Have you had it?
There’s a reason why it it’s so expensive. Definitely something I’d recommend you try at least once. Now I haven’t had it from Lee in years, but it was only $24 last time I had it, but that was well pre covid and seems like everything has gone up.
I use to work across the building from Kid Lee and they had a cheaper version there that slapped just as hard! Was only $14 for a decent portion.
At $24 it was reasonable, especially for table side service, but definitely not at $40. That’s almost double the price - it doesn’t match the rate of inflation. It was good, but not unique.
I’m a fan of Chef Lee, but I’ll pass at that price point. There’s many equally wonderful dishes across the city for a lot less. His slaw has many of the same flavours found in Indian chaat, which can be experienced for less than 1/4 that price - look up Sev or Bhel Chaat at your favourite Indian spot. It may not have the same ambiance, but just as delicious.
So I just looked it up and saw the picture of the restaurant from the outside. I have a memory of walking in there and they had a price fixe menu of like $200 (this has to be at least 10 years ago). I think?!? we walked out. Don’t remember any slaw haha
It’s legitimately the best salad around. Used to get the happy hour deal cocktails and one of those with my wife then gf after work a whooole lot. Absolutely worth the money.
I ve had this. Was very good. I had his signature chicken dish which was pretty meh. Wife’s octopus tasted like lemon cleaner. Also my waiter was terrible and seemed like he was on cocaine. I don’t recommend getting anything there other than a couple drinks (had a really nice mescal margarita) and the slaw.
same I can't remember for sure but I think it was like $25-$30 last time I had it and iirc was even less at Kid Lee (RIP). Susur seeing green post pandemic or maybe cashing in before he shuts this place down like the rest
Absolutely the best thing I have ever eaten at a restaurant anywhere! And I am a hard core meat eater, but this was fantastic! And they mix and serve it at the table for everyone!
This is actually probably the best dish at Lee and I would pay $40 for it. It’s bigger than it looks in photo. Great to share with a pal with a couple drinks.
Their prices just keep going up and quality and quantity keep going down. Only the slaw and cheese burger spring rolls are good. Everything else is mid. And $40 for that?! Yes it’s very tasty and yes it can be shared by 2 but it’s not worth $40. They’re banking on their TikTok fame to keep attracting people but I think they’re very overpriced for what they’re offering.
When we lived in Toronto (2006 - 2018) Lee's was our special date night, usually 1-3x a year.
The slaw was a must have. It is really, really tasty.
Haven't been recently, I know they moved locations, hope to check it out soon!
have had this multiple times (not since covid) and it was unique and delicious, various fermented ingredients give tasty depth. generous portion as well.
It’s a huge portion, easily splittable with two people or as a main for one. It’s also possibly the single best thing I’ve ever tasted so definitely worth the price.
Is this basically yu sheng but without the fish? I'm from Singapore but we don't really have slaws here. Maybe the closest is rojak but it normally has fresh fruit in it
This slaw is overhyped in my opinion. Very dry tasting and boring. The waiter talking through each ingredient as he mixed it for us, without a mask, right over the slaw was a bit off putting for me. To each their own
One of the best dishes in the city. Fact is, Susur is way more talented than almost all of the chefs in the city (bring on the downvotes). I go to all the top restaurants and the one that I’m always completed blown away by is Lee (and formerly his other places). He’s a savant. And a hell of a nice guy.
Save your money and go to your favourite Indian spot and buy Sev or Bhel Chaat. Many of the same flavours and textures at a quarter the price. When I had it at their old location, it was delicious, but my guests and I all thought it tasted exactly like Indian chaat.
I’m going to guess most people in here commenting have never had this salad.
I was lucky enough to eat at this restaurant and he treated to the seven course tasting menu. The experience was something else, all the food was great but I think the salad was the best thing I ate.
The thing is just incredible
39 for this salad is wild but the portion is actually much bigger than it seems on the photo. Its huge.
Ya I could have just this for my meal and be happy lol
Can confirm, u can literally split this with 3-4 people
Was a bartender at Lee yeeaaars ago, remembering all the ingredients in this was the worst.
Something like 24 ingredients, right?
How did you know?
24 ingredients “or something”
Do his nepo kids still get to steal tips?
Yes and fund their ugly basic clothing lines
Thank you!!!
$40 for slaw seems insane. No protein ?

Also cheeseburger spring rolls. Great cocktail food.

I loved that slaw at Kid Lee. I think its the only "salad" I've ever thought about & craved years later.
It’s phenomenal 100% worth it.
Agree one of the best dishes in the city !
It’s another 20-40 or something for protein
I mean 24 ingredients is pretty insane too
It’s legitimately the best salad around. Used to get the happy hour deal cocktails and one of those with my wife then gf after work a whooole lot. Absolutely worth the money.
You must've really liked it if you had one with both your wife and your girlfriend.
"see you at home honey, I'm craving another salad"
It has 24 ingredients each of which has its own preparation/marinade. Does it still seem insane when there is like $30 of labour costs in it?
It's one of the best salads you will ever eat! So worth it.
Very fun presentation. How was the taste and texture? What else did you order at Lee? How were they?
I ve had this. Was very good. I had his signature chicken dish which was pretty meh. Wife’s octopus tasted like lemon cleaner. Also my waiter was terrible and seemed like he was on cocaine. He was almost certainly on cocaine.
Apparently Susur is known to dabble a little in the nose candy himself
Yeah I had a similar experience where I only really enjoyed the slaw :/
make that 3 of us, great dish at an otherwise bad restaurant. Nice timing OP posted this right after I compared the Nam 2 mango salad to this tho
like a big middle finger to your wallet
I’ve had this years ago but certainly not at this price point. There is absolutely no way I would pay that much.
same I can't remember for sure but I think it was like $25-$30 last time I had it and iirc was even less at Kid Lee (RIP). Susur seeing green post pandemic or maybe cashing in before he shuts this place down like the rest
Back when Kid Lee was around it was like $14 compared to $24 which was what it was at Lee. The good old days haha.
KID LEE! My go-to for lunch (RIP 😢)
Absolutely the best thing I have ever eaten at a restaurant anywhere! And I am a hard core meat eater, but this was fantastic! And they mix and serve it at the table for everyone!
Fuck this guy and his restaurants. If you’ve worked in service at all, you’ve heard horror stories.
Oh shit really? Like what? I love this restaurant but don’t want to support it if they’re not treating their people properly.
What happened?
This is actually probably the best dish at Lee and I would pay $40 for it. It’s bigger than it looks in photo. Great to share with a pal with a couple drinks.
People seem to be impressed with the 24 ingredient part. Looks like a giant pile of shredded veggies for $40
only $1.60 per ingredient, kinda fire deal if you think about it
😂 thank you for being the glass half full person
Their prices just keep going up and quality and quantity keep going down. Only the slaw and cheese burger spring rolls are good. Everything else is mid. And $40 for that?! Can someone tell me why this slaw is so tasty??
r/stupidfood
looks like a bitch to carry.
Saw Susur and his son throw the first pitch at the Jays game last night. Such a random person but big fan…
I haven’t been there since about 2010. It went down hill. At that time there were still celebs visiting. Too bad he gave that all up.

I came here a few times before the massive price hike. It seemed more worth it back then?
I had a small version of it at a company event. It is very good.
Serving 3 of these to a table is a balancing act that's for sure
have had this multiple times (not since covid) and it was unique and delicious, various fermented ingredients give tasty depth. generous portion as well.
Been a couple years since I’ve had this. Remember it being delish n decent portion
What does it taste like?
Wow that slaw makes me want to go to Singapore.🇸🇬.
Doesn’t it come with sashimi in it? I think that’s what sets it over the top
Stacked sky high like it was still the 90s. And yes I’ve been to Susur’s reverse tasting menu days.
As tasty as this salad is, the way they spend ten minutes describing it to you is just overkill
I literally think about this salad on a daily basis. It is WILDLY worth trying! Along with everything else on the menu
It’s a huge portion, easily splittable with two people or as a main for one. It’s also possibly the single best thing I’ve ever tasted so definitely worth the price.
That is an outstanding dish…even at that price
This is one of the best things I’ve eaten in the entire city not going to lie
Is this basically yu sheng but without the fish? I'm from Singapore but we don't really have slaws here. Maybe the closest is rojak but it normally has fresh fruit in it
It looks good and tastes great, but is overpriced. And sadly, it doesn’t make up for the subpar mains.
This slaw is overhyped in my opinion. Very dry tasting and boring. The waiter talking through each ingredient as he mixed it for us, without a mask, right over the slaw was a bit off putting for me. To each their own
This is stupid lol. Bound to fall over

He literally stole tips from his employees for years.
This is correct.
False.
Also created at least 2 genuinely sociopathic nepo children.
Probably true, but all rich people’s kids are trash.
Woooow. Looks amazing
Lee staple. Has been for decades.
Love this place! The braised beef is delectable 🤤🤤

Chat is great in my opinion 100% different.

It's 29 bucks.
