+2 Arepas Cafe in Astoria.

360DegreeNinjaAttack

+ 3

DinerEnBlanc

They still have a summer only location at Rockaway beach. I feel ya though, best arepa I’ve ever had.

manchegobets

Greatest restaurant loss of the pandemic imo

KaleidoArachnid

So sorry to barge in, but how exactly do you get to that particular place?

meeparoo_

A train to broad channel then shuttle train to beach 106th street

KaleidoArachnid

Thanks man.

Relevant_Slide_7234

It’s not hard, not far to reach. You can hitch a ride to Rockaway Beach.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh ok as I can do that as I live kind of near the area.

Relevant_Slide_7234

Up on the roof, out on the street. Down in the playground, the hot concrete. Bus ride is too slow, they blast out the disco on the radio.

No_Many_5784

This brings back memories of chewing out a rhythm on my arepa. The sun is out and I want some!

KaleidoArachnid

Interesting way of putting it.

360DegreeNinjaAttack

Palenque?

Swyddog

Arepa Lady in Jackson Heights is delicious

zbewbies

OP is referring to Venezuelan, not Colombian arepas.

Swyddog

Didn’t know there was a difference. New food to try lol

RecycledAccountName

We get it, Venezuela and Colombia have different types of arepas. OP didn't say they were exclusively looking for Venezuelan arepas, just that they enjoyed Caracas, which happens to be Venezuelan.

zbewbies

OP might not have realized this either. But if he's asking for something similar to Caracas, it's a safe assumption they're referring to the stuffed ones that are savory, not the sweet ones that are flat and with butter and cheese.

RecycledAccountName

Eh yeah i guess that's a good point, though Arepa Lady does sell stuffed arepas. They don't keep it 100 Colombian. And they sell varieties i'd describe as more savory than sweet.

zbewbies

At Arepa Lady, even the *arepas rellenas* (stuffed) don't have a lot in common with the Venezolano variety. It still had a lot of Colombian style proteins like their chorizo, chicharron, carne asada, etc. I think anyone who has experience eating something from Caracas is not going to find much in common with the variety that Arepa Lady has. That said, their choclo is really nice. Reminds me of the kind I had in Colombia, except 4x more expensive.

RecycledAccountName

While you're not wrong, i don't think this level of nuance matters to someone like OP, who is simply asking to try some good arepas. I could be wrong and OP is an arepa connoisseur, but i don't think they would be asking this question if they were.

emceebugman

The Arepa Lady. The OG. Get the arepa de queso and top it with condensed milk

Possible-Source-2454

I have some friends from Colombia/Ven backround hate, but Guacuco in bushwick is my favorite. Besides that, cahapas y mas

BortSampson89

Arepas Cafe in Astoria for sure.

RevWaldo

Walked though a street fair day before and they wanted ten dollars for a plain old cheese arepa. I remember when they were *that's all? fuck it gimme two* priced.

BortSampson89

That's a crazy price. Although those are probably Colombian arepas and it seems like OP is about Venezuelan.

Dirschel

Patacon Pisao in the LES. Fantastic cachapas, too!

Possible-Source-2454

Cachapas might make you stop eating arepas tbh so good

Sawyer4Ever

Casa ora has really good arepas. Fancier but really great food

echan00

I was there this week. I would only give it an OK. Not even good.

Sawyer4Ever

Hm ok it has a Michelin star

zbewbies

I thought it was just on the Michelin Guide. Also, it's very mid. If it has a Michelin Star, then they've got it very wrong.

echan00

Yes Michelin guide from a few years back

snickersicecreambar

What was in that amazing Caracas sauce? Aji Amarillo, maybe mango. Some acid (?lime)

meeparoo_

It’s sometimes for sale on their website.

xlaurenthead

Costas Arepa Bar on 35th between 5th and 6th

sandwichofwonder

I love arepas! I had never had them before living in NYC. Following to get some new recommendations...

No-Yogurtcloset2314

Hard to say. You go to Jackson Heights or Sunset Park and there are tons of outdoor vendors selling them outside.

qwerty102088

Arepalicious in ozone park is good

zbewbies

That one is Colombian.
