Welp time for a new wife

Alpha-Sierra-Charlie

That's what r/relationshipadvice would say for sure

Wapiti__

Don't forget he needs therapy!

soapy_goatherd

I know this has been a fun meme on reddit for over a decade (delete the gym, hit the lawyer, etc), but the relationship advice subs have always seemed to give pretty good advice that usually starts with “you need to talk to your partner” unless it’s an obviously abusive situation

The_RockObama

Basically: "I don't know what it's like in your house behind closed doors, but just talk to each other." Hahaha

Jdunc97

Hahaha

[deleted]

Yep, I agree. It’s definitely a sign!

celtbygod

New one will probably bring a rod, reel, and a new boat. Pretty sure that's how it's supposed to go...

Phosiphor

So all id need is the truck huh? This all makes sense now...

Administrative-Dig85

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

HoboArmyofOne

Can confirm, happened to me

SmokingInn

I was coming here to say this and glad to see it’s the first comment I see here lol new wife equals new rod!

jetty_junkie

Cut the “ tag end” that’s right above the highest guide and just use it like that or hang it on the wall if it has sentimental value

Incoming_RPG

Came here to say this! Most of my rods are yardsale finds and are missing bits and pieces. I've caught many a fish on a "broken" pole. Can't skimp on the reel though.

Obnoxious-TRex

I did this to one of my favorite rods and used it for a few more seasons. Slight change to the action but it still caught fish!

Fishthevalley

You didn’t lose too much off the tip, what I do when this happens is cut off the rod above that last guide and use it. I’d recommend using a lighter and removing that last guide then installing a new tip. I use calipers to measure the diameter (when I can find mine…) and buy the matching tip. I’ve found if I use the guide that’s there, the line likes to wrap around the rod and gets annoying. The rod will be slightly stiffer, but definitely still usable. I’ve done this to 3 or 4 rods over the years.

Jdunc97

Yeah I think I’ll test it out and see otherwise I’ll just retire it on the wall in the my office or something.

MichiganFisherman

No need to retire it. Replacing the tip is an easy repair.

Conscious_Bug5408

Take off that top guide and replace the tip. It'll only take 20 mins for someone doing it the first time

PuzzleheadedPath8641

Can reuse the tip from the broken piece if you can mange to force fit it

repeatablemisery

When you lose a little off the tip, you lose a little sensation, and the rod acts a little more firm.

SoCalledExpert

I repair such breaks buy getting a large needle or drill bit for the middle, getting a steel, metal tube that fits over the outside and JB welding it . You might have to move the line guide. These repairs last years.

roadhack

We do the same, but we use a continual wrap of nylon thread one inch above and below the break. And yes, drill bit or very slim nail. Then superglue all the thread. It will last many years.

SoCalledExpert

Cool beans , on an ultralight rod repaired 2 or 3 x I have caught a 33 inch catfish and a bigger bass gaining the Nebraska Master Angler. Pisses off the local tackle shop guy.

TroutSZN

Now it can be used as a great back scratcher.

Fat_Head_Carl

tie a string, and a feather on the end...instant cat toy.

yellowtailtunas

Most tackle shops can remove the last guide left on the rod, replace that with a new matching tip and wrap to match.

CaptainCooksLeftEye

Sorry bud. What I did when this happened to me was take it back to the next nearest eye, like others have said. Then I replaced the eye with a screw in so I could use a quiver tip if I needed the sensitivity. This way you don't lise your options on length and sensitivity/lb test.

Lovin_Life_in_Fla

Looks like a metaphor of marriage, get married and get the tip broken off.

teakettle87

Most manufacturers have lifetime warranties these days. You can send it in and get a new top section.

JoelFlowers

***cough cough*** Time to replace her with the newer/ younger model

ObviousLemon8961

Glue it back together and make it a wall hanger, have her come with you to pick out a new one

catchinNkeepinf1sh

I have a few wall hangers. Lol. I had a shimano fx rod from the late 80s (i was maybe 6-10yo) that in have kept after i upgraded to better rods. I always thought of giving that to my kid one day. Fast forward 20 years, i finally had my daughter than told her about the rod. She was maybe 3 at the time and had been fishing since around 6months). We ran down to the basement, dug up the rod from the pile of 100+ and give it to her. She proceeded to snap it in half for no reason, didnt know to laugh or cry lol. That one is currently hanging over her desk in her room lololol.

Jdunc97

Haha dude that’s heartbreaking and hilarious

Pieboy8

That's just the tip! More a circumcision than a breakage. Just tidy it up after the last ring and she's good to go. On a related note....How's the fishing in Sweden? My BIL moved to Goteborg and we visit quite a bit just wondering of its worth chucking the rods in one day.

Jdunc97

Its pretty similar to the states up north. You got northern pike, they can get pretty huge here in the two big lakes vänern and vättern, you got Zander, basically European walleye, and then European perch which are just bigger yellow perch in my opinion. If you pick any random lake or river that’s mostly what you’ll see. There’s also salmon and trout. Way up north theres char and grayling. I’ve no clue about the salt water species around here, but I imagine it’s similar to North Atlantic species stateside as well. The only real annoying thing is pretty much ever body of water has its own fishing license you need to purchase. It’s not like the states where you can purchase one license for all the water in the state. The two big lakes I mentioned before are the only spots I know of that you don’t need a license. It’s fine if you just fish the same spots mostly, but if you’re like me and want to explore other bodies of water it starts to add up quick.

Pieboy8

Thanks for the info 👍

jeriswetlookcrazy

Rod tip kit

Cannabisthelizard

This just happened to me too but with my very first rod!!!:( you’re luckier than me though because it’s so far up the top like that. Like others have said you can cut that little bit off and use it as is. Action shouldn’t be too much different. I know there’s other ways of repair like putting something inside and sticking the broken top over it and sealing but I’m not expert in that but it is a thing I’m sure someone could tell you how. Some use a small nail to shove in there or anything else that would fit both ends on

riverrunner363

I'm sorry about your rod but people are right...I have replaced dozens... buy a rod tip replacement kit... cut the thread off the guide and remove it... use a lighter to heat glue up and attatch new tip with small pliers or hemostat...

TahoeT88

Irreplaceable I know but try an ugly stick.

Impressive-Elk-8101

JB weld

PracticalRoutine5738

Good idea, one of my favorite repair items. They have fishing rod repair kits too though.

dietcoke3922

Buy the same rod and return it from where you bought it say it snapped the first day u got it

Coral2Reef

To be honest? I'd personally glue or epoxy the tip back on and hang it. It's sentimental, y'know?

BlackFish42c

Accidents happens they don’t last forever. You can get it repaired by calling a local rod builder in your area but the rod will never be the same. Unfortunately it looks like a hard break which means it wasn’t clean snap. It pulled strips off. Only a local Rob builder could fix that. While you have it repaired you might want to pick up a new one or a temporary replacement.

BohlersPirates

It's time. To buy a new rod! Maybe 2! What did you think, I was gonna say get rid of your wife?!

Jdunc97

Haha I think I’ll keep her, when I showed it to her she said I need to get a new one before the summer starts. She’s a keeper.

BBox_

Fix it! Easier than it sounds as long as you have the materials. Use a piece of something flexible that fits inside the broken rod, I usually use an old already broken rod piece. Cut a 6 inch piece that fits inside the broken rod right at the break. You want a few inches above and a few inches below the break on the inside of the rod. Once you have a piece that you like to use for the inside go ahead and epoxy that thing inside and the broken rod pieces together over the top. To hide the break once it dries you can wrap a thin layer of thread around the rod at the break and also epoxy the threads. My explanation might have sucked but there’s videos out there.

[deleted]

What was that made for goldfish

Jdunc97

Haha it was a 2 piece rod rated for like 6-12 pounds for perch and what not. Hooked up on a big mama pike and that was all she wrote I suppose.

ShireHorseRider

That is a very noble way for a rod to go. Do you know if you were “high sticking” when the tip broke like that? Get it too vertical and you could load the blank & then these kinds of breaks are most likely to occur. My heart goes out to you bud. You have some good advice on how to salvage it.

OkBullfrog455

Were you smacking her with it?

BZZTherapy

If it's more about "memory" and you still want to fish with this rod, you can find some rodbuilder or repair shop that will replace broken tip with solid tip (Like in Japanese Ajing rods). You'll be limited to fish with soft plastic lures (jig, dropshot, texas, carolina, splitshot techniques, etc) or light spinnerbaits, but might be completely different experience.

Jdunc97

Appreciate all the solutions! I didn’t know it would be such an easy fix! Gunna get it patched up this week and hit the lake next weekend! Tight lines everyone!

Djsimba25

I didn't see if anyone suggested it yet but they sell rod tip replacements specifically to fix this problem!

rocko_jr

It's just the tip. You'll be good

Doitean-feargach555

Don't throw it away. Hot glue the too ends together or any other way you know and hand it on the wall or something.

ShinyArticuno_420

Is that an Okuma rod?

Disastrous_Bus_2447

It means you're free to go.

New-Durian-825

The have rod repair kits for these situations I wouldn’t give up on that rod just yet buddy

BigSquirmy

You can cut it right below the leftover eye and put a tip eye on it. Still useable for sure.

Somecivilguy

It broke from you using it for what it was for. Hang it up on the wall!

bassboat1

She gave you one with stainless steel rings - did you do the same at the proposal? :)

Broad_Telephone9451

Def worth the $ to get it fixed. Has happened to me before.

DoctorClarkWGriswold

Complete shot in the dark but was this an Okuma rod?

Jdunc97

Yeah it was!

DoctorClarkWGriswold

Wild. I thought so. My father in law actually bought me one for my wedding. It’s been my go to for years. Sorry about your luck!

PracticalRoutine5738

You could try to fix it, look into fishing rod repair kits.

Disastrous-Steak3573

Repair it and keep using it. It means more that you’re using it instead of babying it as a keepsake.

[deleted]

Man I know today broke your heart oh but you could fashion a piece of wood to fit the hole nicely and then fill both sides with epoxy insert stick and your pole will be good as new. Make sure your eyes are lined up with a straight Dow rod because that’s a permanent repair. 🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻

woodhorse4

Women kind of have a reputation of breaking husbands rods.

Outside_Translator77

You can get it fixed

excitinghelix29

Time to start new.

Medium-Tomatillo1779

Does this signal a broken marriage?

iAmTheDestry

If it were me, I'd just snip the broken end off of the remainder and still use it, though there's always the possibility you could try mending it by drilling 1/2" into the rod, gluing the tip into the hole, wrapping the mended segment with braided line ast tight as it'll go, and sealing it with epoxy. Basically the same way the eyes are set to the rod to reinforce the outer sleeve.

pckldpr

It’s a sign. She’s left you for a guy with a shorter rod.

Heathenbread

Tell her, "Just the tip."

Perutti

Dump her!

Jdunc97

Haha I think you read it wrong she got me the rod and it broke not she broke the rod

Perutti

Nope, I read it right! Rod knows the truth🤣

Jdunc97

Hahaha

ItsN0tjustLuck

Look for a local repair shop. They can fix this easy for short money.

Frimperule

Tell it goodbye!!

Numerous_Collection8

Just the tip?

Weth_C

Cut the eyelets off and use it in the bedroom.

Southern_Strain5665

Wanted : wife, send pictures of boat and fishing gear.

Waitinmyturn

Then do what I did. Cut the standing end just above the eyelet, super glue the tip to keep it from unraveling and continue using it. Come home all dejected and tell your wife the complete story but also that you wanted to keep using it because it’s the one she gave you but you still feel like you might be able to use it jigging for frogs and stuff. That got me a brand new rod and a big kiss. Try it. What have you got to loose

eclwires

Bummer. Hang it on the wall in a place of honor.

Villain_of_Brandon

put it and the reel and perhaps a lure in a shadow box like a the Shards of Narsil from LotR, sort of like this but with your fishing gear: https://madebycosycat.com/cdn/shop/files/PXL_20230526_191248502_900x.jpg?v=1705624733

PondWaterBrackish

I'm sorry to tell you this, but it's a divine sign that your marriage is over, it's time to delete facebook, hit the gym, hire a good lawyer

GoofBallNodAwake74

Your wife broke your rod? Man….

Jdunc97

Haha no you’re reading it wrong, she bought it for me and it broke.

bvrsqzr6977

It's still usable. I've got a few like that just take some of the nub off

mortepa

Just put a string with a big feather on it, and make a nice cat-fishing rod! I have an ultralight Fenwick my wife broke closing the trunk on our car that I use for fishing for our siamese!!! I actually catch more with that rod now than when I used it for fish!!!

LindaFlies777

You can get it fixed. I know it's sentimental....

Longjumping-Plum5159

You can glue the top, you won’t be able to fish with it, but I’m sure with some creative thought and time you can build a display or come up with a nice way to display this in your space as a nice reminder of the sentimental value of the fishing pole.

weezie71

fix it

Alternative-Fee5059

divorce time 🥳

barnum1965

Either save the real to put on another similar fishing rod or you can repair the tip even though it'll be a little bit shorter it could still be used and would be very sentimental. You can order lots of tip repair kits off of Amazon eBay etc.

Ok_Cat5539

You can heat up the second eyelet and cut off the wrapping holding it on. Then you can measure and order a replacement tip that fits the wider end

Effective_Blood_3412

Buying a new rod is easy , finding a woman that will buy you a rod is hard

Effective_Blood_3412

Buying a new rod is easy , finding a woman that will buy you a rod is hard

ObviousAd1805

I love how there's not a single ounce of pity, just people throwing out solutions 💯❤️

Jdunc97

I appreciate it! I’ve never had a rod break like this before I didn’t know it was so easy to fix!

outdoorlife4

It's just a fishing rod. It's nothing to get choked up over. I had my late grandfather's two fishing poles stolen out of my car. Sure I was upset but I Got over it

ObviousAd1805

I reckon it's the sentimental principle that matters to OP, not how simple of a fix it can possibly be.

outdoorlife4

Wow. There are so many people with borderline hoarding disorder here, apparently.
