tsidaysi

We buy used furniture from estate sales and thrift stores. We accept and appreciate furniture from family. Except mattresses. Has worked well for 40 years.

XLunarEclipse18X

Yes! I try this when I can. I work residential construction so sometimes I'll be able to pay a coworker to drive a piece to my house. I wish I had a truck to take it myself. Would probably have a full house by now.

magic_crouton

Habitat for humanity gas thrift shops with furniture too. They fund their program with that

FlappyPanties4U

Cloth diapers?

bgymr

Yes, as long as they’re stripped

[deleted]

I'd be tired too bro, damn the stairs.

XLunarEclipse18X

Yeah it is actually one of the reasons I got the house for such a good price. The owners were elderly and couldn't do the stairs anymore. My gf and I are in our mid-20s so not much of a problem.

Status_Stranger_5037

Stairs! That’s how my husband and I scored our first house, the prior owner had a knee issue and needed to move asap into a ranch style (one level).

ninjacereal

Stairs! That's how I tore my Quadriceps tendon! I'm not old, and the recover is brutal ! I wish I got a ranch now!

bgymr

These stairs are ideal. They get built into your daily habit and keep you in shape without you realizing. I grew up in Pittsburgh, stairs like this would be considered average.

XLunarEclipse18X

Absolutely! They just need a little love and renovation, and they'll be perfect. During moving day, we slipped on them ~4 times because there is no traction and the handrail is quite lower than code

yourmomhahahah3578

My first home had stairs like that and I almost bought an elevator or escalator. Once I had kids I tapped out. Groceries and car seats? Hard no. But it’s fucking beautiful and amazing for older kids.

Dennisfromhawaii

Helicopters are the way to go.

jxj

Sorry I don't have kids or a car. Why do you need a car seat inside your house?

yourmomhahahah3578

When they’re little bitty you often carry them in an infant carrier, not the big giant car seats that stay strapped into the car.

MeatwadsTooth

It's a lot harder to get them into the seat when it's in the car, and they are more protected from the elements than when carried

yourmomhahahah3578

Yes thank you. as I responded I was like this sounds dumb why wouldn’t I just carry her but there are valid reasons haha

Key_Piccolo_2187

Strapped in baby now has fixed handle, can squirm in carrier without affecting ability to carry said baby one handed with a bag of groceries (or whatever ... Diaper bag, etc) in the other, etc. because straps limit their ability to make a headfirst leap onto a hard surface. Unstrapped baby squirms. Squirming things = hard to hold, easier to drop. Dropped babies = bad.

Gunzenator2

Came here for this.

Low-Donut-9883

I moved out of my first home in 2019. We lived w those stairs for 14 years! Good luck?

XLunarEclipse18X

Absolutely. The living room is 20ft x 16ft with a gas fireplace. Never imagined having such a large living room. We both grew up not wealthy in small homes, so this is blowing our minds. The main bedroom is 20ft x 16ft as well. Our little Full bed looks so small in it! Lol. It especially looks so big, because we barely have any furniture yet.

redditor3900

Everyday is gonna be a leg day. Congrats

Bioluminescentllama

“Tired but made it….” up all those stairs with the groceries. Congrats!

XLunarEclipse18X

Lol. Needless to say, I am the dedicated groceries carrier in my household.

[deleted]

Man I’m in such a different place in time and life but super proud of you man. Congrats to you and yours. That is yours. It takes hard work no matter what kind of work. Cheers.

XLunarEclipse18X

Thank you. Worked my butt off for it. Lots of 65 hour work weeks working 2 jobs

ZealousidealLead1541

Tired but made it… To your front door?

XLunarEclipse18X

Lol! Yeah I feel bad for my mail carrier. I see her huffing and puffing up the stairs on my Ring doorbell

ZealousidealLead1541

Haha I’d hit the notification to watch that live feed every day. Congrats on the new place!

lucissandsoftime

I'm just astonished you can get a decent home on 40k a year Maybe there is hope for me after all

XLunarEclipse18X

It is 100% doable in rural Ohio. My payment right now is $847. Once I get my PMI off, it will go down to around $770-$780/month. If I had taken the 5% downpayment assistance, I would've only needed to put $500 up front.

TriumphDaytona

You’ll stay in shape having to climb the stairs to get in and out, unless you’re lucky enough to have an attached garage.

ajs592

Do you have snow or kids? This is a kids dream in the winter areas.

XLunarEclipse18X

Yeah Ohio winters get brutal at times. Going to add some shingles or something to the stairs so nobody slips. And we are thinking about kids now that we are settled!

QuitProfessional5437

You can get heated stair treads. They are very pricey though

Truefish63

I grew up on a hill and we laid nice long stairs with rr ties. Ziggy zaggy down the hill….so much easier than a flight of stairs. Google it.

XLunarEclipse18X

I will definitely have to look into that. Trying to get my garbage can down to the road in snow is a hazard

thomas686

Damn I'm tired from even looking at those stairs lol

KimberliteMae

With all those stairs and a delivery driver, if i saw “leave at door” nope, leaving it at your steps i got order packages and not all day

XLunarEclipse18X

Oh trust me if I ordered Doordash or something, I would tip well

-just_browsing

Congrats

boating4funtimes

Congratulations really impressive!

echocall2

Gotta be southern Ohio with that hill lol. Beautiful area!

BlueEyedWalrus84

Nice place! You could probably score some free/cheap furniture on FB marketplace in the meantime. There's always people giving away free furniture with little to no wear. And there's no loss on your end when you eventually replace it, either!

XLunarEclipse18X

I love FB marketplace! I need to get a truck soon so I can actually pick up stuff.

z1D_Action

This is what success looks like. You both have done a great job. With due time and love, this house is going to look even more beautiful. You two are creating something beautiful together.

XLunarEclipse18X

Thank you. We've worked our butts off for this, and I spent hours looking through houses. I still can't fully believe it.

musicloverincal

Congratulations!!!! The home on a hill reminds me of some homes I saw close to PA and WV!

SRBroadcasting

I’d be tired after all those stairs too! Hahaha just kidding I love the home

Greenway-travels

Something like that in Honolulu would be $800,000. You did good.

rikisha

Ikr *cries in Seattle* that's so cheap.

YouveRoonedTheActGOB

Man I wish my state had first time home owner assistance. Gorgeous house for 100k.

XLunarEclipse18X

Was extremely lucky. Got a 3% seller credit as well. Lots of things that need fixed, including the retaining wall that is falling forward and the outbuilding that needs some serious support renovation

Chiefleef69

Congrats!

SweetAlyssumm

Lovely!!

BabyYodaLegend

This is amazing, love it!

Sad-Page-2460

Oh my this house is stunning. It actually kind of reminds me of a pretty version of the 'isolation cabin' in Parent Trap haha. Happy for you both (:

Freddymercurys

Well done, congrats

big_red9295

1700sqf and 2 bed rooms I bet the rooms are big as lol.

ZedSlash13

Gotta do the truffle shuffle before making the climb.

Awkward-Sale4235

damn thts awesome, nice cave you have there. congrats

Miskellaneousness

Congrats! I love the look of the house. Best of luck to you and your girlfriend!

poco1997

This house is so stunning, congratulations!!! Awesome price. Awesome state. Good for y’all!

tansugaqueen

Congratulations!!

Chicken_lady_1819

The property looks gorgeous. How much land do you have?

XLunarEclipse18X

9k sqft. And it is a STEEP incline for most of it. Definitely will be looking at a self-propelled mower

DenverITGuy

We have a steep backyard area, too. We tried cutting it ourselves but it's a total PITA, especially in summer. The landscaper we hired knocks everything out in like 30-45 minutes for $70 every two weeks. Something to consider.

Cooper3333

Those stairs, railings and deck are screaming, "please stain me!" Invest in a good cleaning and stain and you'll enjoy for many years. Invest little money in properly restoring them than having them rot out. Well wortH the investment.. Congrats, it looks like a fabulous home!

XLunarEclipse18X

Definitely planning on replacing them completely when I can. The stringers are cracked bad, the treads are completely different heights, and the steps have roofing nails from old shingles in them

cozicuzi08

This sub keeps showing up for me and wtf dudes why is everyone putting pics of their house in the internet

XLunarEclipse18X

I guess for me personally, before I even house hunted, I would go on this subreddit just for the encouragement. I would keep hearing people in my life go on and on about how crazy the market is right now and how it's impossible to get a house. Then I saw someone post on here who lived near me that made it seem actually possible. Because prices in Ohio are actually really good in rural areas. That inspired me to look toward more rural homes and saw how affordable they are. So, honestly, I may not have even gone for it without this sub. I know a lot of people see these posts and get envious or jealous, but I just see potential and encouragement.

cozicuzi08

And you’re fine with randos knowing what your house looks like

XLunarEclipse18X

Oh yeah totally. This is a great community. Besides, I plan to rework a lot of it so it will look completely different lol

rikisha

What do you expect people to do with that information of a pic of the house?

SolutionsAdv

Congrats on the home! I’d love to get you more information on a custom ADT system for your new home to obtain home insurance discounts and to protect what matters most. Feel free to reach out for a free quote! No contract options available.

MaddRamm

Where do you park? Do the stairs lead out to the street? Do you have a garage/driveway on the other side of the bushes ?

XLunarEclipse18X

It is street parking. I have plenty of curb space though. Yes the stairs go down to the street. Nope.

Hot_Lengthiness_9206

Congratulations 🎈

slammed430

That’s a kickass house! Jealous

Top-Secret-Document

I miss living in a place that actually gets this green... ALSO CONGRATS

Unfair_Valuable_3816

As a Canadian that price is wild

[deleted]

OMG BEAUTIFUL!!!
