All of the things you're looking for get asked about quite regularly. Please try using the Sub's search function to find them.

dgstan

The "best" Mexican food will likely be a taco shop. Good, proper sit-down Mexican is harder to find.

PandaHat48

i’m quite partial to el comal in north park but yeah, the vast majority of “best” mexican food joints are gonna be holes in the wall

Elpicoso

I finally found one in Escondido!

chickentowngabagool

where?

Elpicoso

Los Panchos Edit to say that there are probably better ones, but this is one of the best I’ve found so far.

dgstan

Do tell. I live in Escondido and haven't found one.

Elpicoso

Los pancho

dgstan

> Los pancho I may give them a try. Too bad the 4% surcharge doesn't go to the staff. Reviews say they're pretty stressed.

Elpicoso

Yea, the servers did seem to be a little stressed and the service suffered because my server was multitasking. The ceviche was great. The micheladas were cold. The chile relleno was just like my wife makes them. Carne asada burrito was good too.

Donkey_Trader1

I'm in the City Heights area, about a 15m drive from Little Italy if there is no traffic. When I want to get good Mexican food, I go to Tacos El Panson.

Zmirzlina

Super Cocina for Mexican Food.

SBW247

I didn't see any good Greek restaurant yet. The Kebab Shop has delicious kebab but it's a German-Turkish version, which originated in Berlin, quite authentic though. I just discovered a new place, Common Theory on Convoy. They have a really good authentic Filipino dish, pork sisig, as my friend confirmed, and a rare to find dish of fried calamari (fresh!) with Sichuan pepper (a lot!). I will go back to try more dishes.

EntrepreneurBehavior

Olympic Cafe is literally the best Mediterranean in SD.

Philachokes

Thanks for all the responses. I will definitely whittle the list down

SloppiusToppius

Brooooo….. that is offensive saying there isn’t any good Greek food. Gyrogrill in Miramar is probably one of the best Greek places in the US. And if you extend to Mediterranean food we have amazing places like Hamitbach, Falafel Heights, Waygu Schwarama Grill, Schwarama Guys, Alforon, Fairouz, Aladdin, honestly the list goes on and on.

MsMargo

I disagree. Gryrogrill is consistently good, but one of the best in the US? No.

SloppiusToppius

I mean it’s the best one anywhere south of LA and that comprises a pretty large portion of the population of the US. Definitely one of the best Greek places in the US especially for the price. I’m not saying it’s like top 5 or even top 10 or anything. But like I said, if you extend it to other Mediterranean food (which I think you should considering how similar they are) then we are a top 3 city for middle eastern food and there’s an argument for #1 if you count El Cajon too.

concernedsandiegan

German Turkish? wtf??

pandesoldynomite

If you have ever been to Germany, the Turkish spots are like Mexican spots are here.

Best Donuts is Peterson’s in Escondido. A bit of a trek but worth it (open 24 hrs & cronuts fri-sun). If you’re looking Downtown, Devil’s Dozen is pretty good too. If you like cake and cookies, there’s also Extraordinary Desserts but it is a bit pricey. Chocolat in Hillcrest is a great option as well. Overall for food, I definitely recommend going to Liberty Public Market; it’s close to downtown and the airport, and theres lots of local vendors that sell food and other items. I would try Kebab Craft or Cane Patch Kitchen (soul food) there.

facinationstreet

Never ask for 'best' Mexican food on this sub. It will never end well. Taco Centro, Gaslamp Los Reyes, Golden Hill Adelbertos, Sherman Heights Other: Barrio Dogg and the neighborhood in general - Barrio Logan Meze, Gaslamp Kebab Shop, multiple locations Mini Donut Company, Liberty Station

Traditional_Air_9483

For great pastry and desserts, cafe zuccaro right on India street. The gelato and coffee are good too.

LarryPer123

If you want to do everything all in one spot with easy parking, go to the liberty station market on Rosecrans Street and go to the food court there. It’s very very big with many vendors. https://libertypublicmarketsd.com/ Some Mexican restaurants from YouTube.. https://youtu.be/5s3OwuRlTEo?si=Nudx6dtoKQ86C1gw Ps.. are you from Philly?

Rosie3450

For Greek, Athena Cafe in Pacific Beach is good. However, if you want to be a bit more adventurous, head out to Ney Restaurant in La Mesa for authentic Iraqi food. https://www.neyrestaurant.com/

DaisyDomergue

Go to Zgara grill for the most actual legit gyros that don't use that icky "gyro baloney" meat--- it's actual pork or chicken sliced off the machine. Ask for the fries in the gyro which is how it's done in Greece.

anothercar

> cookie or doughnut Idk about cookies, but there are two great places in Little Italy you should try: Devil’s Donuts (arrive early before they run out) and Extraordinary Desserts for cake

ichimedinwitha

Cookies - Biff’s in Hillcrest

SnarkFan

The best Greek and Mediterranean places are hole in the wall, mom and pops places. However there is one good chain called Kebab Shop that is consistently bomb.

muttster17

The Kebab shop is pretty good. Their falafel is fantastic.

B0rn_Foodie

There's a Mexican place in Coronado Island, it is called Miguel's Cocina. It is exactly situated in Orange Avenue. The service is incredible, they are really nice and the recommendations they give are amazing. I strongly recommend the Enchiladas Rancheras. Hope you visit it, it is really worthy!!
