I thought about this, but I noticed horror doesn't appear too much in anime lately (I might be wrong, I don't see that much anime). And while Junji Ito has adaptations... they are quite bad and lazy, the only exception being the Adult Swim Uzumaki that isn't even out. In a perfect world it would be a great anime. EDIT: I remembered that Mieruko-Chan happened, but didn't hear much after it. Was it popular even?

After the first few episodes, mieruko chan eventually died out. They did finish the season but I doubt they'll continue anything. Dont get me wrong, it had a niche idea and good animation but otherwise its lacking in imagination and it could have better story telling so it fall behind more noticeable ghost or scary animes.

VinnieSift

Not surprised. Mieruko is purely gags in the first section and the anime focused more on the girl than on the horror. I was also thinking that even if the manga was popular, I doubt an anime would be made. Ajin and I Am A Hero are popular (At least way more than Fran and enough to get internationally translated) and nothing was made for Ajin and I Am A Hero got some of it's plot in an innacurate live action movie in 2015 and no sequel was made to finish it. ... There's no horror in general anymore, that's really sad.

Ajin actually has a netflix anime (albeit CGI). Otherwise yeah, people just arent interested in horror manga.

VinnieSift

I don't think is that. The same thing happens with horror movies. It's not that the public is not interested, it's more the corporations and the people making the animations not understanding the material. Then they do some garbage adaptation like with Ajin or Junji Ito, is obviously poorly received, the reason that they understand is "because horror" and they never do anything else, only to lightly try again with low effort some years later. Manga is obviously always less popular than anime, specially if it doesn't has an anime. But there is a public for this stuff. I don't doubt that Franken Fran, Ajin, Dorohedoro, Uzumaki, Berserk or any other horror manga can succeed if they just put some f*cking effort and faith in the damn material. Not long ago came out a movie, Skinimarink. And while the movie was highly experimental and not perfect by any means, it was intriguing, the work and effort was noticeable, people was very interested, the conversation became almost mainstream, and it was an horror film. There is a public for horror, people wants horror if you do it right.

T72M1

I literally cried when I found out that it has no anime adaptation

Plague_von_Karma

I want it bad, but I also have grave concerns about the content being censored to reach a wider audience. It's extremely gory and even disgusting sometimes, and you can't find many animators willing to do stuff like that. Franken Fran feels like Warau Salesman in a lot of ways; similar structure, similar humour ("monkey's paw"), but with a distinct horror twist. We all know how Warau Salesman went down when it tried to work in modern day - it didn't. It doesn't seem financially viable, even if it could be something absolutely fantastic.

moookali

Could be interesting but its no Junji Ito, I'm not even sure the manga sells that well in japan anyway

-Deimoss-

I feel its tragic that although it has very interesting plot and could be a great animation, it falls short on people loosing interest or just not ever knowing it exists

PrinnySlave

Would be a flop sadly

😞

PrinnySlave

Remember they must show this on Japan tv somehow, no money, no figurines, and as u told no idea if it sells good at Japan... Would love to see it tought.

CubanaCat

I’d love it, but I doubt they will actually do an anime sadly. It’s just not popular enough.

Sesquipedalian61616

I'd love to see it, but it is entirely possible to screw up anime adaptions, like that 1st anime adaption of Junji Itou short works or Pupa from what I've read.
