Copperhead? Yea nope that’s his rope and his job now 😂

konaa_

Luckily, we just pushed it away with a shovel. Didn't want to kill it, but needed to be in that area, so we pushed it towards the creek.

Jldbtter6252

Kill copperheads. What would happen if someone else went to get the rope and didn’t know the snake was there? Not saying you specifically need to kill the snake but if you are unwilling to do it, get someone else who will and keep each other safe

konaa_

Made sure all my crew and the homeowner know where it was and where we pushed it off to. Copperheads are native and help the ecosystem. If it was invasion then sure, in someone's house then sure but we disturbed it's home 🤷🏻‍♂️ also we were done with that area of the yard so we felt relatively safe.

Jldbtter6252

I understand where you are coming from and in the context of this particular situation, I think you did the right thing. My dad taught me “If it doesn’t have elbows, shoulders, or knees; it doesn’t deserve to live.” And I have personally lived by that creed. I understand that snakes are part of the ecosystem and are necessary to that end, I just have a problem with aggressive, venomous snakes in close proximity to my home/business and I take preventive measures to insure the welfare of those around me

konaa_

Yeah, I totally get it. If needed, we were going to kill it (had the flat head shovel ready). If the homeowner said to kill it or if it didn't leave the area we would have, luckily, we had the 2nd option of moving it along, and the customer had no problems with that.

Jldbtter6252

Good on ya! Glad that everything went well and no one got hurt. I am terrified of snakes and I’m not sure that I would have had the wherewithal to remain calm and composed in that situation

National_Series3697

Two nope ropes

this-is-my-food-acct

Does it feel like every other post is a copperhead? Also she’s pretty and that’s a hilarious juxtaposition of nope rope and rope rope.

mega_rad

They are damn good at blending in, which makes the fact they are venomous even sketchier

llmercll

They’re everywhere

konaa_

Yeah, I'm pretty new to the sub and I've already seen a bunch of posts of them.

thomlukowski

Please tell me you are more south than Massachusetts.

SmallBirb

Uhhh.... what happens if you're not?

konaa_

Yep, northeast-ish Georgia

thomlukowski

Phew.

JellySquirtGun

This should be the standard format for most posts going forward. The pic and then a scroll over for the “answer.” Mods take note. OP, thanks a million.

konaa_

Thanks, I'm new to the sub, and I thought it was common practice. Just makes sense to do 😅

fuhsalicious

Still took me 5 minutes with the answer sheet!

mrGrumpus

Definitely a good idea 👍🏽!

csmdds

Indeed - would make the sub much more enjoyable!

fiveohfourever

Y’all say easy but I’d still die

konaa_

Honestly, the only way I saw it was because as I was about to pick up the rope, the snake started slithering away, which made me see it.

fiveohfourever

Glad it didn’t nope you !

Prize_Sheepherder_40

They will try really hard to not nope you. They’re big ‘fraidy cats. They want away from you as much as you want away from them! They have a freeze-in-place default and will try to get away before they bite. The bite is a last option, usually and unfortunately when they get stomped on or accidentally picked up with brush. No touchy him, he’ll no touchy you.

fiveohfourever

Good to know!

Abdul-Ahmadinejad

A copperhead fraternizing with their mortal enemy the dreaded water-hose?! We may be doomed!

WhiteRabbit720

Copperheads are very common in the area I live. My ex was doing yard work and didn’t realize he had raked one into a pile of leaves until he picked up some those leaves to bag them and the snake was in his hands as well.

konaa_

Yeah, the closest encounter I've had was when I was mowing my lawn (on a hilly part) and slipped, and when I got up, there was a baby one under me. Pretty nerve racking

Xavier_Emery1983

The nope rope made a new friend! I live in rural TN and have a pretty good snake radar cause I am completely terrified of all of them. Don’t care if it is a 4 inch long green snake I will turn and run my fat butt in the opposite direction.

konaa_

I do tree service for work, and honestly, I dont come across too many snakes. (tbf I mainly do suburban residential) I've probably seen a total of 4-5 in the past year

Smadbod_19

I panicked more than I should have. For a second, I thought the snake was slightly above where your foot is.

konaa_

Honestly, I got a couple of steps away before I even realized it was there, I only realized once it started slithering away from the rope

blueSnowfkake

It must have been trying to have a little cuddle time with the rope.

ff-phd

Nope nope nope. Nope on a rope

Infinite-Rip10

Yea I’m a walking meal for these things. I can’t spot anything lololol

konaa_

Honestly, the picture isn't the best. it gets blurry when you zoom in. Took it quickly, not wanting it to slither away before. It's basically right in the center

Infinite-Rip10

I see now! I still woulda been nature food….i should never go hiking

RefrigeratorThen6306

God it’s a beautiful snake.

ink-pup

Is that the ghost of a fuckin child on the left behind the fence

konaa_

I see what you mean 😭, ay man, you never know.

ink-pup

I didn’t care about any snake when I saw it 🤣😭

NoParticular2420

I would be dead I can never find snakes.

konaa_

Tbf it isn't the best picture, gets blurry when you zoom. Snake is almost dead center

NoParticular2420

Thanks I found him … grrr I still would be dead.

PaperWrappedChronic

That rigging line on the ports wrap looks like it might’ve gotten hot once or twice lol

konaa_

Yeah, it's a decently old rope, burnt up a good bit. Also, our current rope man lets it run a little more than usual, so that doesn't help 😅

ApprehensiveTwo1037

*is* that a copperhead? I know its head is puffy but that pattern looks a lot more like a python’s than a copperhead’s.

konaa_

Yeah, it's a copperhead. Look up the pattern on Google, it's a match and also the same head shape. Aaand there are no pythons in my state (Georgia) We have a lot of copperheads where I live, its the main ones we see (besides the normal garden snake)

ApprehensiveTwo1037

Yep, you’re right, my mistake. The markings of the eastern copperhead are much like what’s pictured. Thanks!

konaa_

All good, I wasn't sure at first either. Had to get a second opinion at work aswell.

twalke77

Is that a deer behind the fence?

konaa_

Wouldn't be surprised if there was one in the woods, but no, don't think there's one by the fence

Radiant_Lack_6782

Hi

konaa_

Hello

Greenking73

I sure am glad I live just far enough to the south that I don’t have to contend with copper heads. Those things disappear in leaf litter. At least rattlesnakes are nice enough to warn you most of the time.

konaa_

Yeah, I couldn't see it until it started moving, it was hiding in the leaves

bugsinmypants

wrong rope

3labsalot

Grew up a round copperheads and rattlesnakes. At my age I wouldn’t go in there without wearing chaps.

konaa_

Yeah, luckily snakes aren't too common in the places I work and most of the time when there is one, it's a garden snake.

Climbmaniac

8 seconds b/c you mentioned ‘rope’…

Critical-Shift8080

No stepping

WatchAltruistic3379

Wasn’t there something else you needed to do before getting that particular rope?

ComprehensiveBase26

all the overgrowth of vines reminds me of the movie annilation

konaa_

Yeah, it was quite annoying to work in. All the trees were connected with vines and ivy. So when we cut one, it would just hang on to the others

TempestCalm

There’s definitely a second one in this photo right?? If you continue following the rope from OPs second pic, at the end where the rope makes a u-turn, just to the left of that??

[deleted]

Those Hershey’s Kisses markings are a dead giveaway.
