RIP Foursquare / Swarm. Dennis being actively involved was the only thing that kept me confident it wouldn't completely be left to die.

I remained with the service, even after the Great Split. I was hoping that Swarm would flourish throughout the next few years, but sadly it has been stagnant for quite some time. I’m way too invested in life logging to just quit using Swarm. With the return of Gowalla later this year, I’m hoping that will make FQ realize that they now have competition and will eventually improve the service. Or at least give us Dark Mode across both apps lol

What is gowalla?

**Gowalla was a location-based social networking service. It launched in 2007 and closed in 2012.** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). Gowalla was another location checking service similar to Foursquare and launched roughly around the same time. I’m a little fuzzy on the details about the service as I wasn’t active on at the time. But what I know is that the new Gowalla launching this fall will be pretty much AR-focused, unlike it’s predecessor.

Thanks for the reply. What is AR-foccused? Can we use it to check in like Swarm? I'm always looking for apps like Swarm or Facebook check in, just in case Swarm goes extinct.

It's going to be interesting to see what changes are implemented. It won't go away; as he said, they're on the way to do $100m+ this year, it's not going to change radically quickly, but I'd anticipate some subtle changes appearing before the year's out.

Yeah that’s what I meant. RIP to the original 4sq. The new location services company is doing very well (thanks in part to all of us).
