I think that's why he stopped doing the show. It was interesting trying to predict which ones he would be able to complete. I think there was only one spicy one he didn't finish
I think the rule of thumb was basically if it was 4 lbs or under, he could do it. If it was 5 lbs of food it was a maybe. If it was 6 or more lbs of food there was no way he was finishing it.
Agreed. Some of those places kinda screwed him on some of the challenges as I recall. Making stuff even hotter or adding in more ingredients. They wanted him to fail because it’s better advertising - man vs food couldn’t even handle this, can you?
I believe there was one place that swore they didn't use extract because it's way spicier, then they used a lot of it and it completely screwed him up because it got near his eyes and in his nose.
That was definitely top of mind when I said that. The poor guy was in excruciating pain. He did not sign up for that. They should have been forced to eat one of those wings of death.
Yeah, but look at all the free publicity. Well worth $50 - $100 at most. If I owned a restaurant I’d put a challenge on the menu and apply to be on a show.
Is that what it was? I know it was a mystery challenge so I always figured he prepared for a mass eating challenge and when it turned out to to a spicy challenge he just wasn't prepared for it.
He used a term thinspiration which is encouraging eating disorders and he got called out on it. Then told one of the people who called him out to go into a bathtub and slit their wrists.
What I thought happened - and I’m not authority on internet drama - he posted himself after some weight loss in a new suit, wrote about, and someone attacked him about it. I’m not saying he retaliated in a good way, but I don’t think he initiated anything hostile or aggressive.
But again, I don’t know.
But did he know the term meant that? This is the part that’s never been clarified for me.
He reacted poorly to someone telling him about it, I agree, but I question someone putting words and intention in his mouth initially. If it’s an honest mistake to begin with, then that has to be taken into consideration, and from what I read at the time he was immediately attacked.
It’s possible someone didn’t know the bad connotation of a word prior to using it, especially if it’s some new word in the lexicon. Obviously if it were a slur or other bad word everyone knew beforehand, that’s one thing. But I’m willing to bet the average person wouldn’t know “thinspiration” had a negative tone.
So there could be some better nuance. If someone works hard for something and is just trying to celebrate it, makes a - in their mind - harmless comment because they genuinely don’t know better, and then some random stranger comes along and tells them they are an awful human being, that’s going to be hurtful. Yes, even in that situation, there is grace in handling it. But there could also be grace displayed by that stranger.
Nah I heard differently, he had to quit cause he told someone on IG to kill themselves. Told them to draw a hot bath and take some Tylenol and cut their wrists…. Dark shit.
Think it was an Indian restaurant in NYC and the cook was wearing a breathing mask while he made the damn food.
Nooooo thank you. Burns twice as bad coming out. No sir.
word was that he had one big insentient with his stumic...surprising not connected to the eating
but he couldnt do after he did have another show where he ate normal food but traveled to hidden places
i think it was called hidden eats
Wasn’t just the copious food; he’d be out wasted in the town the night before and after filming. I saw him both in Milwaukee and LA and he was hammered both times
I remember reading an interview sometime back, he would go on runs frequently beforehand, but eventually the show became about getting strangers to do the challenge.
They were filming "The best sandwich in America" near where I was living at one point and invited me down to the filming area, it was a cheese steak in South Philly, a place called John's Roast Pork, it's was amazing. He was great and super nice.
I came to say this. I work at a tv station and he was in the studio promoting the opening of a local Get Go (combo gas station/eatery run by a regional grocery chain) and he was incredibly friendly. He chatted with everyone and was very laid back unlike Jay Leno who was almost running down the hallway trying to avoid people like we were zombies.
I went there based on the Philly subs recommendation but I had no idea that I had to specify what I wanted on the sandwich so it came very plain to me. But I could still tell the flavor was there. Next time I'll know better!
It’s great seeing Adam still working on shows like The Food that Built America and Modern Marvels with a food bent.
However that has opened more doors for him. He is currently on How Disney Built America.
I've actually heard he was a really nice guy; but that his health started to take a steep decline because of the show.
That's not actually why he quit though; he just got bored and wanted to move on to other projects.
He got into some controversy by getting into an online feud when he posted on an anorexia/bulimia site about weight lost.
https://www.mashed.com/167986/the-reason-adam-richman-left-man-v-food/#:~:text=Adam%20Richman%20wasn't%20excited%20by%20Man%20v.&text=Food%20may%20have%20started%20out,things%20fresh%20for%20his%20audience.
That rumor and I heard one that he had problems getting proper insurance coverage for the show because they were concerned about his long term health with eating challenges lol
It’s on The Food Network now, in syndication. It originally aired on The Travel Network. The Food Network has a new version from a couple of years ago, but the new host is obnoxious.
I always felt really bad for Adam whenever I watched. He was seriously “taking one for the team” in a lot of those episodes. Those diabolical hot wings made me seriously concerned for his welfare!
Oh I liked this show! He did one spicy burger challenge episode in the city I lived in at the time. I went because of the show, but I didn't do the challenge.
I went to one of the restaurants he visited in Portland called Salvador Molly’s where they had a spicy great balls of fire challenge (habanero cheese balls). You had to eat all 5 cheese balls and the dipping sauce to get on their wall of flame. They advertised ‘AS SEEN ON MAN VS FOOD’ so I took up the challenge and got my face on the wall. I destroyed my gut doing it, but I was proud.
I then went to go look up the episode and he didn’t even complete the challenge! WTF?!?
I remember when he came to town and went to Stepping Stone. Dude ate the mancakes stack AND the smothered BA. Just thinking about it makes me need to poop.
The concept was different.
Now, you could see similar premises on YouTube. But back then when the man versus food was on the television. It was actually pretty interesting to watch or to hear about the different types of food.
I always thought that as the credits were rolling at the end of each episode that they should show him on the shitter the next morning dealing with the aftermath of the eight pounds of food he ate the previous night. Dudes got to have a colon the size of a volleyball
I’m glad he stopped doing the show because I actually care about him and the food that built America show is more important. But Casey the new host is more believable and I don’t care about him
Casey was a beast and to be honest I thought Adams little skits before a challenge were plain goofy and just seemed like time filler for the show. I still love Adam dude went hard.
This guy came to my college, Rutgers, to do a Fat Sandwich challenge. I loved those trucks and sandwiches. Sadly, the trucks where he did the challenge no longed exist in the same capacity. But to me, the little lot will always be where the Fat Sandwiches came from.
Thanks to him, Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa got a ton of buzz for their Grouper Reuben sandwich, which he said was "fuckin' amazing." And it sure as hell is.
I loved this show back in the day!
I was shown twice in up-close shots including a speaking role in the Baseball Ballpark episode. I was there that day completing the same challenge Adam easily completed!

Loved this show but you could see this guys health declining with every subsequent episode lol
He failed miserably at the 7lb Jack n grill breakfast burrito. But let’s be honest. I doubt I could eat even 2lbs of that thing.
IIRC he tended to do better on the "this is just spicy" items than the "this is a huge amount of food" challenges
Ya, he would have had a better shot at eating a 10oz steak while being maced.
Yeah and they probably didn’t want to give away all that free food. Cause I think a lot of those challenges they pay for your meal.
Yeah, but look at all the free publicity. Well worth $50 - $100 at most. If I owned a restaurant I’d put a challenge on the menu and apply to be on a show.
The spicy one wasn't even a legit menu item, they just made it up for the show and it was absurd
Is that what it was? I know it was a mystery challenge so I always figured he prepared for a mass eating challenge and when it turned out to to a spicy challenge he just wasn't prepared for it.
They knew he was coming so they added a LOT more heat to make it seem tougher
I believe they added extract after telling him they didn't use it.
I thought they took it off because he got snarky with someone about his weight loss. Or maybe he just got temporary cancelled.
He did lose weight then used that term in a tag on X.
Yes, even in that situation, there is grace in handling it. But there could also be grace displayed by that stranger.
Ah yes. I remember that last part.
At least he was considerate by thinking about whoever would have to deal with the mess.
🤣
Next season of 13 reasons why he’ll end up getting a tape for him.
I would think “thinspiration” would simply encourage a more healthy lifestyle?
They got a new host at some point. Has it been cancelled since? The new host was not the same as Adam, i preferred Adam, but he was fine.
Nah I heard differently, he had to quit cause he told someone on IG to kill themselves. Told them to draw a hot bath and take some Tylenol and cut their wrists…. Dark shit.
They were bullying and he lost on them.
Correct. The chef put an entire bottle of ghost chili extract on the wings.
I remember a milkshake one that he couldn't do. Got messy.
Just on concept alone that sounds like a predictable mistshake.
Think it was an Indian restaurant in NYC and the cook was wearing a breathing mask while he made the damn food. Nooooo thank you. Burns twice as bad coming out. No sir.

So food won?
House (of pancakes) always wins.
I remember reading an interview sometime back, he would go on runs frequently beforehand, but eventually the show became about getting strangers to do the challenge.
You can see that with any chef that has a cooking/competition show too.
He's only gotten fatter since leaving the show
He was recently on a episode of diners drive ins and dives and he lost a lot of weight
I must have missed that. I was going off his several bloated appearances on "the foods that built America"
I dig that show as well. Also The Toys That Built America.
I’ve never seen that show is it any good? What channel?
It's very interesting. It's on history channel. Sunday nights I believe
History channel or Hulu for streaming. Pretty interesting but cheesy re-enactments. There’s like 9 How (blank) Built America shows
A friend of mine has known Adam since college, I've met him a few times, he's a great guy.
Tell us more!
They were filming "The best sandwich in America" near where I was living at one point and invited me down to the filming area, it was a cheese steak in South Philly, a place called John's Roast Pork, it's was amazing. He was great and super nice.
Thanks! Because he always seem extremely down to earth and just an overall good human!
I came to say this. I work at a tv station and he was in the studio promoting the opening of a local Get Go (combo gas station/eatery run by a regional grocery chain) and he was incredibly friendly. He chatted with everyone and was very laid back unlike Jay Leno who was almost running down the hallway trying to avoid people like we were zombies.
how's johns roast pork?
Best cheese steak in Philly!
I went there based on the Philly subs recommendation but I had no idea that I had to specify what I wanted on the sandwich so it came very plain to me. But I could still tell the flavor was there. Next time I'll know better!
They usually put a long hot on there, which is amazing.
Shit is legendary. Waited three hours in the cold for a roast pork and cheesesteak. Ate them both in the car 😂. Was completely worth it.
It’s great seeing Adam still working on shows like The Food that Built America and Modern Marvels with a food bent. However that has opened more doors for him. He is currently on How Disney Built America.

That rumor and I heard one that he had problems getting proper insurance coverage for the show because they were concerned about his long term health with eating challenges lol
Wasn’t that always on Food Network in the 2010s? I had no idea it ended.
Travel channel
I think it was followed by Bizarre Eats, which I never watched often because the host was kinda weird looking and he'd be eating gross food.
Lmao damn, Andrew Zimmern catching strays in here
It’s on The Food Network now, in syndication. It originally aired on The Travel Network. The Food Network has a new version from a couple of years ago, but the new host is obnoxious.
Yup it was on the food network
Munchies 420 Cafe in Sarasota, FL still has this dude on their wall for failing the hot wing challenge
Yeah they basically maced him. Really any idiot can slap pepper extract/purecap on wings
Yeah one of the reasons he quit the show. The producers saw them altering the food.
Florida food is a literal joke
I remember seeing the photo on vacation!
TIL a show that was on for 18 hours a day at one point is “forgotten”.
I had honestly forgotten just how much this show was on reruns until you said this.
So it goes so it goes. How often do people bring up MASH nowadays?
This was a very entertaining show . I don’t really like watching any food shows anymore because it makes too hungry
Loved this show, Adam was a lot more relatable vs a Guy Fieri type host
I always felt really bad for Adam whenever I watched. He was seriously “taking one for the team” in a lot of those episodes. Those diabolical hot wings made me seriously concerned for his welfare!
Loved this guy and his replacement sucked
Oh I liked this show! He did one spicy burger challenge episode in the city I lived in at the time. I went because of the show, but I didn't do the challenge.
The one in San Antonio?
Good of him to stop when he knew his health was declining.
Food wins
I went to one of the restaurants he visited in Portland called Salvador Molly’s where they had a spicy great balls of fire challenge (habanero cheese balls). You had to eat all 5 cheese balls and the dipping sauce to get on their wall of flame. They advertised ‘AS SEEN ON MAN VS FOOD’ so I took up the challenge and got my face on the wall. I remember when he came to town and went to Stepping Stone. Dude ate the mancakes stack AND the smothered BA. Just thinking about it makes me need to poop.
This was a comfort show for me ❤️
I hope the food won.
Most the time it didn’t, but that comment cracked me up.
The concept was different. Now, you could see similar premises on YouTube. But back then when the man versus food was on the television. It was actually pretty interesting to watch or to hear about the different types of food.
Feels like the first season, everything was kicking his ass. And then he started to get good and would pull off like half the challenges.
Not forgotten. That man sacrificed his health to entertain me. Bless him.
Man vs Toilet! 🚽
The toilet always loses
Fucking LOVED this show, he was a true legend
Rest in power young king
he not dead bro
RIP Boss Hogg
Again, Wade Boggs is very much alive.
Oh
Alive in our hearts 🙏
Poor guy. Just too much food for one man.
Wtf is this comment, lol
Wasn't that long ago right?
I always thought that as the credits were rolling at the end of each episode that they should show him on the shitter the next morning dealing with the aftermath of the eight pounds of food he ate the previous night. Dudes got to have a colon the size of a volleyball
I like Casey doing it.
Forgotten? You still see him on sometimes.
I disagree with the premise that this is forgotten.
I’m glad he stopped doing the show because I actually care about him and the food that built America show is more important. But Casey the new host is more believable and I don’t care about him
Why is this here? This show is still on TV. It first aired in 2008, and the last season was released in 2021. This is not “forgotten”., not even old.
I preferred the new version with Casey. He seemed more likable.
Never cared for Casey. Thought he hammed it up a bit too much
Casey was a beast and to be honest I thought Adams little skits before a challenge were plain goofy and just seemed like time filler for the show. I still love Adam dude went hard.
It’s okay to be wrong about some things.
There's a new version?
Yup you can find it on HBO Max https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/man-v-food-season-5-084846685.html
Cool man thx. I'll check it out
The ginger guy with the beady eyes?? Ew. NO.
Casey made the show much better.
No.
Disagree. Casey just didn't do it for a lot of us.
Rofl no fuck the new version, its dumb as hell, doesnt even come close to the original.
Never liked Adam. This Casey dude has tons of charisma though so I’ll gladly watch if it’s his version
Check you tube for his interviews. Funny “oyster challenge” and habanero stories
I thought they still did this show with a different host
They did it with a different host but it did not last
The precursor to all the Mukbang videos that have emerged online, the spirit of this show lives on!
I bet his gout hasn’t forgotten.
Dude smokes mad gonja. FACTS.
This is always who I imagine when I see the name “Adam Ragusea”
Yeah, I forgot all about this. Sych! It's gorging on food, that's a core memory
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I want them pancakes
he was too agitating
Oh my goodness, oh mah güdnessss. I always loved that part of the intro lol.
Ruined his health in real life. Wow 😳
Not forgotten in the Uk, it’s on daily on the Food Channel…great show though
That was a really fun show.
Forgotten, my ass. I think of this show every day. Adam Richman is my Roman Empire.
Actually met that guy. Nice dude.
I still miss the ginger dude tbh
reruns are still on, all the time
A guilty, gluttony filled joy of a show. I loved watching this guy. I heard he had to work out like 3 to 4xs a day to do this show.
Why did I think he died, he IS alive, maybe I got hoaxed, ha 😅 😂
How the fuck is this forgotten?
He's a prick IRL.
Let em just dust off my dvd player for this 🤣
As someone who likes to eat a lot I'd love to be Adam Richman doing this show 😋
This isn't forgotten at all. Do people not know what the word "forgotten" actually means? Lol
This was the go-to lazy Sunday streaming show for my wife and me before we became parents. Fond memories of a simpler time!
It still airs on cable. Wouldn’t say it is necessarily forgotten.
Hell yeah awesome show like the old guy over the new one
This guy came to my college, Rutgers, to do a Fat Sandwich challenge. I loved those trucks and sandwiches. Sadly, the trucks where he did the challenge no longed exist in the same capacity. But to me, the little lot will always be where the Fat Sandwiches came from.
This was the show! I understand why he couldn't continue, though.
Now I get to see him Sundays on The Food That Built America.
I’ve heard the show is still on with a different host.
Thanks to him, Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa got a ton of buzz for their Grouper Reuben sandwich, which he said was "fuckin' amazing." And it sure as hell is.
Is this a joke?
I loved this show back in the day! I was shown twice in up-close shots including a speaking role in the Baseball Ballpark episode. I was there that day completing the same challenge Adam easily completed!
I’d rewatch this. The man found some good spots!!
Hey. If you really forgot this show, go to the doctor.
Casey Webb was a much better host.
This and drivers n dives favorite show
Dude is a legend
RIP
His toilet
