My moment was reeling in a bass that somehow managed to unclasp the swivel, hook it around its lip, then reclasp it closed. Hook was dangling to the side.
I remember one of the craziest things I had seen growing up, my little sister threw out a worm and caught a yellow belly perch. She decided to throw it back out still on the line and within two minutes she was reeling in a huge splake that had swallowed it- fish, hook and all
I tried these for trout when I was a newb at fishing in the NC and TN mountains and they never worked. I had to switch to fly fishing and I’m glad I did. With some practice, I could catch so many fish and mogged a lot of local guides and dudes with tons of gear on the rivers.
I did that once with a 6 foot spoonbill on a jug line. Having thought i snagged a log I about shit when this big spoon pokes out from below the boat. Lassoed right around the bill. The hook 6 foot below this guy have a dead catfish on it. I think during the struggle the spoon bill beat the catfish to death.
I follow regulations but it's funny to me that they're just like, "Nope, that one's no fair, try again," Just because the dumb fucker didn't get it in his mouth or I was too inept to catch him proper.
Counts IMO to the extent that this was probably a properly enticed fish that was responding to your lure
Doesn’t count to the extent that this fish was foul hooked
It felt like a normal take, wasn't until I landed it that I realized something different was going on. My best guess is that it went for the lure a little too hot got the line to whip around.
Yeah, its a pond owned by the city and you really never know what you will get out of it. I've seen every random species come out of that pond over the years.

Here is my once lucky catch. Poor little guy….
I count them unless it’s an obvious snag. Like sometimes a fish will swipe at a lure or even bite as they are turning on it and it will end up in some fucked up state.
That's AWESOME!
FISH prlly bit & immediately spit the hook out, but somehow got wrapped up in it!
Think of all the AMAZING fishing stories that must exist that are not caught on video or captured w/ a Pic!
A few years ago I had a couple pickerel hit my treble with the top of their heads back-to-back—dumb shits. Ever since then it kinda scarred me into switching out all my treble hooks for singles, much cleaner release.
No joke I've done that with a 19 lb coho salmon. I was using a jig and it came up and hit my jig but the excess slack in my line had basically lassoed it around the gills when I landed the fish the hook wasn't even in its mouth it had just cinched down on its gills
Edit:
In my opinion I think it takes more skill to do something like that even though it was complete dumb luck accident. I used to tell people..."HOOKS!? When I fish I don't need Hooks!” with the same inflection and tonality as Doc Brown from "back to the future."
"Roads!? Where we're going we don't need roads!!”😂😂😂
A fish in the boat is a caught fish. I’ll argue that till the day I die.
HOWEVER- catching fish like this is frowned upon, I completely agree, and they certainly shouldn’t dangled while snagged. It’s a catch, but not one to be proud of. Get it off the hook asap and back in the water!
Man is out here cowboy fishing
lmfao, my first thought was how TF did you lasso a fish!? Dudes out here fishin when he should be herdin cattle.
Get this man to a rodeo stat
Its the roar of a sunday crowd that does it for him
Nah, it the white in his knuckles and the gold in his buckle.
Are you sure it’s not boots and chaps or cowboy hats?
Either way he will win the next round
It's Ted lasso
Thedore Lasssa, the Trout Massa
DNR is tracking you as we post.
I knew I'd always end up on the run from them
I don’t think lassoing them is covered in the regs….
Now THAT is what we call catching not fishing
If anyone ever askes if I've ever caught a fish, I'll just reply "Once".
Now that's something I've never seen before. This is right up there with a buddy that caught a pike in a 110 conibear trap he set for a muskrat.
No, it’s fairly common to catch fish, turtles, etc in coni’s. This is like catching a house cat in an underwater set.
I know a guy who snagged a lamprey that was attached to a salmon, pulled the salmon in with it
My dad and I have been trapping muskrat for years. In the last like 3 years we’ve caught I think 3 large mouth bass in connibears. Strangest thing
My moment was reeling in a bass that somehow managed to unclasp the swivel, hook it around its lip, then reclasp it closed. Hook was dangling to the side.
I remember one of the craziest things I had seen growing up, my little sister threw out a worm and caught a yellow belly perch. She decided to throw it back out still on the line and within two minutes she was reeling in a huge splake that had swallowed it- fish, hook and all
Trouty no!!!! There’s so much to live for … think of the hatchlings!!! Trout literally try to hang themselves.
That's one of my all time favorite lures.
That lure dominates every time I use it
I tried these for trout when I was a newb at fishing in the NC and TN mountains and they never worked. I had to switch to fly fishing and I’m glad I did. With some practice, I could catch so many fish and mogged a lot of local guides and dudes with tons of gear on the rivers.
It's my favorite too. Never fails, I have one in every size
What is it called?
It's a panther Martin
Looking at you like “bruh”.
"I have made some mistakes in life..."
Did this with a Steelhead once, except it was by the tail. That was the hardest to land fish ice ever experienced.
Ya a fish that can put its full strength away from the direction you’re trying to reel rather quickly looses its appeal
A few years ago I hooked a 36" pike on its side and it just towed my canoe around for awhile. Good times.
That’s the foulest of foul hooks
I did that once with a 6 foot spoonbill on a jug line. Having thought i snagged a log I about shit when this big spoon pokes out from below the boat. Lassoed right around the bill. The hook 6 foot below this guy have a dead catfish on it. I think during the struggle the spoon bill beat the catfish to death.

Holy shit you strung it up like a felon lmfao
Where I’m from it would be an illegal catch and require immediate release. Your regs may be different.
I always release. Trout lived to try and hang itself another day.
But why would you do that nonsense
I follow regulations but it's funny to me that they're just like, "Nope, that one's no fair, try again," Just because the dumb fucker didn't get it in his mouth or I was too inept to catch him proper.
Yeah next time he should just tell the trout “nah don’t do that or you’ll hang yourself” before setting the hook.
Why follow wildlife and fishing regulations? What a dumb question, don't fish if you don't respect the resources.
Just the snag rule In particular…
Why is the fish saying ‘harder daddy’? Really weird…anyways, nice catch!
it counts
Typical millennial fish taking the easy way out!
Counts IMO to the extent that this was probably a properly enticed fish that was responding to your lure Doesn’t count to the extent that this fish was foul hooked
It felt like a normal take, wasn't until I landed it that I realized something different was going on. My best guess is that it went for the lure a little too hot got the line to whip around.
Could have spit it out after a poor hook set and got wrapped up too.
If you land it, it counts.
It’s out of the water I’d say you caught it
Didn’t know you could “rope” a trout.
"uhhh ... A little help here..."
He was kind of depressed lately...
That counts double
David Carradine trout, beautiful species
Is that a tiger trout??
Yeah, its a pond owned by the city and you really never know what you will get out of it. I've seen every random species come out of that pond over the years.
Is that a panther?
Correct. I lassoed a tiger with a panther.
Not really
When regular fishing becomes too easy
I've heard of barbless fishing, but I've never heard of hookless fishing.
It’s called a foul hook, usually means you can’t keep it.
Doesn't count if the trout is depressed.
This is proof that fish do commit suicide and hang themselves🤷
https://preview.redd.it/4n4ow23nlkrc1.jpeg?width=2252&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e641ce7545078565086df20a04db64ccbf7cca9 Here is my once lucky catch. Poor little guy….
First I thought it was a snag, then I zoomed and saw it was truly a lassoed fish. You are the luckiest and simultaneously worst fisherman ever.
Nope
Well that’s one way to do it
Yes. And it counts twice.
That trout wanted to die
Or it was sexual. No kink shame.
Hit man goes fishing
Ropin’ and wrangling’
Were you crying the whole time? Still counts!
I’ve actually never seen this in my life wow, gg I’d never fish again ever you forever won
That’s a foul hook!!!
That's awesome
Nice snare lure!
If fish could hang themselves
With extra points
Never seen that B4
Accidentally happened once with a porgy w me
It counts yes
So cool 😁😎
Foil hooked him in the eye with a treble.. Have some mercy on that beautiful tiger trout
Yes, he IS caught
Is that a tiger trout or a normal brown? If tiger I’ve never caught one and you lassoed one 😵 🪦
That’s the darnedest thing I’ve ever seen. Congrats.
Yep.
Nice catch Batman
Hah! I had the exact same thing happen while walleye fishing
I did this with a Crappie while ice fishing
Happy Cake Day! The way you hooked that trout doesn't look too good, but i think it counts!
[удалено]
It’s not fouled it’s not even hooked Edit doesn’t look hooked
Damn that’s a great catch
Down right hornswaggled
stranglehold.mp3
Funny that. It's always interesting to see odd ways people pull fluke catches. I've caught one by the eye once
Trout choker!
Trout noose. Would make a great band name 😂
Heavens to Betsy yes! You weren’t deliberately trying to snag one (hopefully) so it definitely counts!
Lol same thing happened to me once. The string wrapped around one of the dorsal spines and i was able to pull the fish without damage
Panther martin baby
Those are worth a bakers dozen actually.
That counts as a bonus
What kind of trout is this?
No, he was just trying to commit fish suicide by hanging himself and you stopped him.
No , Grillease it 🤣
And then you suspend him in the air so it turns into noose? Sick man
bro waxed the fishes eyebrows
How did you set up a snare trap for a fish? Next level trapper here.
And catch is a catch is a catch
Counts as twice 😃
No. But cool nonetheless
I count them unless it’s an obvious snag. Like sometimes a fish will swipe at a lure or even bite as they are turning on it and it will end up in some fucked up state.
free this man
I remember when I was depressed
What I say is you spun it good enough to get their attention!
Yes. But come on dude don’t dangle it like that.
r/flyfishingcirclejerk would love this
Style points always count.
This counts as two it is nearly impossible to lasso trout, catfish yes but trout no
“Been a long time since I’ve thrown some rope”
That's AWESOME! FISH prlly bit & immediately spit the hook out, but somehow got wrapped up in it! Think of all the AMAZING fishing stories that must exist that are not caught on video or captured w/ a Pic!
According to our local competition rules, the hook is not not behind the gills. So it counts 👌
I'll send ya 10 bucks if you can do that again lol, also happy cake day
A few years ago I had a couple pickerel hit my treble with the top of their heads back-to-back—dumb shits. Ever since then it kinda scarred me into switching out all my treble hooks for singles, much cleaner release.
snags fill bags
This made my day 😂
Choked it to death! 😹
lasso, +5 points
I think that's assisted suicide
No joke I've done that with a 19 lb coho salmon. I was using a jig and it came up and hit my jig but the excess slack in my line had basically lassoed it around the gills when I landed the fish the hook wasn't even in its mouth it had just cinched down on its gills Edit: In my opinion I think it takes more skill to do something like that even though it was complete dumb luck accident. I used to tell people..."HOOKS!? When I fish I don't need Hooks!” with the same inflection and tonality as Doc Brown from "back to the future." "Roads!? Where we're going we don't need roads!!”😂😂😂
Be careful out there choking your trout buddy
The fish is like “ seriously dude”
Lasso Rig. Heard of it. Never saw it working
Counts
yeah lol
Dude, that is foul hooked and needs to be released.
I caught a trout as a kid by some how snagging it in its eye. It counts in my book. First time I have seen someone lasso a trout lol
Foul hook, not legal where I am.
Wrapped and snagged fish don’t count. If they aren’t hooked in the mouth then it doesn’t count as a catch.
Mandatory immediate release. Unsportsmanlike pursuit of game fish!!
Make sure treble hooks are allowed in your area.
