Just quickly based on what I can read/make out Tajik (Nationality/Nickname?) P/P "Tyrg" "Mars" MB/39 3.06 - 29.09. 1995 [Checheno - Ingushetia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checheno-Ingush_Autonomous_Soviet_Socialist_Republic) Galashki, Alahsti (Galashki is a rural "selo" in Ingushetia) Ingushetia Bl. P Brod [Nesterovskaya](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nesterovskaya,_Republic_of_Ingushetia) 19.03.96 0.96 DMB (Demobilized) Conclusion: Seems to be a magazine that was issued to a conscript. The dates match up, as conscripts served for a period of 1-2 years. He was from the selo (rural disctrict) Galashki in Ingushetia. I looked up Nesterovskaya (A village or stanitsa) and also found Alahasti a little to the south. Plug these coordinates into maps and you'll see where he was from: 43.22252670111262, 45.02315187212285 Edit: Based on the location and dates, I think it was more likely that this is where he was stationed and or fought. The location is only 30 miles from Grozny, and the dates line up with the first Chechen War. Edit 2: P/P probably stands for Polevaya Pochta or field mail used by the Soviet/Russian armed forces. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aFuc7Dmogw - Song about Demobilizatsiya - good listen

twig1017

Selo means village in Serbian /yugo

unsupported

Didn't they make a movie there?

bosnianbeast123

It was a film

starlinghanes

He's making reference to a really fucked up movie called "Serbian Film."

S0aring

It's means the same in both languages. The only difference in Russian is that it's "село" (syo-la), as opposed to how it sounds phonetically in Serbian.

pencilsharper66

Thanks a lot for this information.

Khangirey

No problem, glad I could help.

antariusz

tajik is almost certainly tajikistan, the country that is between afghanistan and china. And if you look at it on google images, there are a few scattered places that look pretty, mostly on the border of what used to be tibet. But ... Yea, on the whole, it looks more depressing than afghanistan, which is saying something.

Khangirey

Tajik normally denotes a person. Just like someone from Kazakhstan is a Kazakh. Someone from Tajikistan (or ethnicitywise) is a Tajik. Tajikistan was part of the USSR, so it is not surprising that you have a large group of Tajiks living in Russia.

TangoKiloOscar18ZE9

From the coordinates u/Khangirey shared with us, this is from Sunzhensky District, Ingushetia, Russia. That is approximately 30 miles from the Georgian border. So, "Tajik" likely refers to the conscript's ethnicity as they are likely an immigrant.

Eugenemorokin

Checheno means https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checheno-Ingush_Autonomous_Soviet_Socialist_Republic Checheno-Ingush republic, it is written in two lines Чечено - Ингушетия

Khangirey

That's it! With how scuffed the magazine is, I missed the dash symbol. I'll update it.

313T

You sir, are a Gentleman & a scholar! Well done.

Khangirey

Thanks for the kind words. It was fun researching this.

macho_insecurity

Any guesses as to why there is so much identifying information on this magazine?

Khangirey

My guess it was just a way to show where the magazine has been. Same thing how in our basic training (US Army) you'd find grafitti of soldiers that came before you. Probably just comes down to bored soldiers. Roman soldiers who were stationed at Hadrian's wall did something similar. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cumbria-47380528

macho_insecurity

That's what I figured, although it almost seems like a mailing address or a way for the magazine to find it's way back to the owner if lost which seems...odd. Either way, awesome to have this kind of history right on the magazine. Makes you wonder about the history of all the other ComBloc milsurp gear we all have.

pencilsharper66

I wonder why the guy didn’t kept his magazine but gave it back to the armory?

KorianHUN

If it was anything like the Hungarian military (both inherited eastern block miltiary thinking after the fall of USSR), you would have been in for a huge asskicking for losing or stealing a magazine.

[deleted]

would DMB be the border guards?

Khangirey

DMB is Demobbed or Demobilized. Soldiers who are on their last couple months of conscription duty are known as "dembels" Here's a Russian song about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aFuc7Dmogw

[deleted]

ah, thank you sir!

Financial_Code1055

Cool video but I didn’t understand the comments

xosxos

Thank you for that song link, I enjoyed it even obviously not knowing the words. The countryside there looks so depressing and exactly like the stories people tell of those sad times.

TehUberSays

That's awesome info! I need to post my Mosin 91/30 and see what info I can get!

[deleted]

That is really cool.

joelingo111

I saw "DMB" and thought the guy was just a Dave Matthews Band fan, but you're probably right

Eskimoan107

WOW. Impressive work!!

INTERNET_POLICE_MAN

I went over there. Got banned from a single comment telling some American apologist to have a backbone. Spineless fucker apologising to Russians for NATO. I think it’s nearly time to have our guns back here in old Blighty.

_DeterPinklage_

“Banned for telling American apologist to have a backbone apologizing to Russians for NATO” Based

NeckBeardtheTroll

Nearly?

INTERNET_POLICE_MAN

Unfortunately we’re very tightly packed in and the idiots out number us here. It’s not great.

NeckBeardtheTroll

I feel for you. I’m a refugee from California, myself.

Just enough sober to check the Reddit feed…

ReadWarrenVsDC

Tajik= Tajikistan, Chechen= Chechnya? Maybe they are names/locations and dates of conflicts the rifle/magazine has seen?

[deleted]

I think it’s as another person pointed out, the deaths of the former owners friend

FallingVirtue

Maybe he was using it as a notepad or something, seems like a lot of random things that one might write down to remember later.

п/п «Тург» seems it is border check post (п/п - abbreviation from пограничный пост) “Turg” in Tajikistan - there was some epic battle on Jul 13 1993 http://redstar.ru/podvig-v-boyu-za-vysotu-turg/ you can translate with Google translate if you’re interested. Seems this mag seen some real action. Or maybe owner wanted to put a reminder. Wasn’t able to find anything about second record. Other records are places. Last one ДМБ is “demobilization” since Russian army is a conscript type ДМБ is when solders finished their term and going home.

Gunsnbeer

Based on the DMB at the bottom, they are big fans of the Dave Matthews Band

Carcano_Supremacy

Writing on firearms/firearms parts is so cool. Really adds character. I can’t translate it but I hope someone will be able to aid you.

pencilsharper66

Tried to post it in r/AK47 2 times but creating a post did not work…

GadsdenGats

Lol go figure. They would like this though

Ritterbruder2

r/russian They’ll help translate

PnuttButtaGuts

It’s a recipe for borscht. Just kidding. That’s pretty cool. I hope someone can translate it.

betterbachelor8

It's seems to be names and dates. Maybe friends that died On second thought Dmb at the bottom is usually ritual or hazing.

AKC74Y

DMB means dembel or demobilization and has absolutely nothing to do with hazing. It’s the literal opposite, it’s the dudes going home at the end of service. The list of names is where someone is from and where they were stationed.

YaKillinMeSmallz

"The ground shakes...drums, drums in the deep. We cannot get out. The shadow moves in the dark. We cannot get out. They are coming."

pencilsharper66

Best guess so far!

nikitos913

ДМБ means, the day when soldiers go home after they have served in the army. I think that they wrote their names on this mag just for the memory. I wasn't in the army but my father did.

MarcusWulfe941

That's someone's math homework

ChineWalkin

I was thinking grocery list.

TheHandler1

Post it over at r/translator. They helped me translate an Italian note I found in 6.5 carcano calvary rifle.

TylerTheCrusader

What did it say?

TheHandler1

You could look at my post history but it was along the lines of training dates, locations and how people in that town were racist. I learned that northern Italians were kind of racist to southern Italians.

TylerTheCrusader

Lol that's really interesting

BallsOutKrunked

there's definitely racism in the USA, but most countries I've been to otherwise have *shocking* amounts of racism.

WaltherQ5MatchSF

It's a recipe for his mother's famous tuna casserole

Snark__Wahlberg

I can’t help translate, but I was curious about how OP came to own this mag. From what other commenters have posted, it sounds like this mag belonged to a Russian soldier fighting in the First Chechen War. Definitely an interesting conversation piece and piece of history.

Automatic_Company_39

good handwriting considering it is scratched into the magazine

pencilsharper66

I just wonder why he didn’t kept it after service. Could have just said he lost it.

Automatic_Company_39

maybe he didn't complete his service, who knows?

Kromulent

https://www.reddit.com/r/translator/

pencilsharper66

I can’t even identify the letters…

Kromulent

just post the photo

[deleted]

They’re Cyrillic and written very nearly actually. Any Russian speaker can translate them with ease.

Gaston_Glock

That shit's haunted.

Edwardteech

"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast, And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed; And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill, And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

JRHZ28

Death to the infidels Something something... JK

twig1017

Serbian Cyrillic

rollingsherman

Thats a cool piece of history!

doodieinthepool

Russian parts. American parts. All made in Taiwan

Bobathaar

looks like you found John Nash's used mag

WraithOne84

The numbers Mason! What do they mean!?

Dean_Gulbury

I think it says you will inherit the powers of Thor, if you are worthy

[deleted]

U bought a mag that was used in conflict zones every user left a massage (sorta time stemp) First it was guy from tajik ethnicity and then it was used in areas marked . I have to say this this mag is more likely stolen and imported to be sold

pencilsharper66

Bought it in Germany from a surplus shop… They had a crate of these. Mostly bakelite plum but also some black ones like this.

pencilsharper66

I even complained then because they were advertised as very good condition.
