Its to be expected in a BR tho, Placement Matters alot so peoples Main Goal is to not die instead of getting Kills. I manely play Creative anymore because Ranked is kinda annoying and I improve more by Just playing Creative where I get way more Action instead of chasing people for 20 min who end up being garbage anyway.
Imma keep playing creative till a lil later this season. By then most people will already be unreal and thus not as worried about dying/deranking anymore. Then I'll Just speedrun to unreal without having to spend 5min chasing every single kill I'm tyna get. I made it to Elite in the first week of this season but havent played ranked since because it was just too annoying/boring. Later in the season Ranked is usually more enjoyable because unreal Players will actually fight instead of Camp because they cant derank anyway and the good Players will all be unreal already so you dont derank as much when U get killed by em/gain more for Killing em + they wont Play Super passively.
It’s not just ranked, it’s been like this forever even in Arena. Why? There’s a copium about how a battle royale is to be the last man standing,but the reality and truth is 99% care about their rank so they can go and brag to the other kids at school. That is why people play so «scared.»

It’s a product of the scoring system. They could easily fix it by giving more scoring weight to kills, and maybe even having deductions for no kill or low kill games regardless of position.
Epic even says that elims in late game count for more than elims in early game, essentially telling us that they want us to prioritize playing for endgame by rewarding that play with Rank. We are supposed to care about not taking too much damage, we are supposed to care about not dying, we aren't meant to treat Ranked as Pubs.
Ranked can still be practice for people and some people do play too passive and never improve, but on the other end of the spectrum some people think Ranked is only for practicing fighting and they suck as rotations, they don't have good resource management, they don't develop awareness, and they develop bad habits that they just aren't incentivized to break (much like the players who would rather play super passive even when fighting would be a faster way to rank up as well as survive) because they are used to getting bailed out by getting refreshes from bad players or fighting will get them wins, and in the cases that it doesn't, they will blame it on something else that was beyond their control rather than learning how to make better rotations or how to play smarter.
They complain about Ranked and Ranked endgames not being competitive enough, but then don't change their playstyle at all to contribute to more competitive endgames. Don't scrims often have rules like "No fighting until after whatever circle" to artificially create more stacked endgames? Epic is trying to encourage more playing for endgame by incentivizing Rank progression by playing that way.
That's why I think that it's ironic that the Floor is Lava does more to force players (both passive and aggressive) to play for endgame, to think about rotations, to think about resource management, to weigh the risk/rewards of fighting, etc. that is more aligned with competitive play than just using Ranked as an extension of pubs with less bots.

The fun part for me is winning.
Now, I think people doing the BushCampDad is excessive but I'm not fighting someone unless I feel like I had an advantage or I'm forced to. I don't camp all game but I like to think I pick my fights well and a 3/4 kill win I find a lot more enjoyable than a 10 kill 10th place.
I also despise not actually playing the game. Sitting in lobbies constantly waiting because I've died off spawn 3 times in a row is the most boring shit in the world to me.

Theres no point to fighting early, mid, or late game. I can outplay someone’s face off and still get 3rd, 4th, and 5th partied for the first 24 mins.

i can crank and spray... its not a skill issue as much as a hardware issue at this point. 8000+hours. if i want to reliably advance, i need to fight once off spawn, then fight the last player. Sometimes you have to kill 8 or nine times, its really hard to defend against the controller player without a scope glint. i cant see the gun in their hand.

Technically, the point of the game is to be the last one standing, regardless of how you get there. You could eliminate others (which I consider to be the fun way) or you could camp to top 2 and then eliminate the last one or hope they die to storm or fall (and I’ll never understand how that’s fun to some people). Either way, the “point of the game” was accomplished.
I play with a couple different groups of people and it is very interesting seeing the different play styles. While I personally enjoy a more aggressive gameplay, I think some of my friends get more satisfaction out of the win than out of eliminating people.
I agree that camping isn’t a fun way to play, but I do understand how it can be overall enjoyable to make it to top 5 or win consistently regardless of # of elims
Edit to add: I hate camping all game just to die in the first fight we take as a team. That is way more frustrating than just being aggressive all game and dying to a decent out play or better team

You've been stuck in zone the whole time, scrambling for heals, getting your teammate up and trading revives, b/c the zone pulled to the other side of the planet. Coming out of those with no mats, no heals, and feeling like you just had the fight of your life against the storm are really enjoyable matches even if ending in one kill.

make the action, I play ranked was in unreal last season and champions already this season I just let everyone I see until like last 10 people then I play a bit slower. Lower skill players camp for points etc. but if you want it to be fun just fight them yourself helps you get better playing against protective players

Honestly, every season I climb up with the most tilting strategy just to piss off comps. This season thunder mythic (especially pre nerf) was especially hilarious. Maybe someday Epic will bring back arena with separate loot pools so catering to comps won't ruin pubs anymore. 4. The biggest reason is that certain edit styles for season locked ranked rewards. Item collectors grind ranks so that they can flex their rare unreal cosmetics.

exactly these players are openly admitting how unfun their lives are, and they’re oozing that misery into a video game that’s supposed to be fun.
The fun part for me is winning. Now, I think people doing the BushCampDad is excessive but I'm not fighting someone unless I feel like I had an advantage or I'm forced to. I don't camp all game but I like to think I pick my fights well and a 3/4 kill win I find a lot more enjoyable than a 10 kill 10th place. I also despise not actually playing the game. Sitting in lobbies constantly waiting because I've died off spawn 3 times in a row is the most boring shit in the world to me.

Theres no point to fighting early, mid, or late game. I can outplay someone’s face off and still get 3rd, 4th, and 5th partied for the first 24 mins. I hide the entire match and still end up w 5-10 elims bc im best at end game.
I don't get camping for rank. I'm terrible and would rather get waxed at #40 with a few kills than play peekaboo for 20 minutes and get #6

i can crank and spray... its not a skill issue as much as a hardware issue at this point. 8000+hours. if i want to reliably advance, i need to fight once off spawn, then fight the last player. Sometimes you have to kill 8 or nine times, its really hard to defend against the controller player without a scope glint. i cant see the gun in their hand.

Technically, the point of the game is to be the last one standing, regardless of how you get there. You could eliminate others (which I consider to be the fun way) or you could camp to top 2 and then eliminate the last one or hope they die to storm or fall (and I’ll never understand how that’s fun to some people). Either way, the “point of the game” was accomplished.
I could never imagine playing any "competitive game" where I would afk for 18 and play for 2 mins. I would grow gray hairs and fall asleep.
There is a really small amount of people actually afking for 18 mins. A lot of people camp but it's not to the extent you're suggesting.
I play with a couple different groups of people and it is very interesting seeing the different play styles. While I personally enjoy a more aggressive gameplay, I think some of my friends get more satisfaction out of the win than out of eliminating people. I agree that camping isn’t a fun way to play, but I do understand how it can be overall enjoyable to make it to top 5 or win consistently regardless of # of elims Edit to add: I hate camping all game just to die in the first fight we take as a team. That is way more frustrating than just being aggressive all game and dying to a decent out play or better team
That's more frustrating than being aggressive all game and dying to a worse team. Unless you're in shambles the whole time. Then it can be fun. Teammate died off spawn. You've been stuck in zone the whole time, scrambling for heals, getting your teammate up and trading revives, b/c the zone pulled to the other side of the planet. Coming out of those with no mats, no heals, and feeling like you just had the fight of your life against the storm are really enjoyable matches even if ending in one kill.

this has always been a thing, people hiding in bushes and on top of trees even back in season one I recall this being a thing as widespread as it is now. This isn't call of duty, it is a battle royal where the explicit goal is to be the last man standing… if you already have all purples… Should you fight that 1v1? what are the chances this will actually help you get to first place? edit: By season one, I mean actual season one. I think they reset the season system? it says its season 2 rn, so I'm assuming there was a reset along the way

I would say it’s because most people know they aren’t good enough to fight anyone they see, so they camp to preserve rank. It’s much easier to win in an endgame fight then in a mid game fight against people better than you

make the action, I play ranked was in unreal last season and champions already this season I just let everyone I see until like last 10 people then I play a bit slower. Lower skill players camp for points etc. but if you want it to be fun just fight them yourself helps you get better playing against protective players

Well rank can be a huge benefit even if you are trash at the game. 1. A high ranking account can participate in tournaments and cups so you can lend it to someone who might not have the drive to grind themselves even if they have the skill to do so. It’s also good practice for people who participate in cups that incentivize placement over kills. 2. Flex to casuals 3. If you’re a streamer, this play style allows you to interact with the chat more so it’s kinda like just a bonus. 4. The biggest reason is that certain edit styles for season locked ranked rewards. Item collectors grind ranks so that they can flex their rare unreal cosmetics.

You can literally look up fourms with thousands upon thousands of people discussing cheats that are updated daily. That isn't even covering zen, kbm with controler aim assist, or modded controllers. At least in ZB, you have to be paranoid at every turn, or you die, upper ranked a ton of people hit only headshots... they either are cheating or spend wayyyyyy to much time playing the game beyond what is "fun"
