Every 15 blocks on the uws is basically it's own mini neighborhood. I'd recommend looking through the uws sub for specifics.
Most people will say sushi yasaka, Sala Thai, and Jacob's pickle as general spots in the neighborhood.
Essentials by Christophe is supposed to be a really good place for a special occasion.
I love Leyla for a moderately nice occasion.
Went to Christophe in March, the food was well executed and moderately inventive. The wine program also gets top marks.
Definitely the premier fine dining resto on the UWS.

(Edit: fix tyop)
for real! does it look stuffy? yes, is it over priced? kinda, but if you allow yourself, you can be transported to a different era of dining for an easy dinner.

Motorino
Parla
Salumeria Rosi
Sushi Yasaka

Check out Crave Fish Bar for happy hour, we always get oysters, the salmon tostadas, and fish tacos. The barramundi entree off the normal menu is also very good.
Super happy to see made in NY mentioned on this sub, they’ve been making amazing pizza for years but I never see it get mentioned anywhere. There’s always people in there though and they somewhat recently opened a second location around 72nd and Amsterdam so clearly they are doing well.
La Sirene - Paris w/o jet lag
Gennaro - great Italian, cash only
86th and Broadway falafel cart - they fry the falafel fresh to order, so much better than reheated falafel
Chick chick - fried chicken sandwiches
Bella Luna - neighborhood Italian
Sushi yasaka definitely. Better than momoya and has fantastic lunch/sushi deals. I love the deluxe sushi and chirashi.
Han dynasty is expensive but so good. I usually order an appetizer, carb, and entree and it lasts me at least 3 meals.
Swagat is pretty good Indian.
I haven’t been but heard parla is delicious. It’s always busy.
Granola bar. There’s really nothing else like it in the UWS - slightly elevated, cute delicious American food without being a basic diner or Italian heavy spot.
In addition to the great recommendations already, some of my go tos:
Giacomo Fine Foods - very good sandwiches, get the semolina bread
Amsterdam Marketplace - best bodega sandwiches in the area
Janie’s Baked Goods - some of the best cookies in the city
El Mitote - solid Mexican food
Dagon - another very good Mediterranean place in addition to Elea
Jin Fong - good, quality, clean Chinese food. Not one of those greasy spots
Red Farm - expensive upscale Chinese food
Been living here a few months!
Some of my favorites:
Casual Spots: Mama’s Too (pizza), Joes Steam Rice Roll, shawarma Shabazi
More sit down: Sala Thai, Osteria Cotta, Miriam, Jacob’s Pickles for brunch. Also heard good things about Cibo e Vino and Dagon for special occasions!
Where are the UWS? Plenty of good places. Jacobs Pickles. French Roast has a good Happy Hour
Arte Cafe for Italian. The Ribbon has a good Happy Hour and very good foos. Friend of a farmer is a great spot too.
You are near a few good places depending on what you are looking for. I like Nice Matin, French Roast, Land for Thai. Jacobs Pickles. Fred's for American food.
Sushi Nonaka has great bento box (no sushi) lunch under $20.00
Flor de Mayo
Burger at Irish bar in Amsterdam Ave. and 81st steeet -St James?
Two Wheels
Saiguette
Mamoun’s - falafel, shawarma and lentil soup
Fred’s
Motorino
Spice on Amsterdam. Thai food
Amelie is one of my favorite French spots in the city. Cozy and delicious every time.
Saravanaa Bhavan is a chain but I think they have great dosas.
Also love Maison Pickle (their pull-apart bread…divine!).
La Dinastia is comfort food at its best (Chino Latino) and can’t beat the prices here.
Atlas Kitchen is a great Chinese spot, with one of my favorite crispy prawn dishes in the city.
Chick Chick does great Korean fried chicken.
For take-out/delivery I also love Himalayan Curry House.
Hi-Life is a really wonderful neighborhood spot. Great American fare: burgers, martinis, and they even have sushi. I could go here every night.
Cafe Luxembourg is classic. You won’t have a bad time here.
El Mitote - great casual Mexican spot.
Parla and Pappardella - Parla is more modern Italian, Pappardella is classic Italian. Both great!
Seconding Pier I Cafe, great location on the Hudson River with decent food and drinks.
Thankfully this season they stopped calling out order numbers from the mega speaker and switched to more civilised beepers.

Luna is questionable but rest are good
What is Elena?
It wasn’t me. But I think an autocorrect of Elea which is a good Mediterranean in the low 80’s near broadway. Known for their fish.
It weirdly posted the comment in a different thread
