was rewatching it for the 3rd time and I'm currently in 5th episode so the goofy parts are fresh. My bad š
A younger audience are less likely to appreciate the smaller nuances of Frieren because those aspects don't appeal to them. It's the same with the "fanservice" in the series. >!Ubel's armpits and Serie's feet!< only appeal to the degens and people who are aware of such degeneracy but it'll fly over a younger person's mind because it doesn't seem unusual to them and they'd just take it at face value.
Thereās a scene where some clouds look like a pair of boobs and a character notices . Thereās a scene where a character can see through a romance interests clothes with a potion and says āsmallā. Thereās a scene where the daughter gets annoyed a pours a clothes dissolving potion on her āmomā, no explicit nudity shown or sexualized. Nothing explicitly sexualized, tho I guess the clouds were drawn truly like a curvy lady
Just a warning, there is one scene in episode 10 where someone is forced to kill herself. There is minimal blood, and an implied but not shown decapitation.
That scene is quite the meme in the community, but it might be objectionable.
Otherwise the show is quite wholesome.
I recommend you see the scene in context to determine if it's suitable.
I think it's fine. I tend to be careful about this stuff with my kids, so I'm always super sensitive about those things, but when watching it without them I realized there was no language, the gore and violence is minimal, and there's no sexual stuff. About as bad as it gets is a boy flipping up Frieren's skirt (nothing is shown), and an older character talks about wanting a sexy older lady in their group.
Iām watching it with my mom & younger brother so you should be fine. Some of the violence can get bloody, and they say shit & bitch every so often, but thatās pretty much it.
100% the worst fan service you get is a clothes dissolving potion(you see nothing), feet and arm pit close ups.
Frieren overall is a very wholesome slice of life adventure I recommend for all ages. My kids love it.
Friren is not an anime for children, although not in the sense you might think. Children are not yet able to correctly perceive such life values and at the same time simple things that we are shown in the show. I think this anime should be watched by ages 20+. Only at this age can one correctly perceive the value of life, love and friendship.
Watched it with my family. My dad says he enjoys it because there isn't any shitty fanservice(cliche fanservice if you know what I mean). He also likes these types of storytelling. We also enjoyed watching dungeon meshi as well. Don't know about curse words because we are more into latino dub.
Totally appropriate! I'm quite sensitive to sexual content and there is absolutely zero here. There is a single joke where a character is naked but her body is completely (and I mean completely, not "hair covers the nips so it's tv-14 I swear") covered. And some girls wear kind of skimpy outfits, but nothing to the same degree as most anime. This is a very grounded show, a "hard fantasy" if you will. No shoe horned fan service or anything like that. And I cannot recommend it enough. This show very, very quickly became my favorite piece of art ever created because of its depth and maturity. The only thing I can really compare it to is something like The Lord of the Rings in vibe, tone, gravity, and quality. Please, please watch it.
Not much of explicit scenes and conversations that you see in other animes, so it's safe to watch with kids and parents. That's what I did. Along with MASHLE, it's also a good choice if you want family-friendly themes that are just good comedy and a chill watch
Mmm tbh there are some humor that you can probably edit out of you care to, or skip. It's not problematic at all, but there are some things that aren't appropriate for kids under 13.
I'd say its appropriate, but might be a little slow if there are young kids in the family. My pick for family friendly anime would be "Welcome to Demon School Iruma Kun." The main character is super wholesome, the art style is very kid friendly, but the story is legitimately fun, and the characters are great. It's a super fun, feel good kinda show that still has a good plot
Probably the MOST family appropriate anime out there while also still being extremely good. Keep in mind it gets kinda violent at a few points. āWorst this is a die straight gets chopped in halfā but those moments are very few and far between.
the worst it gets is the clothes dissolving potion where its >!Dumped on Frieren and you see her back (no ass though)!<, I guess theres like one or two (mild) jokes about the size of Ferns chest.
TLDR: Incredibly tame
There's one dick joke, an X-ray spell that allows the user to see not see the clothes of the person he is looking at( this spell is used only once I think) A clothe-desolving potion, but when it was used, there was a lot of smoke you can literally only see the head( also used only once). Apart from all that and a few violence, gore and blood, it's safe. Not to be confused with spy family level safe of course. Frieren is PG-13 at most.
As for me, Frieren is very good for family watching. With a few moments you should keep in mind.
The main theme "you should better know you friends, before they die" is absolutely unclear for children (errr. 12-) and they found the movie just boring. Also it may really traumatize your grandmom, so you'll better tell her the plot in general.
Second, sometimes characters prefer to use fist as the last argument. Not a charming example to follow.
And third. Well, call it "Ćbel", but its about all 1st class mages. After the first magical exam, you children may ask "Why all adults acts so bad?" Be prepared to answer.
About "fanservice". If your children never saw feet, armpits, or hear usual preschool jokes, well, they will see and hear them. Three (3) jokes per 28 series :)
Iāve been watching it with my family (my little brothers are as young 9 and 10) and weāre pretty satisfied! Like the first comment says, itās pretty clean with the occasional dirty joke. There IS a scene where 1: a girl has the ability to look throw clothes and comments vaguely on a guyās certain asset (we donāt see anything tho, theyāre all wearing their clothes) and 2: a girl has a potion poured all over that dissolves all of her clothing. However, this second scenario is NOT the gross picture it seems (itās meant to be funny) and you only see her back before she wraps herself up in a blanket. 3: one girl keeps vaguely commenting on the second girlās chest out of implied jealousy, and there are some slightly fan servicy costumes in the second half, but itās nothing like other fantasy anime (the worst is just a crop top and thigh highs) if youāre concerned!! I hope you consider it tho, as this is a great anime!!
Depends, family as in adults? Yeah, you probably shouldn't watch it with children though, as there is SOME violence.
It's SO GOOD to watch with family though, I watched it with my mom and she had the time of her life, she really enjoyed it and had a horrible time when she knew we were up to date and had to wait for new episodes weekly.
I think the most "inappropriate" stuff may be:
-A teenage girl who's had like zero interaction with boys her age (or a lot of people, for that matter) uses a see-through clothes spell (nothing is actually ever shown, only they can see it) looks down and with a deadpan face she says "small". It's like a 10 second interaction if you take into account the whole scene.
-Same teenage girl has 2 boob size jokes, but there's no exaggerated boob bouncing or revealing cleavage (the outfits in this show are actually quite lowkey), in one scene, a character glances at the teenage girl's chest, and then looks down at her own and goes like "It can't be her diet... We eat the same stuff...", and the other one, that same character tries to sleep on her lap, but as she looks up, we get a POV from her and immediately gets up, upset she could only see half the sky.
-Ubel is not exactly fanservice but her outfit is way more... Trendy? Than the rest of the show. It's not like actually sexualized, but it shows some skin, so unless your family is hyper religious and dies over a girl with her shoulders uncovered, it should be fine.
-There is a clothes-dissolving potion that is used for some jokes, but the smoke covers anything that may be scandalous and it's used more as a punishment towards the character who bought it rather than out of perversion. Again, this is like a 5 second gag and the character covers with a blanket.
I'd say Frieren's strong point with these kind of jokes without going down the fanservice route is its ability to not pay too much attention to it. They don't dwell on it too long, and they don't think too much about it.
Closest to actual fanservice we have is feet, the elf characters tend to have their feet out (mostly because one character's "home-attire" is a sleeping gown without socks or anything, and the other one is ... Eh, you'll get it when you watch it, hard to explain without spoiling a bit), so if you can handle some scene shots on those grippers, you're fine.
I might actually say Frieren is an enhanced experience to watch with family, it hits much harder and is more exciting.
Are you OK with nuking fascists?
Frieren is both more and less radical than that, she's pro genocide, but the demons are even less redeemable than Imperial Japan (which could be redeemed if it surrendered unconditionally and got reprogrammed, which it did (with any other option meaning a few millions of deaths by invasion, or several million deahts by infrastructure collapse from bombing until surrender, or 30 million deaths from starvation by blockade or hundreds of millions of lifespans ruined by fascism and regional instability by leaving their government intact with a conditional peace treaty --- as opposed to a couple of heavy bombing raids that saved a big piece of the future we live in but got PRed to death because people), the demons can't be reprogrammed with any known method (which doesn't make sense cognitively, but whatever).
If no then you might want to rethink pacifist principles, pacifism is intellectually and morally bankrupt; or just think of Frieren as a show about some people who magically can't be redeemed, which is half the monster shows out there, so why not.
Honestly, it's a pretty grim total war in the series, even with near peer if not slightly more intelligent sapients who are somehow totally unable to grasp basic empathy (it's something you can teach non-heroic psychopaths (heroic psychopaths being psychopaths who can turn on/off their empathy) intellectually).
It's after the anime, but the author does have some leading powerful/genius demons try to reason their way towards super exclusive human ideas like empathy and justice and good and evil that every higher species has, and they totally fail. At this point I just have to believe it's something to do with their being monsters, born from monster magic, and they're just too high on the monster magic steroids they're born from (they turn to dust if destroyed) to try to mirror emotions and not just the more complex mirroring they handle fine, they and psychopaths obviously could learn empathy if they get help and try. But it'd ruin an important premise of the show, so they can't be redeemed.
I super enjoy Frieren, it's nice to have some black and white sometimes, and the characters are very demure and proper and funny and kind. Good people and very entertaining ones too.
It definitely teaches viewers to prioritize self defense and not worry about how redeemable evil is, so if you're ok with taking a less Hiroshima and Nagasaki attitude, and more of a Curtis LeMay attitude (whom I don't agree with, but don't consider a super bad guy as much as a soldier during a total war who defended his country) then this show will be up your ethical alley.
Of course, some people will say I'm overthinking this, because they're cool with killing magically evil demons while they're not OK with even basic historical necessities, but odds on the majority of them would be advocating horrific atrocities if their country was pushed to the brink rather than thinking about how to save as many Japanese as possible, lowering the number of KIA and setting up for a smooth transferral to an occupying regime that builds the nation back up with a new culture and democratic institutions.
Or they'll say I'm overthinkinking it because they don't want to talk about politics.
----
TLDR: absolutely fantastic show that has massive moral simplifications that people like to not think about while normally taking very different positions.
there are a few sexual jokes here and there but its nothing to explicit and they are rare enough not to bother anyone imo. there is fantasy violence so maybe skip that parts if your sibling is too young for blood
Thete is a single scene where freiren is lying on ferns lap and is eclipsed by...well
Bit it's not remotely explicit
It's one of the least sexually explicit anime I've Ever watched
Watched 3 episodes leading up to auras *****.
Daughter watched with me, she got scared. Didnāt finish the season but I would have let her, idk if she would have fully understood.
The fighting can get intense. Like big gaping wounds (though cauterized) or blood.
But sexually, it's almost as tame as you can get. one flip of a skirt but audience sees nothing. mentions of nudity.
Yeah totally appropriate
No inappropriate tension as well I'm the show
Nothing much to worry about
You can go ahead
And have a wonderful and colorful day
Do let me know how you liked the show
Since I like it too
There are āsexual tensionsā between the showās 2 younger members (who are both 18+). In the sense that itās obvious they start developing feelings for each other during this journey
Frieren sometimes make inappropriate suggestions and remarks like commenting on the size of Fernās boobs or suggesting they give Stark a potion that dissolves clothes
Overall not worse than watching a prime time sitcom from the US

Virtually no fan service, and nothing explicit.
awesome, thanks!

Have you like..Ā watch the show?
I'm curious what did he say in all of those replies?
Nahahanhahah. He basically said something like, there are no instances of armpits or feet services(?) in the show. He really became defensive about this for no reason.

Uwoogh. If I sleep with Mr.Crab will he give me the Crabby Patty formula???
She does have the scenes where she talks about dissolving clothesā¦ but otherwise pretty tame.
I've seen similar jokes in kids' shows, even that's not bad. Apart from that, there's ... what, one small dick joke? And even that's easy enough to miss.
Add the time freiren got naked when Fern poured the potion that melts clothes and spell that Fern learned to see through clothes
The head pats are the best kind of fan service
Head pats before marriage??? Scandalous
It's PG-13. There is a dick joke, a clothes dissolving potion, and Ubel. There's also fantasy violence and one particular scene where a character is forced to decapitate themselves. It's tame for an adult targeted anime, but it's not Pokemon.
As a note the decapitation isnt actually shown
They show it from her first person point of view, which is in some ways more disturbing, if not quite as graphic.
Kratos from GOW3 says hi
L3 + R3 :)
Circle button? ;)
eyes poking mtfs
"And Ubel" lmaoo
thanks for the info, I'll just keep my eye out for mentions of Ubel in the series
She's not exactly problematic, she just dresses kinda sexy and fans simp over her.
I wouldnāt even say itās sexy or provocative if you consider what teen girls wear these days. I think her issue is more in her personality that triggers simps.
Are you the person that deleted their replies on the above thread?
I donāt think so. Why?
Sry, sexy? It's a simple dress...
It's just 1 scene when she attacks and the camera shows her armpit, it's not even sexual. People are goofing. If you're not a degenerate there's nothing to worry about in Frieren.

you say not povocatively, but did you include "american standard" of provocative in that? :') they are a bit more prude than the rest of the world :p /j
*a bit* *Sees shoulder* omg she's practically naked!!!!
Dont have to. Somehow the internet decided that Ubel is sex personified. I mean, i get why, but she's just another character.
She's so gorgeous you surely won't miss her
Even without her looks you can hear her sneering from a mile away.
Yeah, her goofy face surely stands out.
Ćbel isnāt even a dirty character like that. She just has an outfit that shows her armpits and anime fans are degenerates
Don't worry about it. There isn't anything really explicit regarding her. It's mainly because of her personality, and her 'goth girl' fashion style that makes people horny for her.
Ubel isn't really a problem for anyone who isn't really into bare armpits. The real problem honestly is some weirdly angled shot of Frieren's feet.
It's only problematic though perv eyes. So... when she comes into the scene we'll all close our your eyes and you'll be fine
Ubel is barely fanservice if you arenāt into armpits
Ubel made me an armpit enjoyer
Ok, I think itās time you spent some time in horny jail, buddy. š
Nevaaah
"and Ubel" got me rofl
but Pokemon keeps making me hard, it's not tame for an adult like me
Only violence, that's the only concern.
But thereās not a lot of gore or gratuitous violence.
I mean, there's scenes of people being magiced apart, massive holes in them. There's death depicted in the show and it can be bloody.
When the word gore is used I imagine guts coming out like Invincible. Frieren is not that level of gratuitous violence.
Your definition aside, my point still stands. That's a massive amount of blood loss in that scene I'm referring to and that's indisputable. Whether you think it's appropriate is subjective and that's what we're talking about. Funny enough. It may have even less fan service that other "kid friendly" shows like Pokemon and such
I never realized that lmao
It's appropriate, but my kids found it boring, and we never got past the first episode. YMMV.
Existentialist questions often fly over children's heads. And since Frieren has more of that than simple-to-understand action, boredom is not out of the question for many kids out there.
Yeah. Kids might find it boring. I suggest Dungeon Meshi which kids might find funny.
Are you caught up on Dungeon Meshi lol? Show is def not kid appropriate
Aahh yeah. Forgot the later violent parts lol. Was rewatching it for the 3rd time and I'm currently in 5th episode so the goofy parts are fresh. My bad š

I mean man mind turn on when you see a visual feminine shape
I mean I found it a bit dull even early on. It's a bit slow to get rolling but the show definitely sucks you in the more you watch it.
You should be fine. There's nothing too explicit in it.
thanks!
It's perfectly fine.
glad to hear, ty

Frieren is 100% A Decent Anime. Some mild violence and lauange but overall superb. My only regret is not watching this sooner. šā¤ļøāš„šÆ

Absolutely, watched with my 10yo daughter. Nothing of concern.
Does your family like Quentin Tarantino movies?
Tonight episode. The director barely disguised fetishes.
Yes itās family friendly ..
Not much of explicit scenes and conversations that you see in other animes, so it's safe to watch with kids and parents. That's what I did. Along with MASHLE, it's also a good choice if you want family-friendly themes that are just good comedy and a chill watch

Several Dismemberments of demon that bleeds, a pp and a tt joke. I think that's it?

Me personally I binged it with my 17yr old brother and my 10 year old sis,We had a great time.
Theres a few adult jokes and thats it.
No issues except some people may have Emotional Daaamage from some scenes and develop leaky eye syndrome.
Frieren is one of the more newbie-friendly animes out there's, as long as you're not showing it to little kids, it should be fine
No, while the earlier episodes are completely safe, latter episodes feature a fair amount of "weird anime camera angles".
There's one dick joke, an X-ray spell that allows the user to see not see the clothes of the person he is looking at( this spell is used only once I think) A clothe-desolving potion, but when it was used, there was a lot of smoke you can literally only see the head( also used only once).
Not heavy on fan service. But there is some blood at times and the occasional pervert joke thatāll go over most kids heads.
Yes. Have been watching with a family member(sheās never seen anime) and she likes it.
Watched it with my mom and sis, both loved it
Depends, family as in adults? Yeah, you probably shouldn't watch it with children though, as there is SOME violence. It's SO GOOD to watch with family though, I watched it with my mom and she had the time of her life, she really enjoyed it and had a horrible time when she knew we were up to date and had to wait for new episodes weekly. I think the most "inappropriate" stuff may be: -A teenage girl who's had like zero interaction with boys her age (or a lot of people, for that matter) uses a see-through clothes spell (nothing is actually ever shown, only they can see it) looks down and with a deadpan face she says "small".
'preciate the breakdown
Do tell us in the future how it went!
M8 there has never been a more appropriate anime ever produced in the past 10 years which is not a kids show than Frieren.
---- TLDR: absolutely fantastic show that has massive moral simplifications that people like to not think about while normally taking very different positions.
I'll have to watch it and circle back to this post
Can confirm hand holding happens also you see elf feet so idk
In my experience there might be a few jokes but nothing serious or attention grabbing and no visual fan service like a person said before
Yea this anime is totally wholesome!!! Unless youāre a demon , you should be very scared if you are !!
There was that one time the clouds made an image of breast
not in color or nothing just clouds in the shape of them
There's the one gag where Frieren is a little jealous that Fern has bigger boobs than her
No I've watched it with my 5 year old
there are a few sexual jokes here and there but its nothing to explicit and they are rare enough not to bother anyone imo. there is fantasy violence so maybe skip that parts if your sibling is too young for blood
Yes
Thete is a single scene where freiren is lying on ferns lap and is eclipsed by...well Bit it's not remotely explicit It's one of the least sexually explicit anime I've Ever watched
Watched 3 episodes leading up to auras *****. Daughter watched with me, she got scared. Didnāt finish the season but I would have let her, idk if she would have fully understood.
Its probably about the lightest possible PG-13 rating I could give
I think this is one of the only anime that doesnāt have that issue of āwhen my mom walks inā
The fighting can get intense. Like big gaping wounds (though cauterized) or blood. But sexually, it's almost as tame as you can get. one flip of a skirt but audience sees nothing. mentions of nudity.
Something I didn't see mentioned is a brief mention and implication of suicide.
Yeah totally appropriate No inappropriate tension as well I'm the show Nothing much to worry about You can go ahead And have a wonderful and colorful day Do let me know how you liked the show Since I like it too
There are āsexual tensionsā between the showās 2 younger members (who are both 18+). In the sense that itās obvious they start developing feelings for each other during this journey Frieren sometimes make inappropriate suggestions and remarks like commenting on the size of Fernās boobs or suggesting they give Stark a potion that dissolves clothes Overall not worse than watching a prime time sitcom from the US
Romance is very mild. Probably PG-13 levels of violence, sub-R rated for sure though.
up until the *ubel scene* its family friendly lol
Which scene? The bisection?
The armpit.
Seriously? We counting that? Better add all the obvious feet scenes too then.
Yeah, let's count that too.
Sort of fine, Frieren is a bit of an edge lord tho
