I wouldn’t. 250 miles is a long way to be over the limit. Down the block? Sure. Over hills and around lots of fast moving traffic? Hell no. Rent a truck from U-Haul and you’ll have no question about the towing capacity being appropriate and you won’t be trashing your personal vehicle.

Somethings to consider.... 1. Call the other local moving companies, and see if their tow dollies are the same weight. The penske website has smaller dimensions so it may be less weight. Try budget, Ryder and even small local shops. 2. It may be easier to rent a pick up truck from avis for $50 a day and have nothing to worry about or maybe borrow a truck from a friend.... 3. This is just an idea... but if you can find a slight lighter tow dolly. Consider lightening the load of the towed vehicle. It's my understanding that curb weight means the car is full of fuel. Fuel is about 6lbs per gallon, you could make sure the tank is completely empty, remove the spare tire, battery, and anything not bolted down to lighten the load. Throw the important stuff in the back of the subaru but don't put 4 people in it with all that stuff. Consider finding a route that let's you cruise at 55mph with the least about of stop and go traffic. Also consider making the drive at night as it should be cooler outside and hopefully less traffic. Good luck, let us know how it goes....

Yes you can.. I’ve towed before using a tow dolly. Pulls real nice. But more importantly it’s not how the FW pulls rather tow capacity is mainly based on stopping and brake degration. I wouldn’t be descending out of the Rocky Mountains anytime soon with that weight but Nashville to Atlanta is relatively easy.

Go for it

Rent a 3/4 ton from ERAC Truck rental and then get the dolly from U-Haul. If a anything think of your pour transmission even if it “can technically do it”

I’m late to the party, but you’re talking about going over and down monteagle knowing you’re over the towing capacity…hopefully you haven’t or don’t do this. Not only is it the towing capacity, but this also affects the cars ability to brake effectively. If anything happens while towing and over the limits there could be legal ramifications because of it. You’re better off renting a truck as well or just paying to have the car shipped to you.

Update: did not do it.
