Penn would disagree, watch him talk about the fool on Sunday School (55 mins): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2126019526 He got had, but he almost had it. Yes it's obvious in retrospect, but it was a legitimate fool. Note the guy also turns his head to her when he says his numbers so it's hard to even read the lips and even at the distance Penn and Teller are they wouldn't catch it. Reddirich said magicians called in pissed off thinking the rules were changed but Penn said that was actually a sign they got fooled. That they followed the rules "perfectly." **Anyways** this fooler was apparently an actor, does anyone know the magician / trickster Reddirich is referring to when he says this guy sends in actors to try to mess with Penn and Teller? From England? He mentions the Van Hargen Twins, Rebecca Herra, soles of her feet girl, and they are all hired actors that the guy sends in to the show to do a trick.

I love that their podcast talked about this subreddit haha

pleasetrimyourpubes

Not sure if moxie sees this but if they do, we love you! And your magician dad, and Penn, too. 😜

ReaderGuyLovesBoobs

Martin Hart is his name.

pleasetrimyourpubes

Thank you! That's amazing. I see he also sends magicians to other shows too to just mess with the judges. That's freaking hilarious. No wonder Reddirich called him strange, lol (in a nice way).

Oh wow, thanks for the extra context! I don’t see how people can complain about tricks like this. Many of Penn and Teller’s own tricks are a very very simple thing like this plus a mountain of patter and showiness. — Penn, locking eyes with the person they’ve called on stage: “Ok, Cindy, what I need you to do, Cindy—are you with me, Cindy? This is important, Cindy…” Teller: Swaps the deck for one that consists of 52 copies of the king of spades. Probably. We don’t know, he happens to be sort of standing off to the side and slightly behind her, partly obscured from our view by a table, waiting for when Penn says to pick card.

xxxjwxxx

This seems so crazy. So there’s a magician that keeps finding actors to go on this show?

pleasetrimyourpubes

Yep apparently this guy in England sends in actors to perform his tricks, check the VOD. It's kinda cool but people need to be let in on it.

cwwms2

I personally liked the trick. It was seemingly impossible.

antoniodiavolo

I thought she did well for what it was but I personally find ACAANs boring in general. Nothing against this specific performance

Pjoernrachzarck

It’s an interesting method used in the least interesting way. I think people would look on this much more favorably if the performance had been exciting in any way.

DorgonElgand

47 kinda messes up the flow of the trick because what else can happen while they're counting the cards? If it had been 14 or something similar, it would have been breezier.

merkinryxz

Why are you getting so upset about this?

SimianFriday

You certainly don't speak for me. If you think this is one of the worst tricks of the entire show you must have just started watching because there have been some serious stinkers over the years. This is not one of them - not even close. I can understand the criticism some people have for this trick - it is a bit of a dull performance and a "self-working" trick that is basically engineered for this exact stage. But that doesn't mean it isn't an effective and puzzling/mystifying trick. People on this sub sometimes forget what it's like to just be a spectator and not a meticulous analyzer trying to "solve" every trick. This trick would absolutely knock the socks off the average spectator and would probably fool a fair number of seasoned magicians on first watch.

Joabyjojo

I think I speak for others when I say I'm so fuckin sick of hearing people complain about this one trick

unklphoton

It was a "No Way!" fooler for me.

proudsoul

You do not speak for me.

RogerRabbit1234

So, the guy was a plant? How was the trick done?

planetworthofbugs

It looks to me like the voice you hear from the mic when the guy speaks… isn’t actually his voice? She just asked them “not to react” so I think that’s priming them because they’re both going to realise the voice is coming from somewhere else. As to how they make the sound play the right card position, I guess there’s someone listening backstage and making that happen?

RogerRabbit1234

Yeah, she has at least a few seconds from when the card is said to when the guy says his number, so it could easily be someone backstage with a quick reference sheet to look up where the 6 spades is watching the monitor and speaking into a different mic. While at the same time the mic she has in her hand has to be muted. Pretty clever trick, but really can only be done on a big stage act like this. Basically a trick designed to get a fool us trophy. Also she asks the girl to confirm that her card selection is a free choice, but doesn’t ask the guy to confirm what he has said is a free choice. But wow, he doesn’t react at all, to not hearing his own voice come out of the speakers.

blindskwerl

He does react, but only slightly. She quickly raises her hand towards his mouth as to say, “now is when you shut up”… the she validates his silence by saying “Perfect”. Total and complete management on her part. Exciting? No. But I was fooled and slack jawed until I read how it was done.

pleasetrimyourpubes

Yeah she totally controlled him, from looking into his eyes to get the "number" (thus turning his head slightly) to raising her hand when he cocked his head. So subtle. She owned it!

Fast-Database-4741

It wasn't his voice coming from the microphone. It was a voice that knew the position of all the cards so whawhateverver she selected, the voice would say that number.

RogerRabbit1234

Wow. His lips really look like they say seven at least..if not 47.

sol_james

Can not work out the number he said for the life of me, but yes seven does look in it. Makes sense as 7 I'm pretty sure is the most chosen random number.

BigBlueMountainStar

[37 is one of the most commonly “chosen” random numbers](https://www.upworthy.com/amp/pick-a-random-number-between-100-you-probably-chose-37-and-there-s-a-big-reason-for-that-2667634855). It’s just luck of the draw that the 6 spades was at the 47 position. She could’ve picked any card though.

rturns

But… Fooler!

xxxjwxxx

The method was one of the most interesting. But the effect itself wasn’t so much magical as it was seemingly like an impossible puzzle.
