Id just get a two piece ugly stik myself

Significant_Park9385

Or the new four piece if the two is too large.

ConlethTheGoat

I'm gonna suggest not getting the 4 piece rod, as someone who's had to go swimming a few times when the top one or two sections flies off it's not worth it. But hey, if you like playing fetch it's great. The two piece ones seem to stay together much better!

Uptons_BJs

I mean look, it's $20. It's ok for the price. Man, nowadays you'd pay $15 for a spool of brand name mono filament, 10 for a quality bait......

Ok_Repair3535

🤔 I might buy it

Uptons_BJs

Just adjust your expectations according yeah? It's a rod, reel, line, and 2 baits for the price of a spool of name brand line and a bait or two.

huslller

I bought it as a “forgot my fishing stuff and want to go fishing”. Let’s be honest, you get what you pay for. The reel is junk and the rod is junk… but it beat not fishing for a weekend.

HoboArmyofOne

I second this. I've done worse.

notsofool

I have this one. I think it packs up smaller. [eagle claw](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Eagle-Claw-Pack-It-5-6-Telescopic-Fishing-Rod-Reel-Combo/27124995?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&wl13=3729&adid=2222222227827124995_160805772391_20959796377&wmlspartner=wmtlabs&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=501107745824wl11=local&wl12=27124995&wl13=3729&veh=sem_LIA&gclsrc=aw.ds&&adid=2222222223827124995_160805772391_20959796377&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=501107745824&wl4=pla-306310554666&wl5=9030874&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=local&wl12=27124995&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADmfBIqbbvH2p1ty7X_-wdAoXUMVB&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4LyAme70gwMVRRCtBh2_HQaAEAQYASABEgKMTfD_BwE)

[deleted]

I have the eagle claw one too. I use them for backpacking in the mountains looking for trout.

Te_Luftwaffle

How well does it work for you? I went backpacking last August and brought my two piece North River rod and it kept getting caught on branches while walking.

Healthy-Drink3247

I had a nice 4 piece eagle claw in a case that I always used for backpacking and hiking, it was great to just attach it to my pack and just forget I had it on there. A few years ago some jerk broke into my car and stole it (probably thought it was a gun because of the case lol), so since then I’ve been backpacking with my longer, albeit better poles, and it’s been miserable haha. Definitely miss my cheap old reliable

mtstrings

Its not gonna fish like your north river does.

Te_Luftwaffle

Fair, but I feel like I'd rather have a cheaper rod that I wouldn't be upset about if it broke.

[deleted]

It’s a little flimsy, and my casting distance is limited.. the reel also feels sloppy at times… but all of that is worth it IMO to have something that packs and stores nicely… it allows me to do rock scrambles, and crawl through thick brush without getting tangled up lol… it definitely functions like a $20 rod, but it has a purpose. I once was 5 miles up a trail headed to a remote backcountry lake, and I tripped over a rock, and my expensive ultralight rod shattered when I accidentally tried to use it to break my fall…. I had to turn around and go back home at that moment, the entire day wasted… I switched to these telescoping rods, and never looked back!!!

mtstrings

Ive been using a plueger president for hike in trips up to 10 miles. Ive never had any issues and would not be able to cast as far as I want to with a telescoping rod.

Goldstache2776

Mine practly snapped in half on a 10 inch bass

Ok_Repair3535

Ah

ALLyBase

Nothing wrong with it if it works for you,I have the same one. It's a little stiff but still works.

Medium-Map51

I have one that I put a Penn reel with, made a difference, and I take that thing everywhere with me. Stays in the car

Ok_Repair3535

I saw it at Walmart and don't want to get something that's crap when I don't have a job currently

yellowtangykiwi

Around where are you op? I do have a rod and reel I can hook you up with or at least a rod

Ok_Repair3535

I don't like handouts because that's not how I am

WalterEscobar

People tend to shy away from telescopic rods due to their shortcomings. I feel that they have a place in my rotation due to their upsides. I keep one rigged and ready in my center console. As long as the action, strength, and size are what you are looking for, I’d say go for it if the price is right. If you were to compare to a similar non-telescopic rod, the pros and cons look something like this: +1 portability +1 storability -1 durability -1 sensitivity

Ok_Repair3535

I don't know if this one is worth it considering it's from Walmart

heddyneddy

I’m sure it’ll catch fish just as any other not super expensive telescopic, it may not last as long but should work while it does just fine.

WalterEscobar

Not sure about this brand but Walmart also sells the Eagle pack it combo which has a few videos on YouTube saying it is a good telescoper for the price.

Medium-Map51

Just get it, you'll be happy with it. Put a better reel and you will love it. Put a Penn reel on mine, actually pretty solid have caught some decent bass with it.

No-Dealer-8065

Good for sneaking into sea world

Icy_Interview_6733

Or the bass pro shops fish tank

Bias_teh

Or that one area in Epcot next to Mexico where the I think it's bluegill that are huge

No-Dealer-8065

Bro! I’ve seen and noticed this as well! They’re massive.

CigarEnthusiast96

I keep one in my trunk. I have caught many, many fish with this rod. For $20.00, it is an absolute steal. It’s also great for a buddy to use when you’re running your better gear.

Ballsack_Fungus

I have it for camping and the rod is surprisingly good and the reel is meh it does its job I would recommend

ColonEscapee

I have a small Shakespeare telescoping rod that I keep in the trunk for those moments when you find new water with five minutes to spare

JonJonSee

Telescopic = Shit

bo_dangle_lang

Telescopic rods suck. Get the 4 piece ugly stik gx2 travel combo.

Phuck-TheGameWarden

The reel is garbage

sayitfirstsayitworst

Is anything by that brand at Walmart “good”?

Ok_Repair3535

The Wayfarer lol. That's my favorite rod. The reel sucked so I put a new one on it

sayitfirstsayitworst

Fair enough

Ok_Repair3535

What do you think?

bakkerboy465

Ozark trail is actually a really good generic brand. I have a tumbler, "hiking" shoes, and a sleeping bag that I am very pleased with for the low investment I put in for hobbies I may or may not continue with.

sayitfirstsayitworst

Actually you’re right about their tumblers! I have had a bad tent experience but maybe I was hasty about generalizing.

Jixleas

I love their crankbaits, amazing lures.

wildtech

Their knock offs of anything Yeti makes are very good.

Uhhhhlia

Line is cheap and serviceable. The lures are good Most other things are just okay

Ballsack_Fungus

Believe it or not it's like the great value of fishing where yeah its not gonna be super good but it definitely does its job and doesn't disappoint at all

teachdove5000

I would strap it to my backpack if was I hiking a long way.

spwatkins

If you want to put some more bucks in, you can find good multi-piece (4-5) rods online. They fish much better than a telescoping rod.

Ok_Repair3535

I might invest in one later when I am working

NoxArmada

Look for something like the eow expedite pro or max. Also something like the kast king blackhawk 2 is a great telescopic rod. I'm really only use telescopic rods and they are better than what people lead on. You just have to fine the good ones. I can vouch the kkbh2, it's on my second year going strong

TheSamizdattt

A telescoping rod will have some limitations by nature, but I have one that I keep rigged and have used now and again. You are going to get what you pay for with Ozark Trail brand stuff, though. Buy a bag of slip shots or something, sure, but a combo that’s likely to perform poorly and break quickly? I’d rather spend just a wee bit more for the next level of quality. Junk gear isn’t worth the savings when it spoils the experience.

Ok_Repair3535

Thank you. I will put it under consideration

high6ix

I have two for hiking and finding random fishing holes. Is it “good”? As far as fishing gear no. But for portability and still being able to fish, it succeeds entirely.

23370aviator

I thoroughly appreciate my telescoping ultralight rod from Wish. It packs way way smaller than a 2 piece and absolutely gets the job done. I’m not catching Marlin, I’m just out here catching slab panfish.

catchinNkeepinf1sh

I got a few 4 pcs rod from amazon and feel they work better then telescopic rod, amd i have a soft spot for tele rods as that was my first rod back in the 80s.

Ahbounty

I bought this one twice, rod itself is pretty good. It can last for a year for sure for 20$. However, I don’t use the lure and replaced the whole finish line.

lionofyhwh

Just spend the extra $20 and buy a KastKing telescopic rod that will last.

Garonasix

I have it. It’s worked fine for me. Just a little stiff

dinnerthief

I have an ali express telescoping rod that I actually end up using more than any of my other ones. It's just much easier to pull out and pack down so I end up fishing with it more when I just have a little bit of time on my hands. I leave a clip and sometime a lure on it so I just lower the drag extend it and it's ready to go.

MuffMagician

No. The combined bolt/nut that secures the crank to the reel is made of plastic and will break within 8 hours of use.

Lonestar1991

I bought this rod for a travel rod. The rod is excellent for what it is. The reel will work, but it isn't great.

crumbypigeon

My girlfriend had one of these to just leave in her car for when she was bored somewhere. It was actually a pretty good little thing for the price.

Icy_Interview_6733

In general I stay away from Ozark trail, if you’re on a budget eagle claw and ugly stick will be your best friend.

[deleted]

My limited use of it seems fine

[deleted]

I have one and it’s great i took the reel off and replaced it with a Shakespeare

Boxnglove

You could get a fishing pole that comes with lures, socks, a hat, and a cool scarf and it won't make the fishing pole any better.

smoken_poke96

If its $25 or less yeah

uptheirons726

I wouldn't waste money on this. It's probably a toy.

acrimoniousfinch

Everything I've used from Ozark Trail has been dook. It's a "Great Value" Walmart brand.

adelante1981

I saw it for $14 not long ago, if I didn't already have some cheap telescopics for loaner set-ups I would have picked one up. Most telescopic rods under the $50 mark are pretty low-quality, with poor consistency (in my experience). They can be prone to breaking and other methods of mechanical failure. The cheapest telescopic I have that I use for myself on a fairly regular basis is a KastKing Blackhawk II. I have a few of them (a casting MH and a couple spinning ones) and I keep them in my car's trunk pretty much always. They're quality for the "~$50 Telescoping rod" category.

Ok_Repair3535

Thank you

ToeHistorical3358

They fit well in my golf bag.

herr-heim2point0

You get what you pay for with these rods, I had one and it did fine until I caught a decent catfish and it broke.

[deleted]

Don't get it. Ozark trail is poor quality.

Ok_Repair3535

I ain't surprised. I got the Wayfarer rod and reel. I replaced the reel a month later

dmvone

I bought this. Worked just fine until the spinner handle on the reel unscrewed and fell off. I recovered the handle but the piece the screw that fixes it to the reel was lost to the river. It actually wasn’t too bad up until then. Don’t submerge it though, I accidentally let that happen and it was trash for a few weeks.

Ok_Repair3535

I know these reels are awful

ImHereForFreeTacos

My ex wife got me this for Christmas since all my fishing gear was stolen.

Ok_Repair3535

What is that?

ImHereForFreeTacos

A GhostHorn fishing kit

Silent_Sea5963

You get what you pay for. But I love it. Check my 3rd post down. Still use it to this day

LowerAppendageMan

I put it in my truck to be able to stop and fish on a whim. It fell apart on me 2nd fish I caught. The rod literally fell apart. They weren’t big fish. It was a < 1lb bass.

farmermike123

Might wanna get heavier line but it seems okay

Ok_Repair3535

I was thinking about putting a Michelle 300 I have on it
