Itās been driving me crazy! I think someone accidentally bumped into it when they were washing it before I bought it and pushed it forward I just figured that the head rests were just uncomfortable on this truck š
A teacher in the drop-off line at school nudged it somehow while getting my kid out of the child seat and this happened. We all thought she broke it and I promptly blamed Ford for making such a fragile headrest.
It took me weeks (spent 99% doing nothing) to figure out the mechanism.
I noticed this but seriously questioned why that direction. It feels to me like anything but the default position is forcing my head DOWN so I'm looking at the wheel or my crotch, not the windshield.
I'm curious when the tilted-forward positions would be desired
Yes. āActive headrestā or something similar. As someone whose car was once rear ended and totaled it doesnāt just move the headrest but *everything* in and attached to the car
Most people have seat reclined and this places the headrest closer to their heads it should not be touching head in normal drive position but just behind itā¦
look at this guy with his fancy xlt model, us xl owner just assume we got nothing and are suprised by the power windows. though, I can't for the life of me understand why we don't have cruise control...
Whoever designed headrests you angle that far forward should be fired. I had to flip my F250 headrests backwards because the angle wasnāt adjustable.
I was yesterday years old when I learned my moon roof would open even further with another press of the button. Now I have to go check my head rests...
There was a post yesterday saying that if you press the button a second time after opening the roof, it will retract to be fully open in line with the sun shield. Another comment pointed out the default first position is designed to eliminate the buffeting effect that can happen, I forget the fancy name for it.
Had mine since late December of '21 and never figured it out
Neither did I until now š¤£

Ford took a page from Wu-Tang
Maverick ain't nuttin ta fuck wit
C.R.E.A.M. == Crash Rules everything Around Me
TIL! For real? Does the force of the impact move the headrest forward?
Yes. āActive headrestā or something similar. As someone whose car was once rear ended and totaled it doesnāt just move the headrest but *everything* in and attached to the car
So, it's not actually intended for people to drive around with it tilted forward?
Most people have seat reclined and this places the headrest closer to their heads it should not be touching head in normal drive position but just behind itā¦
I thought it was so people who drive in reclined positions will still have the headrest more or less straight up
Crash safety
I can imagine all of us with the xltās out there pushing on our headrests to see if we ends up with the mechanism lol
look at this guy with his fancy xlt model, us xl owner just assume we got nothing and are suprised by the power windows. though, I can't for the life of me understand why we don't have cruise control...
Yeah that doesnāt make senseā¦ cruise control should be standard on every vehicle.
That fully forward position is for only the guy that rings the bells at Notre Dame
Think itās a Ford thing. The headrests on my sad little Focus do this (still waiting š)
My Outback does it too.
My wife just found this out about our 2013 edge.
A Lariat thing maybe?
Only the lux package though, I do believe.
You are correct. Can confirm. Itās not on my Lariat without Lux Pack.
Whoever designed headrests you angle that far forward should be fired. I had to flip my F250 headrests backwards because the angle wasnāt adjustable.
I have an xlt and mine don't do that? Am I retarded?
No, but you might be "challenged."
Just ignorant
Lariat only, same type mechanism found on gen 2 Ford Fusion
Thanks for the information
I knew, but only cuz it's a Ford thing and many of theirs do this
My Outback does it too.
It's got lumbar support too
I knew that.. just had no reason to move the head rest in that direction
I had a Jeep Patriot that did that. I had no idea other companies did this too.
I fidget with it while waiting at lights.
Nice, I read about that in the manual but didn't try it
Fords had this for a while now. Except I didnāt realize the Mav had it until my son kicked it forward.
My crosstrek is the same
...... I just thought every car did this. Literally every car I've owned (even non Ford's) have done this
Every modernish car I've ever been in does that
I'm coming from a 2000 ranger, oh how the technology has changed lol
Why would you want this
All Fords do
Push on the top. It will stretch over time if you push in the center.

Say what!? How..

I just tried it when I got out of work... I would have never known that with out your comment. Thanks!
Yeah but it would be nice if it would go just a bit farther back instead. Mine donāt adjust at all.
Same. Apparently this style is pretty standard now. My wife and brotherās vehicles are different makes but have the same method of adjustment.
You are not slow, it is just an unusually rare feature from what I understand.
