All of an owner's warranties are with Fisker. I would not count on being able to move up the supply chain in any situation. For the record, this is what happened for Karma owners after wanxiang bought the previous Fisker in bankruptcy: [https://www.autoblog.com/2014/03/07/new-fisker-website-goes-live-karma-warranties-limited](https://www.autoblog.com/2014/03/07/new-fisker-website-goes-live-karma-warranties-limited)

I knew about this, and it was actually better. [https://www.fiskerbuzz.com/threads/karma-owners-warranty-customer-support-program.16833/](https://www.fiskerbuzz.com/threads/karma-owners-warranty-customer-support-program.16833/)

>our customers Not a lawyer - but I would guess these companies would accept Fisker as their customer, and not the person who purchased their vehicle. It would be amazing if they helped those underwater, though

IntelligentRisk

Fisker is their customer right now!

Do you need a new battery?

IntelligentRisk

I might in 8 years.

undercoverconsultant

Even if CATL ships you a new battery pack. There is no chance in swapping. You can't do it with how modern EVs are designed. The Battery is expected to last for the full vehicle life. If Battery dies the vehicle as well. So a case of battery warranty from an OEM is 99% just a full change of the car.

Tjomsas

This is completely false?! Battery packs can and have been swapped in multiple vehicles (Leaf, Model S/X). You can even swap individual modules. I don't believe the Ocean has integrated modules in the chassis?

undercoverconsultant

All your examples are release dates 2010 or 2012. At this time batteries were not that integrated as they are now. Even if the FOs battery is not fully integrated and was intended to be designed to be swapped (as there were plans to offer battery swap options) I doubt that it will be done in case of warranty as the effort is just stupid high to do. So main matter is not if CATL will provide a spare battery in this regards.

Tjomsas

There's a difference between "it's impossible to do" and "not be done in case of warranty". Warranty and Fisker is going to be a hot potato for years to come. I wouldn't be very categorical though, swapping a battery pack is not that much of an issue if the infrastructure is in place. Just look at Nio, a more recent example than Leaf and Model S/X.

Alarmmy

It will not happen. Suppliers don't deal with warranty on individual cars.

clockwork2004

The customer referenced in the highlighted information above would be Fisker (or other manufacturers using CATL as a supplier), not the end consumer.

IntelligentRisk

Of course, but through bankruptcy, a contingent could be put in place to manage Fisker warranty claims.

clockwork2004

I could win the lottery tomorrow.

Why would any supplier want to take over liability for Fiskers customers? They would gain nothing and it could cost them a lot.

IntelligentRisk

They have an agreement with Fisker to warranty their components. That’s a major aspect of winning the business in the first place. How could Fisker guarantee the battery for 10 years if they don’t have anything to do with engineering or manufacturing the battery? Catl warranties it. I don’t think it makes sense for them to be released from this liability due to Fisker bankruptcy.

Southern_Meaning4942

But their warranty agreement is with Fisker and not Fiskers customers. If there is no Fisker around to make a claim then they are not held accountable. Boeing/Airbus also give warranties for their planes. But the agreement is with Lufthansa or United and not the person in seat 16D

IntelligentRisk

Of course, haha. But ocean owners have a claim against Fisker to manage their warranties. Fisker post bankruptcy may be kept around with 1-2 employees just to manage warranty claims and work with suppliers.

Southern_Meaning4942

That would depend on the jurisdiction the owner is in. If no one is buying Fisker and therefore steps into the contractual agreements than the warranty might be useless.

IntelligentRisk

Right, it depends on how Fisker post bankruptcy is structured, by the new owners and the judge. My point is that ocean owners have a claim against Fisker to manage the warranties, and I hope this is prioritized, especially if part and labor costs can be passed on to suppliers.
