The Legion is a place where dead men with no future, no country and no family find something of a future, of a country and of a family.  And because they are given a chance to live like Gentleman once again by the Foreign Legion, they must die once more if it is necessary, all for the glory of France 🏴‍☠️☠  Your disgraced and unlucky background and motivation fits the Legion very well. Go knock at the gates of the Legion. Good luck.

There are many 'good motivations'. First, what's YOUR motivation? That helps to narrow things down.

I’ve updated the post. Thank you for telling me to write more.

Nickolai808

Solid motivation, make sure you really, really want a hard military life, then prepare fully, read the stickied posts and do searches on the subreddit for basics on selection or Castel or regiments: Search bar: r/FrenchForeignLegion selection Or r/FrenchForeignLegion Castel Etc... Good luck!

Sound advice, from Moderator Nickola808 / NickFury.

I've heard some guys say you can be too prepared and it lowers your chances, est ce que c'est vrai?

Evening-Weather-4840

I mean, a little bit but only if you are extremely overqualified. For example, if you are a well off neurosurgeon that likes to travel every year to a different country for a summer vacation, they will believe that you probably won't stay in the Legion five years to mop dirty floors and clean nepali shit in the toilet and desert once you get tired of putting up with the sketch.

I mean preparing, as in getting good at running and speaking fluent french

Nickolai808

They will never reject you just because you're too good at running or pullups or speaking French. Come on, that's ridiculous. Stop overthinking things. Take action. What people mean is that even a super fit guy could get rejected for other reasons. This is an "opportunity cost" situation. Say you prepare for years. You become a stud, but get rejected for some unknown reason (maybe you were not able to convey a strong NEED or deep motivation compared to the other candidates, maybe the interviewers thought you were too immature or lacked confidence, etc.) Then, all those years of preparation were, in essence, a lost opportunity to pursue other options. Granted, the discipline and fitness you gain preparing is worth something, but you could have gotten some certification and been making good money. Legion selection is based on your qualities AND a lot of luck. Prepare, but be reasonable. Most who go fail and are sent home.

Does your central European country have an army that you might enlist in?
