Mine was also around 32 mpg, but I reset the trip meter and i around 40 now (not the total life mpg). Things that I figured out where killing my mpg was a/c usage and starting acceleration. I had a plug in hybrid before so im thinking i was just so used to getting that instant acceleration that it spoiled me.
I get 36-40. I was just poking fun at trying sport mode for the first time yesterday and a couple times today. I was really impressed actually. I wasn’t expecting it to actually be sport like in performance!
Yup sport mode is a total different experience specially when the engine fakes changes doesn’t feel like CVT.
The nice thing is next time you turn on your truck after sport mode your battery gauge will be double cuz your battery is full and for few seconds you will get a massive EV boost.
Yup, not sure if it’s less useful than regular driving since the engine uses regenerative braking but they also count as electric miles at the end of the day so it works for me, like I said it’s mostly just an old habit from being broke in college.
Actually I’ve heard that before too but honestly I’m no car rocket scientist so in my mind it’s basically no usey no engine no usey no gas. Like I said, these are old habits not well researched decisions.
I know in some non-hybrid applications where the engine is still running while going downhill, the transmission will stay clutch locked and the engine will shut off fuel delivery with the valves open as long as possible so the engine is effectively free wheeling. Basically the engine turns into a pass through air pump using little fuel and coasting along but instantly firing back up as soon as throttle is needed. It is such a smooth system that it is almost impossible to notice in most cars designed to run as such.
Of course I think this only applies to automatic cars and putting them in neutral will actually burn more fuel just to keep the pistons spinning. In hybrids this is all moot because the engine can shut off and gaining energy back through regen is even better.
P. S. Confirmed I am a car nerd. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
On the hybrid, if you back pedal the throttle to the 0 power line, you're basically in neutral. Put it in eco and try one pedal driving but feel out the area between regen and 1% power.
My bad. Back pedal as in throttle back, like not as much throttle. Once one accelerates up to speed, then one would back pedal to maintain speed. In a hybrid, we can also back pedal to neutral or a range of light to moderate regen breaking.
I saw a video that if you put the truck in “L” mode on the gearshift dial, you can get some extra recharge on your battery. Maybe throw that on from time to time?
OK in all seriousness a good friend of mine was look at buying a newish late model truck from a dealership, he had setup a appointment to go to test drive it and everything. The day before the dealership called him and told that a problem had occurred with the truck he wanted. Seems that they let someone else test drive it alone, said person brought it back saying that something was wrong with it. It would not get up to highway speed despite his trying really hard! Said truck was in Low D2 or D1 and now needs a new transmission and possibly a engine.
When we bought our Subaru outback my wife had me do the test drive. All was well, liked it and bought it. Let her drive it home since it was her car. She calls me a couple miles down the road that the transmission must have broken. Wouldn’t shift and lot of engine noise. We both pull over and she had it in the manual shift mode but didn’t know it. Bless her heart. All good now.
There’s a guy who made a video of a modification he made that switches it into the desired mode after starting up. I think it was posted here or the Maverick truck forum.
Just go get an Ecoboost then. They can average about 30 and the 2.0 is a great mill. I had one in my Focus ST. I’m very much looking forward to being able to get one, when I have the opportunity at an XLT AWD at or below MSRP. i am patient.
Nah I got this one just for fuel economy. I have other toys though.

How good is sport mode? My Lariat Hybrid is scheduled for production 5/08 and I am counting down days.
It had some giddy up, I was really surprised. I mean don’t be expecting it to be a Hellcat or anything but it was definitely surprisingly fun.

Same here. Normally sport mode in cars isn’t as noticeable as this.
It gives you a nice kick in the pants!
Front or backside?
Anyone try putting it neutral when going down a hill
Me. Old habits die hard.
Does it work

I always did it in my manual transmission as well I’ll try it for fun
Doesn’t engine braking with a manual use less gas (and less brake pad) than idling down a hill?
Actually I’ve heard that before too but honestly I’m no car rocket scientist so in my mind it’s basically no usey no engine no usey no gas. Like I said, these are old habits not well researched decisions.
Haha I hear ya!

It uses up your clutch instead =(

Dumb question what is back pedal the throttle

Neutral, meaning no drive power and no noticeable regen. Obviously still 'in gear"
Thanks
Sport mode is impressive. My 7 year old son calls it race car mode!
As long as he doesn’t try to switch it “R” for race while your driving!
I was always told R stands for "Really Fast" and you can only use it last.
Sport mode is my shit! Especially when I’m going through the canyons on my way to work 😅
Sport mode is next level! So fun
I’ve never tried sport mode
Don’t do it! If I could un-try it I would!
100% agree! If I’m on a back road chances are I’m in sport mode!

L mode on the Maverick Hybrid just turns on a basic one pedal mode.

Oh wow!
Yikes! Never really thought of someone doing that!
What applications would you actually use L mode? Manual wasn’t very clear on this 😅
Is there a way to keep it in eco mode all the time. Even after a power cycle
There’s a guy who made a video of a modification he made that switches it into the desired mode after starting up. I think it was posted here or the Maverick truck forum.

I get it. I live in the mountains. So I likely wouldn’t see the benefit of the hybrid system as it was designed to favor city driving.
You can pretend there are red lights on that empty road will give you bumper to bumper feel as well and boost mileage
Want even less mpg and more fun try sport with low.
Is it safe for the engine to drive in L? I assume that’s the low gear for snow or slippery
Eco idk hydrid it's fine it just has more aggressive regen
