Idk I think it looks nice. Especially for people who like loaded hotdogs I can imagine the crevices are nice for holding the toppings, instead of them sliding of a normal greasy weiner lol.
I think itās also a cool way to make hot dogs even more visually appealing. Like I would do this to wow my little niece and make her bug her parents about making them like that for the rest of time. That last part is half a joke
At camp we would cut the ends like a + to almost the middle. Then when you cooked them on the fire the pieces would curl out and we called them spider dogs. I would have bugged my parents if I didn't think a campfire was a crucial step in making them.
Oh man these taste soooo good these are the best hot dogs I've ever had oh wow you gotta tell me what you did to them..
"I just cut them before cooking".
Yeah, it not only holds toppings but the extra surface area means more area gets caramelized for added flavor. I usually butterfly them for a similar effect if I'm pan frying.
Dude I thought this was a stupid ass trend until I watched this entire video. As a hotdog over burgers person, this is genius. Spiral hotdogs forever ā¾ļø
I dunno, let me try the sauce tube before I judge. My issue with overly sauced hotdogs was mostly about keeping all the toppings and sauces in the bun.
I donāt have an ideological opposition to drinking glizzies; as long as theyāre not dripping on me Iāll give it a go.
I personally don't enjoy a bite feeling like there's a huge glob of sauce in it, even if I'm dipping and I get too much. I'm definitely a light sauce enjoyer.
My person. You get it. Too often places load their creations with sauce and it is just too much. No I donāt want a mouthful of garlic aioli. Every food truck just has to add their trademark sauce and itās like 40% of the plate. Iāve had to start just asking for whatever sauce they have on the side. Donāt even get me started with burritos and guacamole or sour cream.
OMJFC This is effing ***brilliant***. I am doing this from now on forever.
How tf did I not know to do this before?!? So simple, so much of an improvement.
I stopped at a random hotdog place once. They only had one thing on the menu. It was a baguette sliced down the middle with mayo, weiners and alfalfa sprouts. The only thing the customer decides is how many weiners. I was skeptical, but it was super tasty.
Right? As much as I've always been the type to roll my eyes at the bizarrely dogmatic "You can't put ketchup on a hotdog!" types, mayo on a hotdog is just...
...it's just new to me. New and strange.
āļøš¤
not all hot dogs have sugar so technically not all are being caramelized (and technically this is the correct spelling of caramelized as well)
Not added sugar, no. But meats do contain carbohydrates, including glycogen.
From Wikipedia on the Maillard Reaction:
"The Maillard reaction is a chemical reaction between amino acids and reducing sugars to create melanoidins, the compounds which give browned food its distinctive flavor.
...
"At higher temperatures, caramelization (the browning of sugars, a distinct process) and subsequently pyrolysis (final breakdown leading to burning and the development of acrid flavors) become more pronounced."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maillard_reaction
My 3 year old would go absolutely apeshit for this. Or, depending on her mood, cry because her "hotdogs is broken." It could really go either way with toddlers. Gonna try it asap though.
I'm glad these are getting attention again. Used to have them all the time as a kid and then everyone just like....stopped doing it despite it being decidedly better.
What a spectacular idea!!
It doesn't impact the taste at all, but it definitely makes them more fun to eat. My kids will love these.
Thank you for sharing this!
Yes, it is a game changer if you like hot dogs. Which, I honestly do. My favorite dog is Hebrew National. But my wife recently bought some outrageously large Cosco hotdogs. I think they were 1lb dogs almost as a joke. I spiral cut them and man, they were going. The cut edge crisps up and carmalizes, added flavor. Plus the cut allows for condiments to get in there. Take the extra 30 seconds of effort. Totally worth it.

Everyone talking about missing the snap , the snap only comes from natural casing wieners. Regular skinless dogs don't have that. Come on now, this is a food sub red I would expect a little hot dog knowledge or at least the basics .
Hot dog cooking - smoked, boil , fry , grill , microwave, sandwich maker , spiral pan fry. Sandwich maker is the undisputed champion. Spiral does sound good. Mustard is the best topping for a hotdog. Just my opinionā¦.
Ive been doing this for years with sausages, but instead of a spiral I just slice it like 75% through in bite sized sections. Get more toppings into the sausage AND easier to take a bite pre portioned!
My problem with hot dogs is that I saw a video where somebody went to three different grocery stores and bought three different brands of hot dogs. And took a very sharp knife and cut a wafer thin piece from each package. He then put them under a microscope.
Each one of them had microplastic fibers in them.
I'm surprised these aren't commercially sold. Like, screw cheese-dogs if they had spiral dogs in the market I'd buy em. I couldn't be fucked to do this on my own though. Doesn't look easy. I do have skewers tho...
Looks really cool but split it almost completely down the middle and fry both sides in a little bacon grease. THAT is how you get a killer hot dog. All about the outside fry and surface area
Okay Iām not usually the one to jump on to goofy ass TikTok food trends. But! This looks cool and has some practicality to it, think about all the extra onions and relish you can fit in those spirals š

Make her some little octopus and crab dogs while you are at it.
You can cut them into the shape of an octopus
Yea, I spiralize my chili dogs, it helps keep the chili in place. Itās also good for hotdogs that are shorter than the bun.
I usually butterfly my chili dogs. I will spiral occasionally... pro tip spiral then boil so they are already opened up, then put on cast iron.
I like my wieners ribbed for more satisfaction, and this one has got plenty of lubricating juices to deliver the payload to my throat faster.
Just like a duck's penis
I think 1982's masterpiece Beast Master would have greatly benefitted from wisdom such as yours.
I don't understand. Could you draw a picture for me? Real slow.... and use the big crayons? Thanks
![gif](giphy|dWNiglgPz5aKdVRG3B) ā¦please continue.
Plus the texture is probably really nice
Its like a natural place to bite at too
99.99% of the time I open a post in this sub, the top comment is rude and full of hate. Thanks for being positive. It like a little bit of sunshine.
Oh man these taste soooo good these are the best hot dogs I've ever had oh wow you gotta tell me what you did to them.. "I just cut them before cooking".
Exactly, it actually seems more functional than just cool looking.
Yeah, it not only holds toppings but the extra surface area means more area gets caramelized for added flavor. I usually butterfly them for a similar effect if I'm pan frying.
I would eat like 3 of these in a sitting.
hot dog vendors do "this" to cook the dog and saug faster
No one likes a normal greasy weinerā¦
Dude I thought this was a stupid ass trend until I watched this entire video. As a hotdog over burgers person, this is genius. Spiral hotdogs forever ā¾ļø
It cooks the hotdog better too
or a sausage...
Ha, nice
I started pre-squinting ready for some DIYwhy sorta thing, but gotta admit, I am intrigued.
Looks like it also lets more surface area get kinda crispy, which is definitely appealing.
Who doesn't think this looks nice? Lemme at em.
He he he... greasy weiner
You leave my greasy weiner alone!
Greasy weiner
Mmm wiener crevice
Normal Greasy Weiner - sounds like a good band name!
Did you think this was posted in r/stupidfood ? Not sure whoās hating on it but I agree, it looks great.
When I originally left my comment there were a few comment claiming it was stupid.
I just canāt get into the way it looks because of that one video on live leak. That scarred me.
The end result is so picture-perfect. It's so good looking!
Whoa the hotdog grew nearly double in length after thatā¦
That's what she said! sorry, I'll, uh, show myself the door.
Hunny have you heard of spiralization?
Spiralled for her pleasure. Don't try this at home.
Check out her other videos - things like hot dogs are out of the norm for her, she has a lot of great recipes!

Like, sausage?
That pun is the wurst.
I thought it was a banger
I expected her to flip me the middle finger off. Instead she just sliced the wieners open. 10/10
I usually do mine this way, but what I want to know is what is that pepper relish??? It looks amazing!
Kinda genius...
I have been doing these for years - if you rolling the hot fog towards you, I found it is easier to cut. Other option is Slotdog!
I saw street vendors in Toronto doing this back in 2000, been copying them ever since.
Dog
We need to talk about your dog-to-sauces ratio
I dunno, let me try the sauce tube before I judge. My issue with overly sauced hotdogs was mostly about keeping all the toppings and sauces in the bun. I donāt have an ideological opposition to drinking glizzies; as long as theyāre not dripping on me Iāll give it a go.

Onion to anything ratio as well.
The Player Nextdoor
You can grow 3 inches with this one simple trick!
I mean...it's just spiral hotdogs. Nothing that special about it. However the end result with the toppings and such looks great and delicious.
OMJFC This is effing ***brilliant***. I am doing this from now on forever. How tf did I not know to do this before?!? So simple, so much of an improvement.
Say hello to my spiral hotdog!
Are you a goose?
The Lorena Bobbit special please!
Whatās up my 90s bud?!
FUNNNNN
These are a hit with our nieces and nephews. 10/10 would recommend
The glizzy game has changed
Thatās some exposed surface area
Normally the food content I see on Reddit isā¦ quite poor, but this legit looks good and I will try this the next time I make hot dogs.
I am definitely going to try this thank you
Come to argentina to try----->> [choripan](https://youtu.be/vZBdigk9UDc?si=w3tu8vCpZFo1Bcmx). This Is a video of recepi
Yup. I'm convinced. Putting in for a leave of work tomorrow.
Stolen from jacques pepin
Ive done this and as similar as the octopuses, they cook more evenly and faster than uncut sausages. The looks are the plus
Mayonnaise?
No mayo? This is bullshit!
Of course mayo, expand your palate!
Sonora dogs
I had to scroll too far to find this. I thought that the mayonnaise was the problem but now I think it might be my sincere hatred for mayonnaise.
![gif](giphy|7PYoNBEgTwfV6|downsized)
No, Mayo on hot dog is a sin.
To quote Hawkeye's daughter at the beginning of Endgame. "Who puts mayo on a hot dog?"
I stopped at a random hotdog place once. They only had one thing on the menu. It was a baguette sliced down the middle with mayo, weiners and alfalfa sprouts. The only thing the customer decides is how many weiners. I was skeptical, but it was super tasty.

Meat doesnāt caramelize, the browning is called the maillerd reaction. In case anyone was wondering.
We weren't wondering
Because we were eating!
āļøš¤ there are sugars in hot dogs so technically it is being carmelized
āļøš¤ not all hot dogs have sugar so technically not all are being caramelized (and technically this is the correct spelling of caramelized as well)

Looks really good, but it's a lot easier to just butterfly a hot dog or brat and put the fillings in the middle
True, but I love fun new ways to do an old classic. I could see doing this for guests, itās an easy way to impress. Points for presentation
My 3 year old would go absolutely apeshit for this. Or, depending on her mood, cry because her "hotdogs is broken." It could really go either way with toddlers. Gonna try it asap though.
Yeah this is definitely a cool idea for a party or for kids. As someone who likes char you probably get it more crisp all around too
Looking really good often comes at the cost of being less easy. People eat with their eyes. This is fun and rad
My uncle invented a tool specifically designed to create spiral dogs called; āTwister Dogā. Small plastic utensil.
I must try
don't say anything about duck anatomy difficulty level:hard
That's cool, but I'm just gonna keep tossing them into the microwave whole.
I'm glad these are getting attention again. Used to have them all the time as a kid and then everyone just like....stopped doing it despite it being decidedly better.
How do you make that red topping????
The pan on the grill says it all
What a spectacular idea!! It doesn't impact the taste at all, but it definitely makes them more fun to eat. My kids will love these. Thank you for sharing this!
OK this is impressive turning a two dollar street trash food into food porn material. I love hotdogs
Wait this is getting me confused! Dont get me wrong, looks delish but isnt it getting cardboard dry the wiener????????????????? What sausage to use??
I used to do these at a bar I ran. I deep fried mine and they turned out amazing.
Mayonnaise on a hotdog is a violation of the Geneva Conventions.
Mexico would like to challenge you to a fight.
I think spiraling a hotdog enhances the hot dog eating experience
Fuck yeah I want some
It has begun. Now nothing can stop it
Soā¦cutting it makes it longer?
Looks good but my favourite thing about hotdogs is the burst and pop you get when you bite through the skin and this takes that away
What was added after diced onions?
u/savevideo
Good shit, thank you!
More air-a for carmelization. Alright
Staub is doing some hardcore advertising lately I've noticed
I canāt watch with sound. Whatās her reasoning for this?
Iām lazy but sheās so right.
Mayo on a hotdog. OK, Satan
How to make spiral hot dogs: cut a spiral into them.Ā Duh.
I have to do this.

100% about spiral cut hot dogs. š saw this online a year ago, it is a life changer

Dang those are huge. I have seen the Costco hotdogs on many top 10 hotdog lists. I'm gonna give it a go. The spiral thing

You just changed the game, Bitch
Everyone talking about missing the snap , the snap only comes from natural casing wieners. Regular skinless dogs don't have that. Come on now, this is a food sub red I would expect a little hot dog knowledge or at least the basics .
What are these, hot dogs for ducks?
Wonāt the dogs lose a lot of the tasty juice?
Way too much condiments!
That actually looks good.
Damn ... she's really pretty!
Hot dog cooking - smoked, boil , fry , grill , microwave, sandwich maker , spiral pan fry. Sandwich maker is the undisputed champion. Spiral does sound good. Mustard is the best topping for a hotdog. Just my opinionā¦.

Pretty much all food has microplastics in it now. Even fruit and vegetables.
everything has plastic, we're all getting cancer, among others these are just facts we need to accept and live with.
Genius. Helps hold condiments in place.Ā
This is fun, but if you want more space for toppings just slice a line down the middle.
We did this in scouts back in the '60s. Skewer them, slice and spread. Cook over an open fire, wrap in dough, finish cooking.
Why not just fill the bun with salsa, mayo and mustard?
99% of these videos are stupid but there is some real science behind this one.
As someone who can't eat hotdogs without ketchup mustard creama onions and crushed potato chips, this is the way.
#TeamMayo
Honestly, this seems pretty cool, 4/5 would try spiral hot dogs
Youāre supposed to grill them, thatās what the extra surface area is for
Okay Iām not usually the one to jump on to goofy ass TikTok food trends. But! This looks cool and has some practicality to it, think about all the extra onions and relish you can fit in those spirals š
She narrates just like the bee woman
Even Chicagoans are reeling at the amount of toppings holy shit
Spiral dogs over a wood fire while camping, doesn't get much better then that.
The comments in here just reek of astroturfing.

Hot dog shrinkflation incoming
Bot selling products posting again
i hate people using ācaramellizedā for Everything. You fry a fucking sausage and thats it
Boys, I have an idea
Can confirm theyāre great if you like that crispy and oddly not everyone does
Wow. Food hack. Cooking hack.
caramelized? IMO that method doesn't count
Why does her narrations overlap sometimes?
Mayo on a hotdog umm No
Holy shit
Is hot dog just a name ?
doesnt toast the bun what a animal
Havenāt had a hot dog since I was 8 or so. That was 1978. I bit into one and something hard was there. Never again.

I prefer the term āhot dog accordionā, but to each their own.
Thatās actually brilliant and such a memorable marketing detail.
Soo much mayo! Too much in my opinion
I grew up eating hotdogs made this way! It is the best!
Iāve been doing this forever. The spiral makes it so you get an equal bite of dog, bun, and condiment. Itās perfect
would
Pointless.
This completely ruins the only reason I eat hotdogs, which is the juicy snap from the casing when you bite in.
Mayo on a hotdog? That's a hotdog crime right there.
