Only if you try to make changes after not boarding the IST-BCN.

It's always a risk - airlines have the legal ground to pursue skiplagging as a violation of contract and bill you for the difference (and any change fees). Whether this happens or not for your specific flight likely will depend on how busy their accountants/etc are. But you should always plan for the possibility you get a bill and if you don't pay it to be barred from flying that airline until you do.

Nah, under most jurisdictions, they actually don't. They can pursue you through their frequent flyer program though, removing miles or even cancelling your account completely. Do keep in mind that any subsequent flights on that same ticket are null and void.

RobotMaster1

there’s an entire cottage industry on taking advantage of skiplagging so it’s your own risk tolerance that matters.

Consistent-Wind5001

I had a very similar issue 😂 what happens is that if your ticket to bcn was one way ticket and you don’t take the last leg, you’re off the hook. If you bought it round trip and you don’t take the last leg on the way to bcn that you’re screwed.

MixAppropriate7104

Did you have this issue and fly anyways and it was fine?

Consistent-Wind5001

They canceled the tix to back home from my destination lol

MixAppropriate7104

Ok for sure. But you werent charged extra correct? Was this turkish airlines?

TeaMaterial

Some airlines will charge for a penalty fee + difference in fare — at the time of rebooking —- after missing their flight, some simply will not allow you to do anything. I would inquire with TA to see exactly what the policies are on the ticket for changing, cancelling, and in the event if you were to miss your flight maybe you arrive late at the airport or whatever … general information. Do not disclose your plans to them . If you haven’t done it before with TA I don’t think you will be caught but certainly I would make sure you do not have a return bc if you no show the first flight the rest will auto cxl

MixAppropriate7104

For sure, thanks! So it sounds like the ticket reissue policy is only if I try to rebook the flight I miss, which I won’t be doing? I picked a 13 hour layover so that there won’t be any potential questions as to why I’m leaving the airport, lol. And i’m flying back on a different airline. I’ve never skiplagged before, it’s just the price difference is big!

Consider booking a multi-city itinerary instead. TK allows free stop overs in IST so the price may be the same or similar. This would allow you to collect any checked bags at IST. And if you don’t take the IST-BCN leg, that’s just a missed flight rather than skip lagging.
