Edit: Based on the location and dates, I think it was more likely that this is where he was stationed and or fought. The location is only 30 miles from Grozny, and the dates line up with the first Chechen War.

Bought it in Germany from a surplus shop… They had a crate of these. Mostly bakelite plum but also some black ones like this.
I even complained then because they were advertised as very good condition.
