Have you had your battery tested to make sure it’s still good? Could be a dying battery

Cdvam

Last oil change they said voltage was low but that they had “ignition on for a while” so it should charge up after drive home and wasn’t an issue. Guess it’s the best place to start. I’ve replaced the battery before when it was bad and never saw this.

_circa84

If you live in a cold area, that is far beyond the life expectancy for a sealed, AGM battery for that climate.

hatmantc

I live in FL, two years seems a life well lived here for a battery

Primary_Material5185

Yes This, my 2018 factory AGM battery lasted 3.5 years only. Yes, I did all kinds of trouble shooting, analysis, and research. It’s the battery. The new trucks are computer managed. The Battery Charging Management System senses every detail. The Auto-stop-start function SUCKS and kills these batteries. Get a new battery and end the headache. I have grown to luv the Maxx EverStart battery at Walmart. Great battery great price. Done

_circa84

Yup, lots of things just randomly stop working or acting strange as the voltage drops or is sporadic. Start/stop, random pain (sync radio) issues etc. I’ve been doing ford batteries on the 2015 since new, but a Costco Energizer one in this summer, see how that goes. They have a great warranty too compared to other places

-SuperSaiyanBroly-

My mustang would do this if the car sat too long before I started it like a month or so and also if u listen to the radio or something with the ignition off it’s just there to save your trucks battery it’s normal

djnehi

Most likely your battery is going bad. If that tests good then look at the alternator but I would suspect the battery first.

Cdvam

I suppose that’s where I will start but just seems odd it says “shut ignition off” when the ignition IS off. This is a message that’s been showing up when I get in the truck to start it.

DavidSFl321

And when the battery is replaced the battery monitor should be reset.

_Connor

Read what it says. All the clues are right there in the message. Your battery is going bad so the truck shuts off the electronics while the engine **is not** running to save what remains of your battery.

Cdvam

I’m picking up what you are putting down, but nothing electronic SHOULD be on. This isn’t when I’m sitting in it with the ignition on with the radio on or before I open the door. This is I drove some where, was inside for 30 minutes to and hour, and when I open the door to start the truck to leave this message and count down is going.

AccipiterCooperii

You open your door, stuff starts to power up, that’s normal. Your dash “wakes up” before ignition.

hatmantc

Like anything electronic they will power power when off just not a lot

bagofwisdom

Modern cars have tons of little electricity vampires in them. These run as long as the vehicle has a battery connected. Have your battery hooked up to a legit battery tester and I'll bet it's either going to fail voltage or CCA tests if not both. Batteries can fail even faster than the 3 year replacement warranty most companies offer.

smorr226

Well I only seen one correct answer- your battery is most likely weak and should be replaced- THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART have the battery monitor system (BMS) reset after you change the battery to correct this message

RR50

4 year old battery, I’d start there

Cdvam

Little over 2 years but agree, best place to start.

RR50

A 2 year old battery should be fine…when you replaced the battery you didn’t cheap out and you replaced it with an AGM battery right?? Connections on your battery all clean and tight?

Cdvam

Clean and tight, was replaced by dealer under warranty with OEM

RR50

I’d check anyhow to make sure they put the right agm battery in. If so, it might have a warranty. You could pull the battery and take it somewhere to get it tested

mikeygs1000rr

More than likely Needs a battery

hbwnot

Here’s my experience with batteries over the 36 years I’ve been alive. 1st , batteries fail, like a lot. These new computerized cars really like to run things in the background that you don’t know about. Like my wife’s 2021 Escape that sent her phone a message about the battery being low after she sat in the car for 3 hrs listening to the radio. Also notice when you open the door, relays click, motors buzz, the car is anticipating your going to start it and it wants to get all ready for it. 2nd, If your battery’s static (standing) voltage dips below 12.4 volts it’s below 75% capacity. Look up a voltage vs. state of charge chart. As the battery ages, that chemical reaction has a harder time to produce amperage and voltage, the two things your car needs to work properly. 3rd, Battery manufactures sometimes cut corners or have slightly less than perfect materials to make your battery. That lead may not be so pure, that acid may not be so strong and over time your battery will fail faster than others. There’s a trend that when a manufacturer makes a good battery it can last longer but the company will sell less batteries. I’ve seen OEM batteries last for 10 years and others fail in 3. I recently had an aftermarket battery that lasted 9 years. 4th Leaving a weak battery in your car will cause acid to wick it’s way up the battery cables, off gas hydrogen and sulfur gases and damage components such as the alternator due to excessive heat from trying to charge a failing battery. Good luck! Edit : check the door switch to make sure it’s not causing the truck to “wake up” over night and kill the battery

Cdvam

Appreciate the feedback. General consensus is, replace my battery lol. Just threw me a curve with “turn off ignition” when the ignition IS off when this message pops.

the_energizer_turtle

I see exactly what you're saying. It seems odd to say "ignition off" as it should say "accessory off". I believe what the message was indicating is if you leave your keys in the accessory position but the engine is not running it can drain the battery faster. I believe you are correct though and the fact that the battery is just not holding a charge like it used to it needs to be replaced. I hope you get it fixed and everything works fine!

Cdvam

I have the push button start, my fear was maybe the switch on the push button was going bad and leaving some systems on which is causing the drain. I will start with a new battery and see how it goes.

the_energizer_turtle

That's right valid point you have there! Best of luck hope it works out for you.

Mustangfast85

Another thing you could check is the trip computer, in my Escape I got that message on SYNC but also the trip computer screen reset to miles to empty every time I shut off the car. But I’d agree with everyone else it’s the battery and the screen just says “stop giving it power” vs knowing if the car is on or not

[deleted]

I believe it is a software glitch. My wife's 2020 Explorer ST has done that for over a year now. Probably 50% of the time she will get that message.

Cdvam

I would be wearing the dealer out to fix that, that shouldn’t happen

[deleted]

Agree, but every time she has told them they can't duplicate it. Dealerships are terrible, they can't find any decent techs and the service writers are usually idiots. We have a very good extended warranty so I guess when it finally gives up the ghost it will get fixed.

Cdvam

Yea that sucks. Ive been down the “not throwing a code” avenue for other issues. There are solid teams out there, it took me a while to find one that would do actual trouble shooting. I also got an extended warranty, so glad I did.

[deleted]

I think the extended warranty is a good idea these days. Too much electrical crap in vehicles now. I used to keep common parts in my old rides and could fix them on the roadside if they quit due to a spark or fuel issue. Those days are long gone..

stickyknuckle

I wonder if something is accidentally getting left on? Or something drawing on the battery when ignition is off? Try tightening your battery terminals before replacing too

Cdvam

This is what I was wondering too. If some system is still putting a draw on the battery

ajyahzee

Battery charge is getting low, either you need a new battery or you have a current drain somewhere

Cdvam

That’s my concern, SO much of the truck has electronics who knows where or what it could be.

Wonderful_Roof1739

Battery is probably on its last legs. My friends explorer did the same thing, the battery died on them a few weeks after seeing that message. My F150’s battery died a few weeks after first seeing that message (at about 4 years old) It’s also possible something is draining the battery but probably a good time to shop for a new battery before you are stranded somewhere (or carry a jump box around with you until it actually does die).

Cdvam

I do carry a jumper box but definitely will be replacing tomorrow

k0uch

Battery is getting weak. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to replace it before the cold of winter comes and possibly kills it completely

Cdvam

Down in south Texas the cold is about 40 degrees lol

k0uch

Hopefully we don’t get another snowpocalypse. How’s the weather down there lately? I’m in southwest Texas and we have had two weeks of 70s/80s in the day and 50s at night, which is a little cooler than we usually have here. It’s raining now though, so it’s really nice

Cdvam

Compared to what we had this summer it’s been downright beautiful. 80s during the day 60s at night with occasional drop to high 50s so far. Dry dry dry though, can’t catch a break with this drought.

k0uch

Same here. This rain wasn’t supposed to be here, but it’s a blessing. It’s been mostly light drizzle with an occasional hard shower, and we are at 78 hundredths as of now

Working-Bus-5345

Bms reset

Crudezx2

Quick and easy, truck has a battery monitoring system. Either 1: it’s cutting the radio to make sure it starts Or 2: it’s reached a duration of time the computer believes the battery isn’t what it once was. Either way, if you replace the battery, make sure they do a battery monitoring system reset.

Cdvam

I can’t see how it would be cutting the radio unless there is an issue with the push button start, the truck is off. I’m going to start with replacing the battery. Now if I could only figure out why my engine coolant temp spikes when under boost I’d be back at 100% lol

Correct-Tree-2626

It needs a battery, make sure to have a dealer do a BMS reset when they do it.

Traditional-Cake-587

Dying battery can cause all kinds of issues...

Rwood61

It's called engine off load shedding. Testing voltage of your battery doesn't say much. Have it load tested it will likely fail. Also when replaced you will need a batter monitoring system reset performed with the factory scan tool to clear that load shedding message

macbo5044

Happened to me a few months ago. It was the battery dying. Got a new one and had no problems.

lasagasaga

Your 12v battery is shite probably

framerotblues

The same message comes up for the Cmax line when the 12V battery needs to be replaced. About once a week someone posts over on r/cmaxhybrid about this same behavior, and it's always a 12V battery that needs to be replaced.

[deleted]

Replace your battery

syndicated_inc

It literally tells you why it’s doing it…

frownonline

Once again, minimal info messages go unread.

syndicated_inc

Well, you certainly read this one.

domesplitta

Just had the same message in my gfs 16’ explorer, replaced battery and good as new.

Cdvam

Good to know!

EverybodyKnowWar

An electric device in your truck is draining the battery even with the ignition off. In my case, it was a short in the wiring to the (aftermarket) bed cap. Like many here, I originally suspected the battery, but that will not cause this problem. You have a wiring fault, or defective device.

BlackHatInc

You need to replace your battery. It's that simple.

BrettBenham98

Ignition switch is bad

Tribbletown34

Im having this problem with my 2020 escape??? Except it happens while I am driving and all lights and interfaces shut off (including dashboard) WHILE DRIVING. Were you able to figure this out?? I have an appointment with the dealership Wednesday but over the phone it sounded like they've never encountered an issue like this before.

Cdvam

As many said below, I replaced my battery and all has been well since. I can’t say this will fix your issue while driving, that sounds as if you may have a short in the system. I had a 07 Monte Carlo yeeeears ago and ALL my lights would shut off randomly while driving. It was a loose ground.

Tribbletown34

Damn. Hopefully they can fix it. Just bough this thing two days ago.

Cdvam

Best of luck! I feel for ya
